I've looked at this video about three times, got some few different parts, but look to do pretty much exactly the same thing, just more weight, and a slightly different clutch form, thanks for sharing this, nice, simple, effective. Can't ask for more than that!!

May be a hillbilly power hammer but it works and that is ok for an old country boy like me, I like it.

@@paulwheeler4893 cn you give me any dimensions? the designs i have been working on mostly come out too tall, requiring a post over six feet tall i have been planning to use a piece of 4" square steel 12 to 16" long (48 to 62 pounds) as my hammerhead, but I could change that. it look like you have a wooden post? under your bottom die rather than a massive chunk of iron or steel. how does that work out for you? I'd been thinking of using an 8x8 " steel bar about 22" high if i can get one. It would weigh 340 pounds but that is only 5 times the weight of a 62# hammerhead and 7 times the weight of a 48# head, and still an awkward hunk of steel to move around!
      thank You. Joe Smith

@@joesmith6199 hi, i measured it today and the mast is 8'3, " the anvil ( which is made of 4@ 3"x4"x45" steel bar welded together) is 45" plus the dies. the hammer ( which is 1 1/4" x 3" steel bar) is 41" plus the dies. the dies i have now are 3x3x5 1/2 stacked for the hammer and just one 2"x3"x5 1/2 4140 for the bottom. hope this helps you a little.

@@paulwheeler4893 Thank you! There are several designs on CZcams , different designs but same principal. i'd like to use a wooden poet 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 ; but that's partly because i thought it would be fun to wear a shirt that says "ask me about my Big Woody" and of course there's a picture of the hammer on the back. at the Minneapolis May Day parade they have the "battle train" , which look like something out of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, except it's pulled by a ten seat bicycle. Im thought it would be super cool to have a float with a woody hammer powered by two guys on bikes, with me at the forge and my lady in a figurehead pulpit playing her fiddle. probably a pipe dream...
