Genuinely the only cartoon my dad was excited to watch with me. He loved the comedy of muscle man to the point where he filmed on his phone the roller skating episode to show his co workers. I love this show and has irreparably ruined my sense of humor.

I think running this show in 1 shot was a horrific idea. My favorite thing about regular show is how well all the humor ages. When you plow through each joke in a few days, you dont get to appreciate it.
As something I watched over a couple of weeks, yeah I agree. Generally agree with his opinions, season 8 is by far the worst for me but it's a formulaic show where a lot of the appeal for me is the line delivery and the unique vibe that it has. I just don't think I've ever seen something that feels so laid back and "hanging out with the guys" while at the same time also being the complete opposite of that. That formula is something that admittedly does start to get a little tiring by the end, but I also kind of like how it's something that's just a part of the universe and is mainly played pretty straight. It's definitely something that watching in the span of a couple days might exhaust you of its gimmicks, but you know I'd argue that most episodic shows are like that.

I think this rank would have probably been a lot different if he gave himself around a few weeks to do it, probably more positive, less suffering, and a lot more apreciation for the show, as when he does it all in one go, it just feels horrible.

I really respect this show's commitment to their lore even when it's ridiculous. The fact that events like mordecai and rigby being the world record holders for broken bonez and benson having a really detailed history are referenced again is so funny
i love how you can tell how tired he was getting by season 6 to the point where hes completely misunderstanding the plots of several episiodes

Fun Fact: Gary's Synthesizer and California King, both being parodies of David Bowie, aired after Bowie's death. My theory is that those two episodes weren't supposed to be back to back, but the season was rearranged to honor Bowie.
I understand it’s a long video, but I really wish you’d cover some of the more important parts of the episodes, especially ones where they develop characters and show actual emotion. The one that comes to mind is S3 ep: 27, the busted cart episode. Bensons rant near the end where he lectures Mordecai and rigby about responsibility is so good and adds so much depth. Overall great video, just wish some parts were elaborated more or talked about.

I never realized how much of this show I've retained over the years. I remember basically every plot-line from the first few seasons despite this show coming out when I was in 3rd grade and being banned from watching it because it was "mature". It's weird that this show is nostalgic for me because it doesn't feel that old. It's held up pretty well.

Out of my various issues with Regular Show’s final season, my biggest is the fact that they never even take a single moment to address how Skips didn’t know about Pops’s true origins. With how musical Skips is, and how he’s good friends with basically all of the space deities, it makes basically no sense that he wouldn’t be aware of what Pops was. I’m not even asking for a lot, just an acknowledgment with Skips shrugging and going “How am I supposed to know literally everything?!”

I'm gonna be completely honest and maybe it's not something you'd wanna hear but I did feel like the way you approached making this video did impact the quality for me. Just felt a bit more rushed and phoned in at points which I couldn't really ignore.
Please do take that as a learning curve to never go nearly that hard on one of these again. Even ignoring the obvious ramifications on your health and sanity, I think it impacts your experiences viewing the show a lot as well which can hurt the integrity of the critiques... which ik might be taking it a bit seriously but I genuinely do like to hear your thoughts but I don't want it to feel forced, I respect the hell outta you for making this and respect that these can take an absurdly long time to make so I feel like people shouldn't complain if you find a less frequent upload schedule for this or whatever suits you better, I think it'd improve the video quality and your general enjoyment making these a lot.

I find it funny how Mark ended up disliking alot of the episodes that the fanbase loves (Baby Ducks, most of the space episodes, etc.), and ended up liking alot of the episodes that the fanbase hates (Wall Buddy, Do Me A Solid, alot of the Mordecai x Margaret/CJ episodes). As someone who has loved this show for years, it was really cool seeing this seires from the perspective of someone experiencing (most of it) for the first time. Even if I ended up disagreeing with alot of Mark's takes, lol.
Yeah I think the target demographic for this one was a little off for him since it’s a lot of dude-bro humor lol. It’s interesting to see the show through the perspective of someone who isn’t as familiar with that era of comedy. I am up to season 4 and I can’t really tell if he likes the show or not, might just be a Mark thing though lol.

