Upward Fixation of the Patella "The Locking Stifle"

This condition can affect young growing horses, horses with excessively straight hindlimb conformation and horses on stall rest with wasting of the glutteal muscles from confinement. The patella becomes caught on the end of the femur thereby preventing the limb from being able to flex.
