- Astronaut Leo Davidson's pod cruiser gets caught in a space-time wormhole. His cruiser crash lands on what he thinks is Earth. However, he soon discovers that apes not humans rule earth.
The fact this movie was done with makeup & prosthetics and NOT CGI is incredible
There’s all those original ones though. It didn’t start here. They didn’t have CGI then that’s for sure.
@@jaybenjamin4563 I think the person meant that with the pechant for CGI over use in the 2000s, this movie to go all practical is to be admired. And indeed, the main actor may have been crap as well as most of the supportive human cast, but the Apes were the best in design and in execution. They look like actual real Apes with vaguely modern human characteristics. I think the humans were the weakest part of this film and what really damaged it.
Doesn’t mean it isn’t a good movie, by that definition a lot of b grade horror movies are exceptional because they used prosthetics

Fox stated that if Planet of the Apes was a financial success, then a sequel would be commissioned. Ultimately, they decided against pursuing another film.[citation needed] When asked whether he would be interested in working on a follow-up, director Tim Burton replied, "I'd rather jump out a window." Mark Wahlberg and Helena Bonham Carter would have returned if Burton had decided to make another Apes film. Paul Giamatti had been interested in reprising his role. "I think it'd be great to have apes driving cars, smoking cigars," Giamatti said. "Wearing glasses, sitting in a board room, stuff like that." Planet of the Apes was the last film Burton worked on with his former fiancée Lisa Marie. After their relationship broke up, Burton started a relationship with Bonham Carter, who portrayed Ari. Planet of the Apes was also Burton's first collaboration with producer Richard D. Zanuck.

This was so much better than the CGI movies...It was at least reminiscent of the original Planet of the Apes which still stands up to any movie ever made IMO...CGI is to make things look real and many Producers forget in these times that we don't go to movies to see "REAL"...We go to indulge our fantasies...
Leo Davidson should have contemplated an anomaly that could take him to a negative future, could also take him to a negative past.
1. How captain Davidson's spaceship is able to identify the year while travelling in time?
2. Is he really travelling to the future?
3. Is the action occuring:
a. In another planet? It looks so, as several moons are observed when captain Davidson is approaching to it and because of the message sent by the commander of the Oberon station that is listened towards the end of the movie. In this case, I understand that the apes are descendants of those who escaped from the Oberon station which crashed in that planet back in time. But what about the humans? Supposedly there were no human survivors after the crash and that's exactly what captain Davidson says towards the end of the movie. So why there are humans in a different planet (which, by the way, all speak the same language as captain Davidson)?
b. If it's the Earth, why it does have several moons? Why it seems to be in a different solar system? Why there are no human buildings remains in that planet?
4. Why when captain Davidson is travelling back in time to Earth (to his epoch):
a. There is a memorial to general Thade? Did he travel in time further back than captain Davidson? How?
b. The whole planet is populated by apes? How?
c. The apes build the same buildings, cars, clothes, etc, than the humans did in a parallel existence? How?
I do really like this movie, but the story is confusing and more especially the end. In fact inconsistent and this ending was screaming for a sequel.

How does Thade exist on planet earth, unless it was a parallel universe that Davidson got thrown into
The only way it works is if the storm they went through was rift of time+space, not just time. That explains why the ape planet is so close to earth but gone when he comes back out of the storm. As for the earth scenario, the only way that works is if thade had left the ape planet some years after wahlberg in a ship of some sort, went through the storm and landed a few hundred years before wahlberg did because of the time displacement. However, there were no ships left and both the jesus ship and original pod were wrecked. I hate this films ending lol. If the ending is ever revealed in the future as 'there was another ship' ill be so disappointed lol

Man, this film is extremely complicated to understand.
In my opinion, in fact, it's just impossible to understand.
The only way to watch it, is just not using any kind of logic, as a pure dumb.

Instead of time traveling I always thought it was more fitting he was just jumping into a parallel reality like the one where he changed the timeline in most of the movie and then moving into the “future” so see an ape society like man did was another parallel universe where in the past of that timeline he was never there…so at the end of the movie he jump across 1 universe ending up in a 3rd so his home where humans lives is 1 and the one where the movie takes place is universe 2 and then the ale society that’s like ours is universe 3
Interesting but I always thought that General Thade must’ve figured out how to use one of the pods on the ship and traveled to past earth and changed the course of history to favor the apes

The ending is badass, because we get a similar ending to the 1968 film but instead of seeing the statue liberty we see a statue of the main ape villain and we see the apes have become more evolved and human like and that makes the ending scary and hopeless for the main protagonist.

By defeating thade of the future to avoid a paradox an alternate reality was created to undo the damage and therefore replaces human dominated earth with ape dominated earth reality. so in exchange since leo saved the apes in the future world the twist becomes thade saved the apes in the alternate world making him president and also giving him the thade lincoln statue
Reminder: Thade saved the Apes in the future world so given leo saved the apes again destroying that reality the Earth reality now becomes a Thade saved earth world to fix said damage leo created

well its technically possible if Thade escaped the locked room with the gun he could possibly find another pod on the ship and use it to fly through the storm and place himself far in the past in order for that alternate timeline to work - personally i loved the ending it does make sense if you’re willing to use your imagination a little and piece together what happened
Unless the wormhole sent Thade back to caveman time, some human would have ended up shooting him. But then why would a wormhole send him further back than it did Leo?