Personally, I thought Mark would HATE Unicorns Have Gotta Go. Pretty sure a lot of RS fans dislike that episode. The "Lay it down" line is kinda funny though. guess Regular Show is one of the rare cases where even the worst episode in a season is just whatever.

i never understood why there’s a sentiment that the later seasons are bad. although i feel the middle seasons are the peak of the show, i found enjoyment the whole way through, and love the ending so much

All incredible shows, and coincidentally my 3 favorite cartoons. the cartoon network subreddit unfortunately never shares this opinion as it's full of angry boomers who won't dare to even glance at anything made past 2005 and insist that all 3 shows suck even though they've never seen them

For me, I agreed with Mark's takes on this series when I first seen it. However, as I got older, the show became weirdly relatable even with how out there it gets. It's not for everyone, but this show will always have a special place in my heart.
I like how most regular show retrospectives say that Rigby slowly becomes the better friend over Mordecai and LS Mark watches the entire series back-to-back and points out that Rigby is a crappy friend throughout the vast majority of the series
The contrast with the Finale episode being number one while also being a part of the Weakest season of the Regular Show is rather impressive.
The weakest season of regular show is still one of the best seasons of Cartoon Network shows

I wish they did more with Thomas, him joing the team could've been a way to indicate M+R's bond with the rest of the crew. They were no longer the new guys. They could've put them in a memtor role of sorts like how the rest do the gang had been for them in previous episodes
1:30:16 I respect that. But I think it was an intentional decision from the writers to make Mordecai and Margaret's relationship very basic. The main reason why it hit so hard for me is because Mordecai clearly doesn't know what he wants to do with his life at this point in the series. I feel like the reason why the show made Margaret a bird in the first place is to point out Mordecai's flaw since he was only seeing Margaret for who she is on the outside instead of who she is on the inside. I feel like Mordecai only liked Margret for the fact that she was nice to him and because she is the same animal as him which is why he finds her attractive, but besides that she's very bland and Mordecai doesn't have a lot in common with her. I think the writers are self aware of this too because Margaret dates like 10 different dudes over the course of the series. Mordecai learns from this by the end of the series by dating people like CJ and that bat he ends up marrying, two people who in my opinion Mordecai vibes with way more from a personality standpoint. (Obviously we don't get to learn about the bat character but Id imagine they get along very well because they both have a passion for art)
In the art book for Margaret’s section it’s stated that Mordecai has never really dated or had a serious relationship so he’s at a point where he’s just trying to get a girl to notice him. This definitely checks out with Mordecai’s arc, and how it’s supposed to show going through the experimentation and messiness of dating in your twenties and how you’re probably not gonna meet your soulmate within the first couple partners you have.
I don’t really agree with fans I guess villainizing Margaret for not noticing Mordecai/dating other guys in the meantime like it’s not really her fault he couldn’t make a move plus he’s obvs not entitled to have her

Gary's Synthesizer have one of the best best symphony I ever see
I think looking at Rigby from the angle that he may very well have a learning disability really helps with putting his actions in the larger part of the show into better perspective. As someone who lives with a disability, it kinda hits me in a different way when Rigby shows himself to potentially have something beyond being a troublemaker going on, and it makes me enjoy him a bit better, especially when he goes on his redemption arc.

I've been meaning to watch this series recently as I've heard nothing but good things about it! I've asked friends to give me reminders so that I wouldn't forget later, but what really made me start watching it was seeing you tease this video! Within no time I had finished the first season, and let me say, this show is off to a STRONG start! Really enjoyable so far and am looking forward to seeing more! I think the "solid" that Rigby asked for Mordecai was pretty well explained in abother video, but just to summarize: due to the fact that it looks specially unconfortable to Margaret, it seems like it tried to mimic a weird bird love pairing dance.
Fun fact about the pilots, after "2 am in pm" J.G Quintel made another pencil sketch short called "The Naive Man From Loliland" which aired on Nicktoons around the time the Adventure Time pilot aired on there too. Pops was featured in the short, but I don't think it was intended as a pitch for the network.
The only time Adventure Time is ever considered a Nicktoon. Plus, that 2007 Adventure Time pilot episode is not available anywhere on digital, streaming, DVD, or Blu-ray releases. This makes me further believe that Nickelodeon still owns rights to the 2007 pilot episode that aired on Nicktoons because after making it become a full show, Cartoon Network has made no attempts to release that episode legally, even on their so-called "complete series" releases.
@@andykishore I think so. The Adventure Time pilot was featured on the Nicktoons series "Random Cartoons" which also had Bravest Warriors and Fanboy and Chum Chum.

She didn’t really do a whole lot in the space episodes but I’m glad Eileen at least got more screen time in the final season, she’s one of my top 3 favs from the show, her weird moments from the earlier seasons always get me, and she and Rigby are really cute/I love how she inspired him to better himself both for her but also just for his own sake. The writers even admitted she wasn’t supposed to go to space initially but they felt bad underutilizing her since they all really liked her (fun fact she’s also voiced by one of the storyboard artists Minty Lewis!)

