John didn’t run with Abigail and Jack because he wanted them to live a free life, he sacrificed himself for his family so that Ross can be satisfied with the Marston family. Jack is such a tragic character, RDR is the only gaming franchise that has genuinely made me cry.

    • @redt8311

Wouldn’t be shocked if Red dead redemption 3 or a Red dead Revelations is about Jack. “Revenge is a fools game” and as shown in this franchise actions do have consequences. People always claim for whatever reason that a Jack game would *need* to be mafia or ww1. I mean sure you could do that. Or just follow the Example of the 1914 Wild West styled Epilogue in Rdr1 and make a full game. As long as the game is designed to still feel like a Wild West game nobody’s gonna care about the year. If they did people would’ve been complaining all the way back since 2010 about the unrealistic, inaccurate nature of the 1914 Epilogue section. The Mafia’s prime years didn’t even start until 1920. America didn’t even get involved in WW1 until April 1917 and we don’t start drafting until May. So we got a few years to work with for Jack without overlapping anything else as long as we keep the story within 1914, 1915, 1916 and the early part of 1917.
And none of the theories about Jack’s life after this game are 100% confirmed canon by Rockstar. So he could’ve died a Outlaw, a Soldier, just an average Joe, or a successful old man as far as we know. Personally, if his game ever does happen, I hope rockstar chooses the latter.

@@redt8311 if we ever get a RDR3, I think it should take place before the blackwater massacre. The Protagonist should be Mac Callendar, I imagine the last cutscene is him getting murdered by agent Milton during the blackwater massacre. If I’m being honest though, RDR3 wouldn’t work like RDR1 & 2. I feel like an epilogue to Jack would be just stretching it, he’s only 19 in 1914, we see him for 1 duel, they’d have to go into the future for Jack to be as good as John or Arthur and that wouldn’t really be about the Wild West.
The reason the prequel idea wouldn't work is because who are we gonna play as after the blackwater massacre if we know everything that happens already, after finishing the story of RDR3 you’d just play as Arthur and the camp will be in colter 24/7 lol. I just don’t know what they can do for this idea to be possible.
The next ‘Red Dead’ should be about the prime times of the Wild West with brand new characters and a whole different story imo.

"When I'm gone, they'll just find another monster." Dutch was right. It's one of those things that you never see in the moment but when you look back, it was all pointing in that direction. Ross was never gonna let John live, he was part of the gang, and he wanted the gang wiped out. Ross used John to take out all the gang members, made him do all the hard, dangerous work while he stayed in his office, and then ambushed him like a coward.

So of all the fighting members of the gang who would have been known to the agents, only Charles managed to get away. From a story perspective I’m guessing it’s because he went so far away they couldn’t get to him even if they knew where he was, or they just simply couldn’t find him because he went away and lived a quiet life not attracting attention. Or for all anyone knows he could have died by this point too.

I love how they handled the concept of revenge throughout this series and how perfectly they illustrate how it’s just not worth it.
John was found by the Bureau of Investigation (formerly the Pinkertons) because he chose to hunt down Micah for revenge. Abigail tried to stop him, even screaming to him that he was risking everything they had. But he was blinded by his need for payback.
Jack ultimately follows the same blunder as his father, choosing to hunt and kill the man that wronged his family. And honestly, who could blame him? If someone murdered my father, I don’t think I’d be able to walk away from the chance to murder them right back.
But in choosing revenge, Jack rendered his father’s sacrifice meaningless. John gave his life so the Bureau would have no further reason to chase Abigail and Jack, and so they could live normal lives free of John’s outlaw past. He gave everything for Jack to be able to escape the sins of his father.
But now Jack has become the very thing his parents tried so hard to prevent him from being: a gunslinging outlaw. As far as anyone knows, he murdered a highly decorated retired federal agent; few probably know anything about who Ross really was, and even those who do probably are those who helped cover it up. So Jack will now have to sleep with an eye open for agents that might come for him, and that will probably eventually lead to him going on the run and resorting to crime to survive.

In the end, both Arthur and John's efforts failed. Arthur wanted John's family to live the life he wanted, and John wanted the same for Jack. But, John choosing to get revenge on Micah led Ross straight to him, and led to the events that brought John to his demise. Jack, too, decided to choose revenge and killed Ross, becoming the one thing both Arthur and John worked so hard to try to prevent: A gunslinger.

