Thanks for showcasing this! I'm in contact with an IW9 engine lead and their accessibility team, I'm trying to get them to add back more anti-aliasing options (Like SMAA T2x, SMAA, & Off) Everything is going smoothly, I hope BO6 will make this change however developers can be quite stubborn and its very frustrating getting them to change their mind, even though this is also an accessibility issue that causes motion sickness in some people. Also BF2042 with the full method worked for me, I think you might've done something different from me? I use BF2042 on Steam if that helps.
If BO6 wont have an option to disable anti aliasing im not buying it. really love playing cold war just because it has an option to do that, hence i dont play modern cods besides cold war.
You either get a max of 4 realtime light sources (forward rendering with MSAA) or infinite realtime light sources or raytracing (deferred rendering with TAA/temporal denoiser). If you want the best looking games you just have to compromise by not going with forward+MSAA.
You can try custom drivers on AMD which have a setting to try and disable TAA. Key word ‘try’ because it’s kind of hit or miss. I haven’t tried it in a while but it worked on MWII leaving just the SMAA.
Do you know if its possible to get mw3 to run in true fullscreen exclusive? I never managed to and are very curious what result you would get from that
im pretty sure a lot of people asked for this and you gave an answer, but do you have plans on making a video for cs2, or is it still an unoptimized mess to the point where its just not worth it yet
I would like to know what I'm maybe doing wrong with my CPU Settings. I have a 7950X3D with a 4090. Although my AVG is 400FPS in benchmark, my GPU is comparable to yours, but my CPU Avg is like 200 FPS off. 453 to your 638. I'm 35% bottleneck compared to your 2%. I do run 1440P, but could that be the difference? I haven't done these settings yet.
Hey mate, can you make an updated optimization video for MW3/Warzone please? I'm sure some settings would have changed since your last video 7 months ago.
Personally don't like aliased edges. I just use sharpening inside the driver and it helps with visibility. It's still a great alternative for people who like it.
Magic formula which works everywhere: DLDSR 2.25x or 1.78x at 15% sharpness + DLSS quality, when these 2 work together you get super clean imagine without any jaggies at all. Some games so blurry it hurts eyes, no idea why devs don't see it as a problem.
Thanks Fr33thy! Definitely going to play with it and see what happens! I've been using (old) NVIDIA sharpening + monitor sharpening and it's decent enough. TAA shouldn't be in competitive games!
How is this grainy mess meant to look better than anti aliased image? How do you quickly spot movement when every single pixel on the screen is flickering? Serious question.
The flickering is effectively a better outline on a characters model versus a blurry image. Not to mention if a character is flickering it’s simple to understand you’ll be seeing the moving and still target easier.
The flickering is the result of the upscaling component (game not running at native) since the upscaling component of DLSS is broken with this method. If your game supports DLAA or you can override the DLSS quality modes to native using the advanced method you can fix that flickering. I would not ever use this method if I had to use upscaling because it looks even worse imo, but some people may still prefer it and thats their preference. I dont think anyone is trying to say its objectively better just that its what they prefer and they wish proper options were added so they didnt have to resort to such workarounds.
I think he might've been comparing DLSS vs this tweak, meaning hes comparing upscaling to native, instead of comparing DLAA to this method since this method forces the game to render at native, which would explain the FPS difference, but that is a more fair comparison. But I could be wrong about it. Just my guess. I didnt lose any FPS going from DLAA to modded DLSS
That's not shimmering, that's the jittering left over from DLSS's normal TAA pass. If you want no jittering then the best thing to do is to request a native AA off option be added to the game
@@hksgaming2991 They're frame rate generation methods, but "fake frames" essentially. Weirdly enough with my AMD 7900 card, It feels better to turn upscaling/sharpening off, cuts my FPS down to 200 instead of 400+ but it feels better somehow...
I don't think the tradeoff is worth it on a low end gpu like a 2060 especially in somewhat demanding titles like warzone due to already haveing low fps.
It looks worse because hes using 100% sharpness on an already sharp image, which creates sharpening artifacts and exacerbates other flaws in the image. I use it on 0% sharpness and get zero motion blur from forced TAA, perfectly clear and great visibility
The reason that TAA is so ubiquitous today is because most modern games use Deferred Rendering instead of Forward Rendering like they used to. Deferred Rendering is not well suited for MSAA and MSAA always had the disadvantage of not being able to clean up anything else but the edges of geometry. Also TAA in generally just plays really well with other modern techniques like screen space reflections and so on. So devs are not lazy, they're just using modern engines which are built around deferred rendering to deliver the best overall visuals, but if you are happier with an image full of noise and stair stepping then that's fine and i can see why you'd think like that. Just the take that devs are lazy because they use TAA, is like saying Display manufacturers are lazy for making LCD screens instead of CRTs. Most people will want to buy an LCD screen instead of a CRT because the overall advantages outweigh the disadvantages, even though it's by design worse in some areas.
I would have to disagree with you here, some what. If the game devs are not lazy why not give us an option to turn off AA? Why is it forced on and when we find a way to turn it off you can clearly see the graphic issues that TAA and AA hide. This trend started with bfv. Just my opinion though :)
You can disable taa in BFV through config, but it introduces other graphical issues, which is why it's not an option in the games settings. I'm all for options like you say tho for people who like no AA @@FR33THY
@@FR33THY That's a good point, i would also prefer to always have all the graphics option available with every game. I guess some development companies don't want to put in the time to do that or think that it's better for their players to keep the settings simple.
Nope. Fort uses an ancient version of DLSS and doesnt let you update it because they want their own TSR method to appear as superior as possible, its very deliberate.
That's not shimmering, thats the jitter component of DLSS still being active, all this method does is disable the frame blending that causes the blur and motion smearing. A proper AA off option wouldn't cause these issues and would look much better
