In the second backstory he's a robot that wanted to stop making bombs for an underground empire (which is apparently the Bungeling Empire from Raid on Bungeling Bay, Choplifter and most relevantly, Lode Runner), discovered there was a way to become human, escaped the empire and turned into Lode Runner from Lode Runner. There's two more less detailed backstories before Bomberman '94 introduced Planet Bomber with the continuity the rest of the franchise followed. Act Zero obviously not withstanding. That game's main character is some nameless humanoid bomberman, not White Bomberman anyway.

Yet most people probably won't know what that is. I played the animal crossing port of the nes game and it seemed interesting. I doubt the skill ceiling is as high as the other games but who knows.
Bomberman Tetris sounds like a dope asymmetrical multiplayer game. If I knew how to program I’d make it. Player 1 plays Tetris trying to kill Player 2 who’s playing Bomberman.
This is actually perfect for a short because of how the screen is like on Tetris anyway. Bomberman just needs to have a better Tetris player and he will dominate