25:35 when you started to pick up on what was comming, that was how i felt the entire game when i first played it.Rdr is so depressing after rdr2. Everything that happened so that Jack would not become an outlaw, all for nothing, all because John killed Micah and thats how the Pinkertonss found John when Arthur wanted John to not look back and Jack to live not as an outlaw. But Jack has to take revenge, repeating the cycle. Also some awesome details:
-1 Jack meets edgar Ross on a river with Arthur while fishing and then Jack kills Ross in a river while he hunts
-2 In a dialogue in the second game little Jack says: I dont wanna read, i wanna be a gunslinger. And Abigail says: over my dead body! Which is exactly what happens
-3 the 3rd part of the Stranger mission "I know you" ,where you meet the strange man, he says to John TWO times that the place they are standing on "is a real fine spot". That spot is where Johns grave is located.
I hope you see this. Your playthrough was amazing and you picked up on a lot of subtle things

"Your father killed himself with the life he lived"
Such a great line that gets easily forgotten about. The life that John lived was going to get him killed eventually. John knew that the odds were that Ross wasn't going to let John walk away completely after all the terrible things John had done over the years. Ultimately I don't believe Jack will get his own game if only because the way of the outlaw by this point in the timeline is gone for good.
If you think about it Jack ends the game as a murderer on the run which is exactly what John and Abigail wanted Jack to avoid doing, Jack's entire family has been destroyed by the government but the main cause of that destruction was the fact that his family (John and Abigail) were outlaws themselves who did many terrible things to get to where they were and those terrible things eventually caught up to them in the form of the government agents catching them and forcing John to turn against his former gang.
I don't think the story of Jack can really be continued in a Red Dead game given that the West has essentially been civilized at this point and Jack himself realizes that the outlaw gang lifestyle doesn't work anymore in a civilized world. He also realizes that in a more civilized world, his own sins are much more likely to catch up with him and that he is not going to be able to run away from them. So I think that Jack does settle down and attempts to live a quiet life elsewhere, becoming an author. After all given the sort of person he killed in Ross I doubt very much that the government will really be all that interested in wanting to track Jack down for Ross's death especially if Jack doesn't do anything else to draw attention to himself.

  • @terminallumbago6465
    @terminallumbago6465 Před 10 měsíci +1

    In this essay I will:
I feel like there are definitely different perspectives based on which order you played the games in. Speaking as someone who played the first game first, I didn’t really have a chance to see characters like Bill, Dutch, and Javier as anything but villains who stood in the way of John getting back to his family. It wasn’t until the second game where those gaps are filled in and you get to see the background and the relationships between the characters. So if you played the second game first, you already went into RDR1 with that backstory in mind.
On the flip side though, there are moments and callbacks in RDR2 that possibly resonated more with those of us who played RDR1 first. It was nice to finally know how John got his scars, and see Beecher’s Hope built from the ground up, and learn how Uncle became part of the Marston family, and other smaller moments like John coming out of the cabin wearing his RDR1 iutfit, or posing in the same way as the RDR1 cover. Or exploring New Austin (especially Armadillo and Tumbleweed) in the second game, or hearing certain characters mentioned like Bonnie MacFarlane, Landon Ricketts, and Professor MacDougal. Or hearing certain lines used in the second game that were also in RDR1 (most notably the speech Dutch gives to John on the cliff) and certain comments foreshadowing the events of RDR1.
So really both games add emotional weight and significance to different parts of the games that they wouldn’t otherwise have, but I do feel like you get a better experience if you play RDR2 first because it gives the events of RDR1 and the relationships between the characters more significance that makes for a more compelling story.

There would have been a newspaper before the final mission as Jack that had the fates of most of the NPCs in the game.
Bonnie eventually got married, though it isn’t stated who her husband is.
Marshal Johnson stepped down as marshal and went as far away from Armadillo as possible.
Seth eventually found his treasure and returned to his family.
Irish died after his gun discharged in an outhouse.
Abraham Reyes eventually became the president of Mexico but he became just as much of a tyrant as Allende.
Professor MacDougal got kicked out of Yale again after he attacked another professor with a croquet mallet and climbed onto a rooftop naked.
And Landon Ricketts died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes at an old age, having moved back to the US after that last mission with John.

All of that effort John put into getting the life he wanted and to have it end like that, truly tragic.
