"Sure im not regal, sure I'm not rich, but when I cook chicken, it's never dry bitch" xD best line
I FELT THAT my chicken is 🤌
Bowen nailed that delivery 🤣
I dream of being able to say this!
LITERALLY. went back and watched it for that specifically
Bowen often only has few lines in a sketch, but he has the line and delivery that I re-watch for.
When the writers worked on this, I don't think they realized the amount of overwhelmed, overworked, anxiety-ridden people they were going to inspire.
They probably did, because the writers do feel like that a lot.
The fact that she is so proud that her son has a friend literally made me cry happy tears
*I* know that feeling!
I almost did too. So sweet.
That was a great line to end on!
Yeah thats a real win, my mom can't even say that.
@@mutant9156 let's be friends.
did anyone else find this not only hilarious, but also comfortably relatable?
You can't have steak EVERY night! C'mon!
Nope.
Basically, the opposite of what you said.
Was literally ticking off things as they came up like "yep, me too"
Indubitably
"I use to smoke but then I stop" That is a huge accomplishment that should be celebrated and is a special feat.
Compared to everything else they listed, it is actually huge
I almost cried, this song is so comforting in today's toxic atmosphere of overachieving and success
I was just about to say this!!!
I wanna send this comment to your great great grandparents LOL
I almost cried too. But not for the same reason.
Said without a shred of irony. Americans really are a laughable people
Today?? Mary Shelly wrote Frankenstein when she was a teenager!!! I’ll never be that cool 🥲
"I finished an entire Chapstick without losing it." The struggle is real. 🤣
I screamed at this line
@blueskies
And the struggle continues
Has anyone actually ever done this? even with a Carmex tub? LOL, if so - COLOR ME IMPRESSED!
That's why I struggle to buy the 'spensive stuff.
Somewhere there is a heaven for all the partially used misplaced chapsticks and that damn single sock that your dryer likes to eat!
always love it when the cast get to be the nerdy theater kids they are
They even had a sketch that was theater geek
love that
Bowen's character from the Tenant Meeting skit might not have gotten much participation in the building talent show, but he's truly in his element here! 😉
Or at least Bowen, Cecily, and Kate, because they probably were the nerdy theater kids.
I don't like that.
And the kind of people who make a big fuss over being in community theater are really a bottomless well of inspiration when it comes to things to make fun of. Cecily's "I'm singing a showtune, and this is my Broadway voice" is so spot on. She's like doing an impersonation of a person doing an impersonation of Liza, which can at times feel like an impersonation of her mother. It's great.
Funny as it is, the sketch actually has a really great message. Sometimes I forget that it's okay not to be particularly happy or even okay some days. Most days are probably going to feel a little mediocre. But as long as you still have happy times here and there and feel generally safe and content, you shouldn't put yourself down. No one's expecting extraordinary out of you 100% of the time, so you shouldn't either.
At least that's what I keep trying to tell myself. I'm too harsh on myself a lot of the time, but this sketch made me feel just the teeniest bit better about myself.
Thanks for sharing! My wife works harder than anyone but I think she has unrealistic expectations for herself. She works and I am a stay at home dad. While I do my best, I know it’s frequently not up to her preferred standards, but she really tries to be content with a bit of mess here and there or some unfolded clothes. I constantly have to remind her that it’s okay for her to rest, that even in a messy house everyone is safe, healthy, and happy and all those other little things can wait.
Amen!
My youngest son and his fiancée have matching t-shirts that read "Maybe 'Okay' Will Be Our Always 💜🤵👰💜" For some reason, I love that.
@David Elligot
You fold clothes? ☺
@@cloudwatcher608 Haha, your wife sounds a lot like my mother. She also works too hard and worries a bit too much.
"Before enlightenment....Chop wood, carry water.
After enlightenment.....Chop wood, carry water."
Zen saying.
Even the zen masters of 1000 years ago would agree with you. Just living well is amazing.
“I see some beautiful waters and breads in the crowd” 😂😂😂
Ive been feeling like shit lately and the “i used so smoke and now i dont!” Made me almost cry. Like hey, yeah, i do accomplish things!
Jake’s character calling off work to go to the movies and lie to his family about it is kind of a mood lmao
I have been dreaming of doing this for so many years!!
not gonna lie, I've done it. went to the mall and the movies and it was awesome!
