- We are happy to share our next 'test project' by one of video producers at Manto. Laura has been working on this short doc since Spring 2023 and is over the moon to finally share it.
A synopsis from the filmmaker:
This film is a story of fifth-generation forester, Marcus Tribe, one of the UK’s last woodsmen. He lives in his wooden yurt on a 6-acre woodland and has spent over 20 years preserving the land and living self-sufficiently. Now 65 years of age and in a time where the Earth is in a global climate crisis, he wishes to share his lifetime of knowledge in hope of inspiring younger generations to reconnect with the land.

This lovely gent is a man made of tenacious stuff. I bought my land 20 years ago, as barren pasture, 14 acres. Now it's woodland, orchard, 1/10th acre pond and willow coppice. It took 12 years to get hard-won permission to live on it and build guest dens. I may be cash diminished, but feel resource rich. Like his acreage, mine's partly surrounded by farmland, but thankfully only grazing and fodder crops as I'm too far north in Cumbria, England. Much pain and heartbreak to get this far, but I'd never go back to my past life.
That’s my dream but 14 acres in the uk is gonna cost an immense amount. Fair play to you.
You are indeed one of the richest men on earth. Enjoy.
I would love to live like this
Happy out!! I bet your soul feels rich.
You’re living the perfect life Niall that MOST people dream of. Good for you 👍😘
nowt wild about this civilised human being , way to live life ,
Hard to explain in words, but something just "happens" after a while to a person that gives themselves the time to actually think. The truth reveals itself, our true nature is nature :)
Very wise statement, we are meant to be part of nature not the life the majority live in our fast paced technology driven pursuit.
My old man said said something like this leave things better than you found them . He always planted trees and gardens everywhere.
Please fill the world with people like this man ❤ beautiful just beautiful
"everyone has the right to live on a piece of land, and if you're living on it and maintaining it properly then what's the problem?"
I've never agreed with one single comment more.
Because people that are living self-sustainably and ethically and within their means, are a great danger to the caste slave perm-rentet system "they" are trying and are creating.
Thank you Marcus! The world needs people like you and 'your ancestor'.
Live Your Dream.
Tapping into ancestor knowledge yes, slow down, be still, let it come, just let it come and it will. Great film, great advice Marcus
Amen: let it come, let it go.
I'm so glad i clicked on this video, what he said about what you did in your life time isn't for you its for the next generations is so true.
Not long enough , could listen to this gentle man all day.
Well done producer. Well done Marcus - an island of hope.
thanks for watching!
Wish everywhere was like this all connected up with paths ….woods…forests….stopping off here and there to help others and a cup of tea….
🙂
If we covered the planet more or less like a nervous system or a mycelium growth, rather than large tumorous blobs... I love the idea of it. I also love the idea of living in tree pods or suspended pods so less of the ground is covered and more plant life is encouraged. There's no reason why we can't have both innovation and symbiotic respect for this planet which provides us with life. =)
I got kinda teary eyed, this chap lives the so many of us want to live. And his message in the end is so beautiful.
What a beautiful inspiring short film. Thank you Marcus and the film-makers for your wisdom and creativity.
this was simply beauty and utterly inspiring. Thank you to everyone involved.
You have to been the richest man alive true sanctuary my dream one day
Watching this film reminds me of hope. Thank you for making it.....Marcus, best wishes to you and your land.
thanks for your kind words :)
A beautiful film.
Wonderful , a Brother and good friend Marcus, one of those rare people, a real ‘wise man’ 🙏
🙏 Thank you for holding Sacred Space Many Blessings
Beautiful wild areas preserved is so important for the world as a whole.
What an amazing man! So in touch with nature. This film was made in a very empathetic way, with the subject matter of human, dog, and Mother Nature. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Very soothing
Wonderful to discover more folks dedicating their lives to helping Mother Earth. I would argue though that us old folks do need to 'get it' so to speak. It is not all in the hands of the young. Now that I am an elder myself, I see that the young really need the strength and stable guidance of the old. The young today are very lost. The old need to step up and help them find their way even if we are still in the process of learning ourselves. We oldsters are not redundant even if Google AI is teaching the young that we are.
We can all learn a lot from Marcus! I really enjoyed writing the score/music for this short - would love to do more in this style so if anyone watching is interested then drop me a line!
Thanks so much George for composing the score, you hit the brief dead on!!
Nature never did betray the heart that loved her. 🌿
Absolutely, wise words.🙏
Thank you... 🙏🙏🙏
HI Marcus, I hope are paths cross. I am moving down to a place a few miles north from you, keep up the good work my friend.
