Usopp's name is a combination between the Japanese word for liar, Uso and the famous Fable writer Aesop. It's a clear way to tell what Oda was going for in his character.
"uso" just means "lie"
And what is Fable backwards? 😏

One of my favorite added scenes of the series is the conversation between Nami and Kaya. Does so much for both these characters and it’s nice to see Nami’s softer side.

The reason Buggy didnt fight back against Arlong is because he knows he cant overpower him, devil fruit or not, fishmen are notoriously stronger than humans, even though Buggy could use his devil fruit and try to out maneuver him... he cant do much when it comes to Arlongs fishman strength.
Arlong is also more notorious of a pirate than Buggy, so theres just a generally strong fear of someone with a higher bounty in play as well.
Not to forget to mention that their fishmen karate uses water based attacks.
If I remember Buggy's devil fruit has a draw back related to his feet being on the ground or something like that.
Also while he can separate he will still feel all the pain Arlong can and would inflict.

The Jolly Roger drawn that way by Luffy was great to see in live action. Totally in character and how it happened in the original manga/anime.
Fun fact: Oda included simple instructions for readers of the manga on how to draw your own jolly rogers. Gradually, over time, he admitted that coming up with the unique designs for pirate groups and individual characters was one of his favorite things to do when getting ready to introduce new characters.
3:50 What makes the scene when Nami is trying on different outfits cool is the fact that it's a direct reference to all of the cover art and title pages that Oda drew in the series.
Most of the cover pages features the characters sporting fancy, colorful or amazing fashionable outfits.
Manga/anime characters are commonly seen wearing one or two outfits. Most creators like to draw their characters wearing other cool outfits or dressing them in special themes.
Nami is one of the few characters that actually wears a ton of different outfits in canon because she has a lot of style and fashion sense in comparison to the others.

All the Straw Hats wear multiple outfits across the series, but several are just iconic. Nami actually has a second reason for getting more (and generally sexier) outifts than the rest:
Oda's wife is/was a Nami cosplayer (or plays her in a stage show; the info's scarce), so he has Nami wear things he likes to see on his wife.
Cutting attacks don't work on Buggy. Other attacks that Buggy sees coming he can move out of the way of. But, that doesn't make him immune to them, so attacks like impacts, grapples, friction, squeezing, heck, even tickling can still effect him. It's only cutting attacks that Buggy is immune to.
and buggy is ultimately a coward who is scared of fighting anyone strong than him

dunno if you've seen the anime but this is a detail exposited about, as its meant to be a sign that he's SO used to his unique weapon and so ready to fight with it he devleoped that weird quirk so he wouldn't accidentally cut himself.

Luffy in real manga and anime didn't call his crew as a 'strawhat's crew'. This name created the Marines. And in the real show Luffy knew Ussop is Yassop's child from the start. That's why he wanted Ussop in the crew from the start.
I like how you bring up Nami trying to justify being a thief and not a pirate, because in Japanese the word for pirate(kaizoku) is actually just the words for sea and thief, put together.
The acting playing Kuro was cool and creepy at the same time.
tbh i think he is one of the weakest links in the series. I was so hyped for him cause i love Kuro but instead of threatening and menacing he just feels like a laughing stock to me.
@@mto7429 In the trial run, One piece was suppose to end at Alabasta. So, Kuro the prototype for Haki would became another Cat Cat rival character for Luffy. Same with Alvida and Big M, japanese dragon and Arlong. The only character that survived this was Buggy.
I love Kuro in episode 4!
@@SuperSky9 I don't know where you got your information from but it's surely not from official sources. It sounds like a fan theory someone based on the fact the Oda originally had a five year plan and misunderstood what this really means. We likely see the remnants of this plan mostly at the start and at the end of the current One Piece.

Zoro is a lot of people's favorite in the Anime/Manga as well, so the fact that you love him that much is pretty cool.

Luffy knows what he wants. Women don't really factor into that. Nami could be standing there buck naked and he would be like "yep.. still look like Nami. When is dinner again?" Also I love how well they got Kuro, especially with him adjusting his glasses. It always seems weird he does it with the palm of his hand, but then you realize he does that out of habit from wearing those claws.
wierd fact....in the Anime/manga Mr Merry survives cause he was slashed.....in here he died cause he was impaled....and not too many people survive being impaled....especially with 5 blades in to Vital Organs

For the most part when you metabolize toxins your body changes them into forms that can easily be removed and are no-longer affecting you. Some toxins' metabolites (changed forms) do still have toxic effects.
But, in general, if you have an amazing metabolism you're clearing the toxins faster, not absorbing them faster. So it's to your benefit.
(i.e. someone who metabolizes alcohol quickly is going to be drunk for a shorter amount of time)
From what I can tell it wasn't exactly a case of Yassop abandoning them. Bantina knew he wanted to go when Shanks offered him a place on the crew, so she encouraged him to leave. I think in the anime she said that she was proud to be married to a man who followed his dreams.
Still don't understand why he couldn't have sent them a letter every once in a blue moon when they'd stayed in one place for a few months, just to let them know he was alive.