@@jbuggie4086 sounds amazing
I've done it before, will probably do it again. Good to just be with your thoughts sometimes.
To be fair, Bowen’s character being able to consistently cook chicken that isn’t dry is more impressive than Olympic gold any day…
Especially if it's chicken breast.
Bake for 25 minutes at 425 degrees. You're welcome
Rogers lying there's more too it than that. Always pat it dry and then oil it up before u season it, and covering for half the time will get u there regardless of time n temp which will vary depending on size.
@@sarahoshea9603 Lying? Them are fighting words, from a fighting Irishman no less lol
"Some people are faster, some people are hotter, but I put lemon in my water."
I want that for my epitaph.
I think this was my favorite line.
my gold is here, where Cecily Strong yells poetically (4:18 - 4:23) -> "Sure I don't write poems that transcend, but I have a son and he has a friend!" = b r i l l i a n t writing.
And raising a child who is able to form friendships is a legitimate achievement.
“And when I cook chicken it’s never dry bitch” PERIOD.
Jake committed one million percent to every sketch and he was excellent. God bless that beautiful, silly man.
"My email inbox has ZERO emails!"
And he thinks he's not a winner? He thinks he's not a GOD??!?!?
Seriously, that one shook me.
🔥👏🏾🥰👏🏿🥰👏🏻🥰🔥👏🏾🥰👏🏿🤭👏🏻🥰🥺👏🏻🥰🥺👏🏾🤭🔥🥰🔥🥰🔥
Looks down at the number 4,772 in the red badge on my email icon… Zero? Really? Dayum.
These are realistic accompaniments that aren’t celebrated but should be-and sounds like my life these days!
What about the thing where he pumps into a woman…guess it fits
Especially the Chapstick. I usually leave mine in a pocket and run it through the washer and dryer. 😋
💪🏾
Why celebrate mediocrity the whole point of the song is for things to be “enough” not “extraordinary” … I personally don’t think there’s brownie points given out for just doing things that are generally expected and normal. Some days simple things may FEEL like huge accomplishments but they still really aren’t.
@@xxslendermomxx3026 Come back when you've learned humor.
“but i have a son and he has a friend” that killed me lmaooo
2:27 that echo in WOW is perfect. I know the echo is for the singing but boy does it make that WOW amazing
Wholesome. Not every sketch has to be over the top. 👍🏻
No its the exact opposite. Over the top and not funny.
Yes I don't think it has to be hilarious. This sketch makes me smile for its resonance
i like the fact that jake's part is a little more offbeat than other three's source of pride
Dude made a joke about Boston Cream Pies without the Boston on live TV, these writers are madlads.
@@sydposting honestly my jaw dropped there
I watch this one whenever life is a little too hard. Very comforting.
Why was this genuinely uplifting?!
This is actually a great skit. We live in a time where most of us think we should be famous and we overlook the little things that make us special. As a result, we are constantly dissatisfied with ourselves.
I like how each of these things they sing about are genuine accomplishments that take time, or have a deeper meaning than at first glance. Having a good relationship with your grandma into your adulthood to the point where she considers you "classically handsome" is a huge gift! 🥰 I'm really enjoying the compassionate bent of the writing these days, not punching up or down but pulling you in for an awkward hug (that you actually kinda needed that day, now that you think about it), and that's just... nice, you know?
And this is a really nice comment 😊
I agree, this really is a nice comment.
3:23 made my year! "Every night cant be the best night of your life - itd be EXAUSTING! Youd end up in a HOSPITAL!"
"And my email inbox has *ZERO* emails in it." That hit harder than it should have because I just spent 2 hours going through emails just so that my inbox could be 0 😭.
You go!
His perm is ALMOST too much. This was magical. People in the middle, Chapstick, zero emails in your inbox, Eric Neis,Tupperware, chicken, shower, grow up, get lost, you can watch whatever you want,
All of that and the pianist was amazing as well!
I hope the folks at SNL read these comments. This was a deeply healing sketch/song - especially during this time of deep pain in our county and out world. I immediately sent it to my brother and he suggested we memorize it. I’ll be listening and sharing a few more times. ❤️ and, yes, each actor in the sketch was perfect!
May all your chicken come out moist; but if it doesn't, that's also okay, that's what sauces are for.
that was really wierdly heartwarming and sweet and I loved it
How can Kate play a 60 year old woman and a 10 year old boy with perfect ease 😩
It's called acting???
