    Oil change on 2009 Repsol Honda CBR 1000RR.
    Unique Features:
    Dual Stage Fuel Injection System (PGM-DSFI) features two injectors per cylinder.
    Idle-Air Control Valve (IACV) and Ignition Interrupt Control for idle stability and smoother on/off throttle response.
    Low-mount exhaust system design.
    Patented slipper clutch features cam mechanism to reduce clutch-lever pull.
    MotoGP-derived Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD).
    43mm Honda Multi-Action System (HMAS) inverted front fork.
    Exclusive, MotoGP-derived Unit Pro-Link® Rear Suspension.
    Radial-mount front brake calipers combined with radial-actuated master cylinder.
    Centrally located fuel tank increases mass centralization for a more compact frame design.
    I'm not a mechanic, professionals might have a different method. This is how I do it.
    My second try using my new GoPro Hero HD 2. There was a learning curve with this video; I edited with Final Cut Pro X (new to me). Making the song was no small task for an old man in GarageBand either...
    After my first upload, I noticed the video didn't turn out as nice as it did on my monitor, then after a bit of research, found out I needed the proper compression to get the quality of the picture I was after.
    It would be nice if "Compressor" was bundled with Final Cut Pro X, but I suppose for the price its hard to beat.
    This was a fun project just the same

    You shouldn't check the oil level on the side stand, and you don't screw in the dip stick to check it either.

    • @joshmaster618
      @joshmaster618 Před 9 lety

      I know it's suppose to be in a upright position when checking and dip stick must not be screwed in, I guess this is ok?

  • @joshmaster618
    @joshmaster618 Před 9 lety +13

    Owners manual says not to screw in the dip stick all the way to check oil. It's says just to seat it were it barley starts to screw in.

    Thanks. The only other things I've done are the fender eliminator, Repsol tire hugger and the rear seat cowl. Thanks again for the comment.

  • @NewportStudio

    Thanks ehsan.
    ~ don't use a wrench to tighten an oil filter; hand "snug" is perfect. You don't want to strip the threads, or smash the "O" ring by over tightening.
    ~ on the dipstick, there is a lower "indicator" (just a line), and and upper "indicator. I shoot for just below the upper indicator when checking with the bike level. The difference in the amount of oil between the lower indicator and the upper indicator, is just over half a quart.
    Take care

    Clever video. I ride a 2010 Road King and was just bouncing around on CZcams looking at others' videos. I appreciate the way you edited the video to remove all the extraneous bits that so many leave in and that you didn't feel the need to drone on about what you were doing with a boring play-by-play. Well done.

    I have a CBR600RR 05 and a 2009 CBR1000RR. Honda makes an outstanding machine. But why in hell do they make it so damn hard to do monthly mainatance on the bikes. The other manufactures make much less diffacult.

    the dip stick should be rested in position NOT SCREWED IN to check the level. Check level when on level ground and upright.

    Why did Honda go with a dipstick instead of a sight glass window? Seems annoying to me. With a sight glass you can just hold the bike upright to look at the oil level.

    think you're checking the oil level incorrectly...shouldn't screw it in and then out to check level.... should be take out, wipe, put in but don't screw in and then check.... as per manual..

    It can be a bit of a pain, after you do it a few times, more of a breeze. But no tips, sorry. You have to align 4 things at the same time for them to go into the proper spot, just takes a bit of patience at first

  • @TechNicolas
    @TechNicolas Před 11 lety

    Everything is okay,
    but how you checked the oil level is incorrect!
    1. Unscrew the Dipstick and clean it (how you did)
    2. Put the dipstick in and replace it on the thread (don´t screw it)
    3. Bring the motorcycle into a straight position (you testet it on the sidestand or the rear stand... thats not the normal operation position of the engine)
    4. Pull out the dipstick and check the level
    here is a good graph: foto[DOT]arcor-online[DOT]net/palb/alben/24/1276124/3734666234663434[DOT]jpg

    Excellent production. Thanks for posting. Question about checking the oil level. At first you had checked the level while the bike is on the paddock stand in up position. Then after you ride it, you've done it while the bike is on side stand in lean position. Both times you've screwed the dipstick.
    What is the correct way to do it? if there is any... Should we keep the bike upright or leaned and should we tighten the dipstick or just plug it in and out?
    Appreciated.

  • @NewportStudio
    @NewportStudio  Před 12 lety

    @andreidantes17 Hey thanks! Your bike will actually be a bit easier... the oil filter is on the right side above the pipe. After you remove the right side fairing, pull the drain plug. Get yourself some cardboard or tinfoil (tinfoil is easier to shape), make a "canal" with the tin foil to place between the filter and the pipe, after loosening the filter, the oil will run down the "canal" into the drain pan.

  • @clys69
    @clys69 Před 12 lety

    The correct way to check the oil is with the bike level (not on a rear stand, or leaning on the kickstand as in this video) and you do NOT thread the dipstick in when verifying oil level. Good video but some blatantly wrong practices here.

    He used the wrong oil according to the owners manual it should be 10w30 not 40! Also he screwed the dip stick in and out to check the level that's wrong your supposed to put it in the the seating position and pull it back out and check.

    • @NewportStudio
      @NewportStudio  Před 10 lety

      Man, if your talking about the oil drain bolt? Shouldn't be that bad... it could be a bit "frozen" due to the "steel" bolt in the "aluminum" block; if there's a bit of corrosion when the two meet, there is a chance they get pretty stiff. But if you really can't get it, best to err on the side of caution and ride it over to your dealer. Take care

    thanks for the video!!! it's awesome. I have an 2008 CBR1000RR (about 17k miles on it). What is your recommendation on whether using Synthetic or Blend oil? I heard there will be clutch slippage if using synthetic. I think my previous mechanic used Motul oil but I am not sure which one. From Motul website, it recommends 10W30 7100 for my bike. But should it be 10W40? I live in Southern CA. Also, what is the best way to check the oil level? is there a difference if it's on or off the pitbull stand? I'm a little OCD when it comes to that. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    • @gosoku2771
      @gosoku2771 Před 5 lety

      All Honda's after 2006 call for 10w 30. It's because of the bearing tolerance in the engine. 10w 40 is too thick to properly lubricate. Pro Honda hp4s 10w 30 full synthetic oil (red bottle) is what you should be using. Motul 5100 synthetic blend comes in 10w 30 and Maxima Pro Plus full synthetic comes in 10w 30. Both of these are good and can also be used. I prefer Pro Honda hp4s 10w 30, it's outstanding!
