This is a very useful video. It surprises me that the stain companies don't have this on their website Thank you for taking the time to upload this!
Thanks and you're welcome
this is great thank you I just made my first project with white oak
You're welcome, hope it comes out good
Thank you. Refinishing a old white oak desk. Still deciding but your video has given me some ideas that trumped my preconceived instincts.

Thank you ! Was at the box store trying to find a color of the Minwax and all I had to go on was the picture on the can but seeing your video I know now that I will be buying the Gunstock. I am staining my bartop which is made out of White Oak hardwood flooring. Perfect timing to see this video. Thanks again.

Very helpful - both this one and the red oak one. I have a new red oak grandfather clock that I'm assembling and will be staining this summer. I have it narrowed down to Golden Oak, Ipswich Pine and Golden Pecan. You have not shown the Golden Pecan, but it's very similar to the Ipswich Pine. Thanks again for the great videos!!
Thanks Dave for this!
You're welcome
We’re about to build a countertop with white oak. Thank you. Think I’m leaning towards Gunstock

I like the mahogany again lol. Thanks for sharing

very useful thanks. I'm using some recycled oak to make an entertainment unit and wanted a 'coastal/scandi' look so will try a natural stain but also cherry wood as I've decided a bit of a red tint would make more of the grain.
Thanks and you're welcome
Very helpful, thank you very much!

Thanks and you're welcome
Good vid. How can you tell if it is red or white oak?
White oak, has a tighter grain than red oak.
@@davethewoodworker1043 thanks

I have a l8ve edge white oak crotch. I'd like to do at least some kind of stain. Thanks.
Which of these colors would you recommend ? We are trying to match a bourbon barrel which is a yellowish tint with black age marks. Had a custom white oak 60 inch table top made and now trying to figure out a color to match. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Curious what you sanded to - 180, 220, higher? Also, curious why some of the boards seem to have two distinct sections; it really stands out on the steel wool and vinegar board.
I sanded with 220 and I put a tape line in the middle of each board. So half is stained one color, while the other half is another. The Steelwool & Vinegar board, the other half in plain, no stain
White oak feels like it's extremely hard to stain, feels like almost nothing changes the color of it
I think mine is too orange
Hi! Where can I buy steel wool color?
Thanks for the video! How long did you let the stain sit before wiping?
Well it varied, the Minwax stains, 15 minutes and the Rustoluem 5 minutes
Do you happen to have aged barrel minwax stain? Just wondering what it looks like on white oak. Thanks for doing these videos.