As something to note that the live action didn't clarify.... the villain here didn't use super speed. He used a TECHNIQUE, one that anyone can learn. But, the villain here.... he made the technique himself. Therefore, it's a technique not refined by years of users.

Arlong is a fishman and fishman are by default naturally stronger than most humans. Not only that but they are also very varied as they typically are based on all sea creatures, Arlong is a much stronger fishman than most despite that there are many MUCH stronger than him. But as far as the East Blue goes he's the strongest pirate in that area, meaning he's stronger than Buggy. Typically in One Piece a pirates bounty is a good indicator of strength the stronger the pirate the higher the bounty.

10:00 I don't believe it was actually explained in the netflix live action but Buggys powers unfortunately don't work like that. Someone earlier mentioned that he physically cannot fight fishman because they're are stronger than normal humans.
He can separate and fly around. But his powers are actually designed so that his feet actually cannot fly. They hop/walk around at all times on the ground and unfortunately limit his range when his top parts are flying.
Also, as a comedic gag in the manga/anime that doesn't get showcased in the live action is that he feels anything physically even when seperated.
In the original series, Luffy actually tickles, pinches and cracks Buggy's toes in a funny segment which does distract Buggy during the fight. 😂😂😂😂
It seems his powers work a little differently in the live-action continuity, because he did send one of his feet flying at Zoro in Episode 2.
I think he can use one foot. Because he does it in the anime as well. I remember because he had a blade in his shoe.
Emily Rudd (the actress that plays Nami) said it best in interviews. She just flat out told the actor that plays Zoro that he is just effortlessly cool. Honestly the chemistry between Nami and Zoro is crackling in all their scenes, and the ships for them have sailed all across the internet. HA
Arlong could eat Buggy, chopping himself would make it easier, that's pretty scary...

there's a few reasons buggy fears arlong that isn't directly extrapolated outloud so i'll say them for you
-just cause he cna split himself doesn't mean he's invisincible. Hell, he can still feel pain.
-Buggy's actually a bit of a coward. He can stand up to people if he thinks they can't put upa fight, but anyone who actually is higher up in the food chain than him he is NOT gonna risk anything with without a plan.
-Arlong is WAY stronger than buggy.

Though the live action didn't really convey it well Zoro got lost twice once in this episode and another in the next.

Oh, and as a side note, the Live Action severely under-plays Usopp in this compared to the anime, unfortunately.
And this is one of those moments where the adaptation from the anime/manga kind of loses me in live action.
As stupid as Kuro’s weapon is, the absurdity of the One Piece world in animated form helps keep feel in place.
And Beth, what you’re thinking of that guy with the cerated nose, is a Sawshark. Species of sharks with very long cerated noses.
There’s also a Sawfish which is more closely related to Manta Rays, but more safe to say the villain is based off a shark.
Sawshark makes sense and seems pretty obvious just couldn’t think of the word 😂🤗
In the manga/anime Sham was actually a guy, i'm not sure, why they decided to gender bend him, but i'm not complaining...

This is the worst series in the world, it has no connection at all, and it lacks a lot of important details that they never used. As for the real One Piece, the anime One Piece is just the best, nothing else, and the talk is over.

Out of some reactors you have no Idea what's going on here and it's not fun watching, you look like just going thru the process. Sorry to be harsh but that's my comment.
There's kind of an indirect explanation for why Buggy is scared of the swordfish-but-not-swordfish guy (it is a swordfish :) later as you watch the show. This live action adaptation, despite being very whimsical and wacky, doesn't even hold a candle to how crazy it gets in the anime. I don't really want to spoil anything, even if I don't know if you guys would ever watch the entire 1100 episodes of the anime, so I'll just say the power scaling is insane. Buggy may seem like a big threat here with how they portray him with the intro and everything, but he's very much a comic relief character in the anime, and has a relatively low level power. To be fair, Luffy's power also seems like a silly, low level power on paper when compared to some of the other ones, but powers are really just a gimmick imo. Logic doesn't really apply and it's all just about bounties, which are kind of the in-universe method of ranking how strong people are, so people with powers that seem like they may have an edge will be weaker than people with higher bounties.