So in that regard, I’m glad she was included in the last season. I wasn’t particularly familiar with said last season, so seeing her and Rigby presumably married with kids was a welcome shock

I remember my first encounter with regular show. I was sitting in the living room playing with my bakugans, I was probably nine or ten at that point, and I had cartoon Network on in the background when suddenly I heard one of the characters say "You pissed me off" and I had to do a double take.
So yeah, My first episode of regular show was with sentient hot dogs that ended up cannibalizing each other. Needless to say it became my childhood self's favorite show.

Despite the dark era that was Season 6, I genuinely believe most of Regular Show still holds up, especially Season 7, its genuinely so nice and sweet to see Rigby get his act together and grow as a person, as well as all the dome stuff which I enjoyed. I still also enjoy Season 8 but I can see how you and others got bored by it, the Pops stuff does carry it admittedly. The 3-day straight marathon is extremely commendable, but also kind of a shame, not just cuz it wrecked you but it likely negatively impacted your view of the show the longer it went on, seeing everything back to back for hours on end will make you see repitition and make you HATE it, but I'm glad you still viewed it as an overall jolly good show by the end.

The zombie episode from season two is actually what got me into the show. I remember playing the game based off of the episode on my iPod touch so many years ago.

With you constantly talking about the structure of the show, it makes me interested to see a Phineas & Ferb ranking. That show similarly has a structure to most episodes so it will be interesting to see if you feel the same about that show as you did for Regular Show.
Phineas and Ferb is definitely majorly carried by the humor, as very little changes throughout the series, though there are only like three or four episodes I actively dislike (Bee Story is definitely at the bottom)
I feel like p&f is the pops to this shows anti pops, like they know they have a formula but they change it enough and its interesting enough to never get stale and ever surprises you in good ways.

I feel like the majority of your problems with this series come from holding it to an impossible standard. Not every episode is going to be the thanksgiving special, but you sound so tired and bored of it that it comes off as pretentiousness. Let me tell ya, watching Regular show as a kid and having sit through the Modercai romantic subplots was probably the most frustrating thing to experience, and I still ponder to this day was Quintel was thinking when coming up with it .

I actually remember one of the writers (think it was Owen Dennis) saying they didn’t like how kids shows always showed the main character ending up with the first person they fell in love with, when in real life it’s more complicated/it’s not realistic/you might not get closure etc

One of the greatest cartoons of all time in my opinion. It really pushed the boundaries on what shows for kids and teens can do. Plus it served as a great contrast to Adventure Time because Adventure Time at first glance seems very colorful and childish, while Regular Show was very lowkey, just for both of those shows to catch you off guard
Looking back it’s really disappointing how CJ and Margaret were treated in terms of writing. Almost every time they show up, they barely go beyond being love interests to Mordecai. I think they each got to be the focus of, like... one episode each? And with them both eventually being written out it just kinda makes it all feel pointless, though I’m glad he didn’t wind up with either of them

Regular Show has a bit of a problem with how it treats its female characters, yeah. Eileen was the only one who really felt like she broke out of the role of "love interest," but even then her character largely revolves around her relationship with Rigby. Also see the number of throwaway female characters who exist solely as love interests, like Celia and Pam.

i never really understood the margaret hate within the community in the early seasons tbh. she’s generally just vibing and living her life in the show. every time she’s hanging with mordecai, she’s usually pretty direct with him about where they stand and only ever really reacts when HE does something insane, which he inevitably always does. he’s the one who always puts the pressure on himself and their relationship (even when he KNOWS she likes him already) and just always props her up way more than he needs to.
like how did her “fucking him over” in the kiss bet episode turn into her being horrible??? he bet to kiss her? she just retaliated in a pretty fair way really. and people always say “she led him on” which… no? she’s living her life and dated other people because the man who was obsessed with her refused to ever buck up and ask her out. that’s on him, not her.
it’s just weird that somehow all of his own doing of doing NOTHING but being weird around her, turned into her being the hated one???

But thank you for doing this, as Regular Show to me is my favorite CN show of the 2010's era, and holds a place to me that Courage, the Ed Boys, KND, Billy & Mandy, and OG PPG did in the 90's/2000's. Can't wait to see your (future) American Dad review
The fact that i recognized basically every single episode before season 7 makes me rethink what i did on my lifetime.
Finished watching the video, and the only one (before season 7) that i did not recognize or remembered was the one were they want to steal Muscle Man trailer. Yeah, i really need to rethink it.
I loved the Dome storyline, personally. It was really fun and intriguing and when I first watched the show I was theorizing like a lunatic- PARTICULARLY in the cooking competition episode with a bunch of background details in one shot in Gene's office.
It was a very nice change of pace from the usual story beats

Unfortunately, it was the worst because Mark tried to do a sleep deprivation run expecting it to be that short and think sleep is for the weak. That had greatly affected his views on the show, but he did admit that the show was consistently good without much of a bad decline.
