As a Sone, I think 2ne1 is on par in term of greatness. The charisma and talent of the members are through the roof. Their hit songs are fire, pun intended. Too bad they disbanded way too soon while they were still on top.
Not to disrespect the later gen artists, but the 2nd gen was the best in my opinion.
Everyone from 2NE1 are Korean; Dara moved to the PH when she was 7 until before she trained for YG; Bom is Korean but grew up in America (Jenny is her ENG name) until she was in High School; CL was born in Korea and was partly raised in Paris and California, her dad known for being the korean Einstein-he is a very well-known and credited Doctor of Physics; and Minzy grew up in Korea.
Bom also went to college in Lesley University in cambridge to study psychology and switched to berklee college of music in boston 💯

@rubthesleep actually I would say is bcs they have met dear ones with psychological struggles.
I'm not sure in other countries but here you need to pass a psychological test to be accepted in any university plus they ask you to start counseling since your first quarter or semester.

Also highly agree w the internet ruining music. The thing I miss the most is REGIONAL MUSIC from America. When you could tell a southern rapper from a NY rapper etc etc, but bc the sounds are everywhere and so accessible, everyone is just doing everything instead of landing on what feels true to them. Its fkn tragic beyond measure.

I romanicize a lot of lyrics in my stories so I can emphasize the stretch etc of certain words so this isn't *just* a flex lol. Its also practice bc the way they're spelled in hangul is exactly how you're sposed to type it out so it helps me rem how to spell words when I do. As soon as I start typing Sherlock in rom my keyboard automatically pops up the whole words now 😂 forever a banger. But sajin sok nigaaaa looks better than 사진 속 니가ㅏㅏㅏㅏ, yanno?? Or it makes more sense to the ppl reading it other than me I should say.

I believe "I am the Best" is their response to Mr. Yang calling them ugly in public. The lyrics make this a clear rebuttal to his vicious comment. "Ugly" is also a response to his comment confronting the pain it causes. "Goodbye!" always chokes me up. It is almost painful to watch and listen to.

2NE1's disbandment was the saddest because it was piurely mismanganment. Not becasue of the members, fans, or popularity ... simply mismanagement
I am left with the impression that 2NE1 was broken up by its CEO out of personal spite. Minjzy was driven out, Bom was downgraded and they the company disbanded them behind their back. The members have remained close as the pursue their individual careers.
It’s funny because when I got into kpop I wasn’t drawn to 2ne1 musically (exceptions being missing you, I don’t care, i am the best, comeback home, and goodbye will always be jams don’t play me) but because I was on the more SNSD pop sound still am but experiencing kpop now and rewatching 2ne1 I have such a appreciation and respect for them because they have a presence and aura that is so unique to them that I see in gidle but it’s still different. Like you guys were talking about there was a freedom and originality that stemmed not having to be so rigid in both professional and personally.
And plus that little rant about members leaving and forgetting their existence don’t read GG like leave my girls alone😂
I'm pretty sure CL did live in US for a little bit after she was signed by Scooter Braun and tried to get into the western market. But this was already after debuting in 2ne1. She was very serious about being authentic and actually immersing herself in the culture

I don't fully remember but I think Goodbye was a song they did for the fans actually since they relseased it 2 months after they found out they were disbanded. It includes Minzy because they always acknowledged her impact on the group and they'll always consider her part of 2ne1.
Even now, the 4 of them meet as 2ne1 and the Coachella performance also included Minzy.
I honestly can say there were many attempts to recreate 2ne1 in every company and not one could get the type of synergy, stage presence and raw talent each of 2ne1 had. It's cruel to say it like that but even from an objective view, no one could reach them in those terms

About the whole ex-member thing; sometimes it isn’t up to them, the company forbids it, or there’s a huge backlash from the public/fans (I think this was the case with MX and Wonho, they were seen together in public and people freaked out, so it isn’t worth the trouble that it causes both parties). In this case, there wasn’t a scandal or anything surrounding it, unless we count the YG dungeon and favouritism as a scandal but that’s nothing new 🙃
I was about to comment, the nature of the leave always effects it like I don’t keep up with SF9 that much but even though Rowoon left to focus on his acting career, the official account still follows him + the members still follow him cause he didn’t leave with any muck yk. I wouldn’t be surprised if he joins back into the group in the future for reunions and such. (Same with Ilhoon tbh cause BTOB don’t give a fuck nor MX like I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few good years Wonho joins in for a reunion)
Bom voice is an acquired taste. Back when I first got into 2NE1 I always thought Minzy had the best voice then randomly after a few months I started finding my ears perking up when it'd get to Boms parts. In saying that, her unique vocal is definitely polarizing. You either love it or hate it.
dara was always considered extremely beautiful by korean standards tho she was the visual
As a girl that didnt fit into the pretty pretty mold it was such a relief when i found 2ne1. Them saying this is who i am was everything to me. Only groups like Mamamoo and Gidle have given me that feeling again since them