What a beautiful man 🇦🇺❤️
What a beautiful film. So much natural wisdom from Marcus. Thank you to the film makers too!
This is so good! This summer I finally found a small plot woodland to care for in rural Maine, and hope I can look back in 20 years with similar results and learnings.
We all have ancestor guides, most folks can't get their attention off their churning minds long enough to feel their guidance.
A life worth living. Thank you Marcus. Thank you channel.
Thanks for taking the time to watch :)
“I wish I was here to see it.” That’s the part I most relate to. So much of the recovery is going to happen in the 22nd Century, when the human population really starts pulling back.
Beautiful Brother, you touch my heart.
Thank you Marcus for sharing your acquired wisdom. Thank you Laura for putting this together for us to experience. Thank you also to Manto, the great film company that enables these films to be. 😀
thank you for your kind words, glad you enjoyed watching :)
We are doing the same in our land❤.
Lovely film ! ❤ remarkable man & dear Dingo .
We would all live better, feel better and be less dependent on the transitory trappings of modern society and pharmaceuticals if we were to follow this wise man's example
It always warms my heart to learn about fellow stewards of our precious natural resources. Thank you, sir.
Hoping to be able to do this soon but will have to plant the appropriate trees shrubs and other stabilising flora to allow the more delicate and symbiotic plants to re-establish. Hopeful of a food forest/wild self sufficient retirement
Loved this. Thank you! 💚💚💚
your a good man thingking of a future your so kind hearted GOD BLESS YOU SIR
What a love letter to a place! "Nature's language is patience...:"
It's one of the nicest, most hopeful vids I've seen on CZcams. 💚 Thank you.
❤ No idea why this showed up in my feed, but I loved every minute of it! It touches me. I think the world would be a far better place if we could all live peacefully like this. My dream for myself is like this. Looks like I needed this little nugget today. 😊
I love his story. So inspiring and full of such wisdom 🍄. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of the world!
yes, yes, yes. Even at 72 I find this inspiring.. And like he said, young people need to hear this, see this; to give them hope and some goals.
Thank you for making this, just subscribed 🤙
Thank you for a lovely and uplifting video.
It brought back a lot of happy memories of when I was young walking home through the woods with my grandmother carrying turf ( peat) in wicker baskets on our backs. This man is a true gem.
"We've all got the right to live on a small piece of land..." Indeed, but very hard to do for most of us. Great film. Home this bloke lives to a ripe old age on his land. 👍
thanks for your lovely comment :)
A gem
Aah I loved the last bit best if all x
This guy is the proverbial glass half full ,there are many that put there trust in the nature of things
Thank you Marcus & anyone else who knows the truth of what we are. This reminds me of my childhood connecting with nature...the greatest teacher I've ever known. Loving blessings to all who protect, revere & nurture our ever generous, loving abundant mother earth.💜
3:19 I think its awesome that he is sitting in the same chair from the photo taken years earlier.
I love it!!😊 You created a great life👍
I have recently bought my own small area of land. I would love to have supper with this chap, he has so much knowledge

Richard vobes has done a CZcams video with Mike from bury Saint Edmunds about his community farm project , it is excellent , knowledge of woodland, copse management in the method described in this video is very useful thanks.
So nice to know you are living in and with nature… you are very lucky to have such a beautiful home and life… Peace 🕊️ to you
🌜🌞🌛
Thank you for sharing Marcus and his way of life with us. There is such wisdom in his way of being.
It's what I aspire to. Modern life is definately rubbish . The simple the life the better . It will have it's own problems. But, many Joy's too.
What a progressive attitude. I salute this gentleman for who he is and what he is doing. I wish him and all like him the best. The world needs it!!!
Oh, my God - I wish I would be here to see it, too ❤
Such a great story! Absolutely need to remember, JESUS IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO ONE CAN COME TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH JESUS!
This was an amazing video to watch could listen to this bloke all day what a way to live wish I had the bottle to do it myself atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍🤟
Ive done exactly the same on a small plot of remote mountain land in Argentina, i lived in a tent for a few years to observe , learn from the earth and sky and introduce myself slowly to all the beings here. I let it just be and slowly built an adobe home over a couple of years. Its amazing to see all the diversity in nature that has grown and a simple harmony that continues to blossom between the sky and the earth. Thank you for sharing Marcus and his noble journey, it gives me so much hope ...🌳🍀🌻
Fuckin luvs you Marcus. Tells it how it is.
Such a lovely breath of hope.🌿