@@peace4myheart I think it was rhetorical.
Because she is the Goddess we preyed for..
Talent and makeup/wardrobe
WHen she goes turtle and pulls down her head, it helps her face look more wrinkled and doublechinned, but also, women mostly look like a younger person if you think they are boys. Still, can't claim I could look that age-diverse myself.
Kate and Cecily the dynamic duo never disappoint, Bowen Yang killing it as he always does for me. Throw in Jake with his surprising strong singing voice.
Turned into a Magical and delightful quartet
Ha I should have scrolled down to this before I posted my comment. I'll go delete now.
Bowen sounds like George Takai, Startrek
Gyllenhaal is actually a terrific singer-he portrayed Seymour in ‘Little Shop’ opposite OG Audrey (Ellen Greene) as well as the titular character in Sondheim’s ‘Sunday in the Park with George’, which received a cast recording.
Kate's delivery on "Some people are faster. Some people are hotter but I put lemon in my water!" made me lose it. LMAO 😂
Kate's face after Bowen's "when I cook chicken, it's never dry, bitch" line, lmao (4:12)
This entire song felt like an aggressive personal attack but I’m here for it
Oh no is this the Taylor Swift song
Really, I love the show but Who writes the jokes, suck this season
this one hit too close to home, lol.
Personal defense 😂
More like passive aggressive.
Being content is just as important as being happy. This was funny but also a great message.
This really sounds like affirmations they teach you when you’re going through depression lol celebrate the little things - I made my bed everyday this month - very relatable
This skit just warmed its way into my SNL top 10 of all time. It's not the best, but it's sweet and thoughtful and that's enough for me.
You mean, “and that’s my thing for me…”
"Sure I'm not regal, sure I'm not rich. But when I cook a chicken, it's never dry bitch!" Aaaaand that's where I lost it. XD
I’m glad that Cecily’s character has a son that has a friend.
This is actually a song about what I am legitimately proud of in life. Like 80% of that song, I'm "yes" - getting through a whole chapstick without losing it - that, though, that's next level - I'll put that on my bucket list. A girl can dream.
Everyone should call in sick and sneak off to a movie alone at least once in their lives. It's surprisingly fulfilling!
Lmao Bowen got me at “When I cook chicken, it’s never dry bitch” 😂
2:57 Jake Gyllenhaal's part made me laugh so hard I almost peed. I don't know why it hit so hard! 🤣
Cause you just did it yesterday! And I did it a month ago! LOL
“I DONT KNOW WHY BUT I NEVER GOT COVID.” 😂 me too.
That's what I thought, before I got Covid a couple months ago. lol...Still made me laugh.
@@JanaCarrey I got it a couple months ago as well!🥲
I need more of this kind of energy in my life
I actually found that really nice and comforting
That song was actually kinda encouraging☺
I wanna laugh at Cecily's hair but it just goes with that character so well. She still looks gorgeous and like we have been transported 30 years in the past. 🐢🐢🐢Cara
Jake stumbling over the line about tin and tomatoes really sold his frustration about it. Honestly I think it helped the joke land. 😄
He stumbled and then decided to use it to make his delivery funnier.
@@BbGun-lw5vi his method acting might suck but his improvising is obviously top tier.
@@javonacw lol Yup!
@@javonacw 😋 I skipped the monologue, but glad I went back and watched it before this segment and this comment. 😊
@@BbGun-lw5vi he obviously should have gotten an Oscar for Nightcrawler tho
i totally do the call-in-to-work-and-go-to-a-movie-and-pretend-i-went-to-work-once-a-year thing lol
This song is just so amazing and heartwarming. The delivery of "Sure I don't write poems that transcend, but I have a son and he has a friend" gave me goosebumps. Like yes, indeed! It's a blessing x2. SNL: Bravo!
I feel like this sketch was the antidote to the What Have I Become sketch. This was funny but genuinely wholesome and uplifting. Kudos to the writers.
This was like… triumphant?? I loved it tbh
This is what a Pentatonix show will be like 20 years from now.
Haha I can't wait
this song will never top the billboard hot 100 but it will always top my spotify playlist, 🎶AND THAT'S ENOUGH FOR MEEEEEE🎶
Very fitting in these times. Hang in there average friends!
