  • A look back at 10 occasions where a Rangers player has got one over on a former club without any modern Football hands of apology or lack of celebration in sight.
Post Upload Note: As pointed out in the comments by Hylian Marc, Ryan Jack's goal at Hampden was erroneously credited as his first against Aberdeen, completely forgetting he'd scored against Aberdeen in 2019/20 in a 2-2 draw.
Noticed by myself would be the slight error reading back my notes on Kenny Miller's goals in his first stint, To clarify, he managed 8 in the League in his first season, the mentioned Champions League goal was one of a couple of others that make up 11 overall. Apologies folks,
Footage mostly taken from RTV although one entry required some from elsewhere, don't read on if you don't want spoilers but the sources are listed below.
Most late 80s footage came from RTV however it can be limited for the time period so the fantastic season review videos uploaded for history from @therangers1872 and @davywilson21 were invaluable for a significant portion of one entry.
    International goals for one entry

One particularly controversial entry from before my time required more research and opinions, for these I have to credit the Follow Follow forum where some excellent perspective came from www.followfollow.com/forum/th...
Similarly an article from the incredible website of @fourladshadadream offers more information on the subject

Could you just imagine if a signing like Mo Johnstone took place in the era of social media? The Super Scoreboard would have provided endless amounts of entertainment! 🔴⚪️🔵

Way back then, being the rebellious little shit that I was, I wouldn't have given a flying farkle if they'd signed Pope John Paul as long as he could find the net, or since he was a Goalie to trade, saved a last minute pen at the paedo-dome against THEM..!!🤣

Ahhhhh you're bang on the money man, that one had entirely slipped my mind.
CZcams is near impossible to make changes once a video is out so note going in the video description, good spot.

All good mate, I remember the game well since we started the first half hour great then threw away a 2-0 lead after half time 😂
      Excellent video regardless!

Maurice Johnstone was a great player. The joy he brought for himself scoring against his own beloved Celtic. That made me sit up and say I'm numb with surprise and although I like RANGERS it was still a surprise.

Kenny Miller's 2nd spell at Ibrox was by far his best.
He even got into a very good habit of scoring doubles against Celtic, much to Rangers fans delight especially when he had spent some time playing for the Parkhead club.

I will always remember Steven Whittaker's goal in Europe where he ran most of the pitch with the ball at his feet and scored an outstanding goal. Only him and Jean-Claude Darcheville scored that night for Rangers but it was enough.
Darcheville was something of a cult hero at Rangers, his style of play helped endear the Frenchman to the Ibrox crowd.

I'm gonna get in before anyone else on this correction!
Watched this back and realized I've misspoken when talking about Kenny Miller's goals in his first stint and the way its come out I've robbed him of a few goals. To clarify, he managed 8 in the League in his first season, the mentioned Champions League goal was one of a couple of others that make up 11 overall.
Had a bit of a shocker on this one to be honest!

Good video mate and I loved yer lie at the end that 99.9% of Rangers fans have no interest in religion, you are maybe right with the actual word, most aren't going to church anymore but there is very much a sectarian element, nowhere near as bad as the 80s and early 90s when Johnston signed but on Old Firm day there is a massive majority of fans who are 90 minute bigots myself included, things have changed though, our signing policy of course helped that, Souness and David Murray knew if we were to become Champions regularly and compete in Europe it had to and the signing of Mo was the first step to where we are now, imagine on that day when fans set fire to, and ripped up seasons tickets that we would have Lorenzo Amoruso as captain, players crossing themselves as they come on the park (too many to mention now) and even a Catholic manager in Pedro.
You notice it in the singing too, most of the songs when I had my season ticket late 90s to 2009, most were sectarian and mentioned UDA/UVF/Ulster etc, now most of the new songs don't and I do think even though we were always painted as the worst in the papers, probably down to the fact that we didn't sign Catholics and some of Celtics best players and managers including Jock Stein himself were Protestant - that Celtic are a lot worse than us, the bollocks statement used by BBC and the daily rags all the time that a 'small minority of Celtic fans sang IRA songs' is bullshit, you will still hear IRA chants home and away and in some games away from home it's the whole crowd.... people get their knickers in a twist though, I was a bigot back in the day and probably still a 90min bigot now, my family were all Rangers fans, in the lodge, friends all in flute bands etc but I ended up engaged to two Catholics lol so a lot of it is just singing anf after the game people singing up the ra, or up to yer knees then go home to someone of a different religion or hang about with the other sides fans.... Not on Old Firm day though!!
I can still remember the day Mo signed, I was a wee lad of about 7 and didn't really understand what religion was, I don't think I even knew any Catholics yet coming from (at the time) a mainly Protestant/Rangers village, my Grandad John Knox (Mum's Dad) was disgusted and even my Dad who was never a bigot because his Mum, my wee Nana Alice was born a Catholic, something I didnt even know about until my late teens, couldn't believe it and didn't want him there. But when he scored that goal v THEM, and celebrated like that, it changed everything!! - and let's be honest, at that time Mo was a special player. He scored 2 goals to beat France for Scotland before Italia 90, he played in France and if you watch footage from when we signed him which you can find on you tube of people discussing him join, from both sides of the divide one of the wee guys asked makes a great point 'if your gonna sign a catholic you might as well get the best one' - some of the comments seem crazy in this day and age though so I do agree things have changed, people saying they wouldn't go back to Ibrox and Celtic fans threatening his life.
As for other moments, love Ryan Jack, always have, if it wasn't for injuries I truly believe he would have been captain and is a better player than McGregor at Celtic and should play every game for Scotland, to see him grab the badge v the Sheep is special but the main person on this video is Kenny, on it twice, scored loads v Hibs but its his goals v Celtic that made him a favourite for me. I always rated him when he was at Hibs and thought he was unlucky to leave first time round. I couldn't believe he joined Celtic and when he celebrated like that against us I absolutely hated him and when it was announced he was coming back I was disgusted... we should never doubt Walter eh, and he proved with goal after goal v THEM that he was a top player. Looking back now, like Mo before him, many Celtic fans didn't like him or want him at their club, he scores v Rangers and in his mind he probably thinks by joining Celtic there is no way he will ever return to Rangers so he celebrates to win over the doubters. Certainly not condoning it, I could never celebrate v Rangers (I don't mean for Celtic, because in no circumstances would I stick that jersey on) but I do get it a bit more now and Kenny is a favourite of mines now (in recent era anyway) - Anyway fuck the pope HAHA
