- In this video I have been given the very special opportunity to Metal Detect A Deserted Medieval Village (D.M.V). The village itself has been dated to the 1300's and once had many buildings, roads and A leat system.
Now set to lush green pasture, we will be spending the day here to try and uncover its secrets and find its lost history.

Wow another very fruitful day's detecting, lovely detail on the William 3rd sixpence, stonking Jetton and probably a Pilgrim's badge. You are becoming a bit of a banker, by which I mean you can bank on finding really interesting finds regularly! Love the drone footage and wish I was there too.

Lovely finds there. William 3rd 6 pence was really nice. I think you'll find that the 1938 penny was George V1. I was born in his reign!!! (lol). BTW: thanks very much for the shout out.
Ah yes John of course it was George 6th… I was a couple of years out! I sometimes although rarely watch this back and go “why did I say that” 😂 My dad was also born in his reign too, nothing wrong with that buddy 👍👍
The jetton is beautiful - a bit later than you think though I’m afraid. It’s a Tournai one and dating from the late 15th to early 16th century. 'Three circles badge of Tournai' type. Around the same time as the Nuremberg ones but much nicer!

Heya John buddy. It’s a difficult decision sometimes wether to show the junk bits in the final edit as most of them are completely trash however it is the reality of metal detecting so I guess it’s important to include some of them.
Also, I think that tractor was once red however UV has turned it pink in places but I doubt the farmer ever looks at it from a Birds Eye perspective 😂👍👍

Jettons weren’t gaming pieces by the way, they were used by merchants to count, also known as “reckoning counters”.
Yes thats what i have read
Comes from the french ( Jeton - to cast or throw)
Used for calculating taxes
They were used on a board with lines or a chequer board hence the term exchequer!
And also where the old fashioned term for casting your accounts ( filing)comes from,

I think i read that the earliest ones were english , Edward the 1st time late 13th c
And they were basically hammered coins with a hole through the middle! Not sure if they were silver though!?

The William 3rd silver would be a Sixpence they didn't do threepence. And I think you meant George 6th not George 5 with the penny 👍

collar stud used to clip goes at the back when collars where interchangeable

Ww2 started in 1939
The coin was minted in 1938 so it was in circulation during WWII, that’s what I meant buddy 👍👍
1938 is not WWII unless you count the Japansese China War..... which started in 1937....
Well it would have been in circulation during the conflict though so I guess that’s where I was coming from with that. I like you’re details though 👍👍