I will be sending this to my therapist because this is me
yep
Wow. What a segment! Celebrating realistic, adult small achievements in the West just isn't ever done, but it should be! Again, I love the philosophical underpinnings of this comedic segment. So mature and wise!
“some people are faster, some people are hotter, but I PUT LEMON IN MY WAAATER!” (this kicks on in the ol’ brain jukebox any time I happen to put lemon in my water)
When I cook chicken it's never dry B@$%🤣
Cecily is giving strong Blanche Devoreaux vibes in that wig.
You’re right!
This really one of my favorite skits because of how reassuring and surprisingly heartwarming it is.
"sure I'm not regal, sure I'm not rich, but when I cook chicken it's never dry bitch" I'm fucking dead 🤣 so perfect
"Group Therapy- The Musical..!"
the regality with which Kate said ‘I put lemon in my water’ is in itself an INSPIRATION
I heart this skit! I still enjoy SNL despite all the criticism they receive.
That's all that matters! You shouldn't care what anyone else thinks. 😄
@@camslam8245 Why does acknowledging that others criticize SNL mean to you that I care their opinion? I don't always think that only my opinion matters; I like to acknowledge that there varying opinions when it comes topics.
@@weston.weston lol
THIS IS THE FIRST GOOD SKETCH SINCE CHEBBY CHASE LEFT!
I feel like the cast, the writing, the vibe- everything is on point this season!
This needs to be on Spotify and get 70 million plays.
THSI SONG WAS MADE FORE MEEEEEE😭
It has to be me, because I am seeing this as low key one of SNL's top music skits.
hmm i found it lame and annoying
Oh Cecily. You're Amazing
This was ALSO REALLY WELL WRITTEN
I am ALL ABOUT finishing a tube of Chapstick without losing it or dropping it on the carpet where it gets coated in lint and hair! I feel great joy when I can achieve this! Now i know it also makes me a good dad. Thanks, Jake!
HE CAN WATCH WHATEVER HE WANTS!
I fucking feel this. not as a joke. I seriously feel this. Applause
Feel like I just left a good therapy session
I've been somewhat bored by these cabaret/revue sketches in recent years, but this was the best in a while. Everyone was working together, good vocals and timing, some funny lyrics too. Jake was a great asset to Bowen/Cecily/Kate.
I agree. I liked this a lot. Sometimes they aren’t funny
Have you watched the SNL Angelo one? HILARIOUS as well!
It's not about enjoying the little things, it's about realizing that those little things are really the biggest things of all 😀
And I smoked for over a decade and managed to quit so that's a huge thing for me too lol
I need another one of these cabaret night songs in the future
“When I cook Chicken, it’s never dry bitch” - A poet
Wow. Finally music that speaks to me!
This song is for all of us 😂
Kate breaking at Bowen's MY CHICKEN AINT DRY BITCH is great.
It's a skit but it's also incredibly reassuring and motivating 😂
Awe, I know I’m strange and it is midnight but that kinda made me sadly happy😕
*What a great song though, I genuinely enjoyed it! And Jake has a SUPER voice!*
that song sounds like adult version sesame street episode lol
You guys literally made my day …. Thank u so much ….. it truly is fine to be boring and average …..
Best skit of the night! Loved every line 🤣🤣
Cecily really nailed the awful, "I'm singing a showtune, so I'm going to sing like Liza" voice. Doing an impersonation of a person doing an impersonation of Liza is pretty great. I also love how spot on the "I'm middle aged and do community theater" hairstyles were. I think they need to make fun of middlingly talented theater people more often.
😂😂😂 don't encourage them 😜
That’s terrrrifficcc!
This reunion was a resounding success! I'm at work, eating a PB&J, and watching youtube while getting paid, and this will be the highlight of my day! Yay!
You could literally type these lyrics out and it would be a genuinely poignant poem
The taking time off work to go to the movies part 😂😂
Some of us are just walkin' around 😂
That was the Ted Lasso equivalent of songs! Loved it!
I love these heartwarming comments.
Valerie! I was thinking the same exact thing. My intuition said, read the comments and I'm so glad I did. So heartwarming and sweet and feel good. Brings me hope.
Oh my God, this was a whirlwind of emotion and joy and gratitude for what you love.
deeply amazing and deeply comforting. thank you snl
