  • Mixing Hyaluronic Acid
    Hyaluronic acid is a natural polysaccharide (large sugar molecule) that occurs in various tissues (skin, synovial fluids of joints, connective tissues). Responsible for tissue hydration, lubrication, & tissue stability, holds 500 times its own weight of water. In skin care it is a powerful moisturizer & humectant that provides smoothness & softening to the skin. Can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
    We carry two different types:
    -High Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid (HMW HA)
    -Super Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid (SLMW HA).
    The High Molecular HA will create a thick gel and 2-3% is probably the maximum concentration you can dissolve.
    The Super Low Molecular HA will stay a liquid to slightly viscous solution even at 8% concentration. Its advantage is that a higher concentration can be incorporated into formulations. However if you're looking for added viscosity and a concentration between 1- 2% is fine then the HMW HA is the one to use.
    We're going to show you how to dissolve the HMW Hyaluronic Acid. In order to mix this fine powder with water you will need a stick blender, sheer mixer or homogenizer.
    This video shows how to make a 2% Hyaluronic Acid concentration using HMW HA.
    Step 1: Add 98.8g / 3.55oz of distilled water and 1.2g of Phenoxyethanol-SA to a disinfected glass beaker.
    Step 2: Sprinkle 2g / 0.07oz HMW HA into the water. Mix well using a stick blender.
    Step 3: The solution becomes very thick.
    Step 4: Keep mixing until there are no visible lumps.
    Step 5: If you want to keep this mixture, as a stock solution, add a preservative such as phenoxyethanol or benzyl alcohol.
    Ingredients used:
    Distilled Water
    HMW Hyaluronic Acid
    Phenoxyethanol-SA

    after blending, hyaluronic acid loses its properties and, above all, its viscosity. The acid should not be mixed faster than 300 RPM because it breaks the long acid bonds and must not exceed 35 degrees at any time because it also leads to the breakdown of bonds.
    2% hyaluronic acid should have a viscosity of about 20-100 times higher than honey (depending on what honey viscosity we take ranges from 2Pa to 10Pa). Your ... something will not help more than pure water

    The blending was on fleek haha... hopefully the long molecular chain of the HLA stays intact after being treated so aggressively. :'D
    Also I have been taught that more than 1% by volume HLA has the opposite effect on the skin, ie instead of being a super effective moisturiser and humectant, it starts to draw moisture FROM the skin which is obviously the opposite effect we want.

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  Před 7 lety +6

      Most of the time a 2% HA (high molecular weight) solution will be used as a stock solution and added to a formulation at a certain percentage - so it will be diluted greatly and not be used on the skin as is. When used at the skin as is, it may flake off due to the high concentration, it works best when mixed with other ingredients or mixed into a formulation.

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  Před 3 lety

      Regular Hyaluronic acid (www.makingcosmetics.com/Hyaluronic-Acid_p_161.html) is a bit tricky to integrate into a base. It does not readily dissolve in water but needs to be carefully sprinkled into some water first under constant high-speed stirring (preferably with a hand mixer or vortex mixer). Typical concentration is at 0.1 - 2% of HA. The mixture starts then thickening quickly and becomes a gel. At that point no additional HA can be added as there is no water left for HA to be dissolved in (additional HA would only form lumps). Only this gel can then be added to the serum.

  • @Makingcosmetics
    @Makingcosmetics  Před 6 lety +1

    Depending on the composition of the cream or serum, I'd try to add about 5-10% but not more as the emulsion of the cream could be destabilized.

    • @lamebrainiac377
      @lamebrainiac377 Před 8 lety +3

      HA serum without a preservative will only last a matter of hours, and possibly 48 hours. The high molecular weight of HA will penetrate the epidermis (top layer of skin), but it's a slow process. The low molecular weight is costly and, as far as I can tell, I don't believe it worth the cost. The actual Dalton number is not so important as the labeling of High Molecular Weight and Low Molecular Wright. Where did you get the info that claims HA will irritate if its MW is too small? You can check out the Dalton difference of HA that Making Cosmetics sells.

If your goal is less viscosity we suggest to use 1% Hyaluronic Acid, if you like to keep it at 2% we suggest to use SLMW HA (low molecular weight) which doesn’t increase the viscosity much. HMW and SLMW Hyaluronic acids can also be combined to find the viscosity that works best for your formulations.

      Depends on how clean your work and what the water quality is, but typically 9-18 months.

    Hello, can you place tell me how I can mix this acid in my body cream?.
    Thank you

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  Před 5 lety +1

      Hyaluronic acid needs to be carefully sprinkled into some water first under constant high-speed stirring (preferably with a hand mixer or vortex mixer). Typical concentration is at 0.1 - 2% of HA. The mixture starts then thickening quickly and becomes a gel. At that point no additional HA can be added as there is no water left for HA to be dissolved in (additional HA would only form lumps). Only this gel can then be added to the serum or cream.

      I am a layman's ,
      to my knowledge two different type of moisture are there , water base & oil base ( oils are always uses as massage ) but HO is water soluble & it can absorb water ( not oil ) into skin & so not to be mixed with oil . Body cream has Vaseline base with added oils. body lotion are moisturizer which can protect ( block the skin from ) toward external elements whereas HO absorb moisture into the skin. So it is wise to use both as separate parts one & part two ( oil block water absorption into / out of the skin )

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  Před 7 lety +1

      You have to determine the weight of the batch you're making then add between 1.0-1.5% of phenoxyethanol/SA by weight and blend well.

    Hi. My hyaloronic acid power is not desoliving in water. What could be the reason of that?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  Před 4 lety

      High-molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) does not readily dissolve in water as it binds water very quickly. Thus, HA needs to be carefully sprinkled into the water under constant high-speed stirring (preferably with a hand mixer or vortex mixer). Typical concentration is at 0.1 - 2% of HA (1g of HA and 100ml of water). The mixture starts then thickening quickly and becomes a gel. At that point no additional HA can be added as there is no water left for HA to be dissolved in (additional HA would only form lumps).

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  Před 4 lety

      You'd have to use a different form of hyaluronic acid (www.makingcosmetics.com/Hyaluronic-Acid-SLMW_p_162.html) if you don't want to make a gel but a watery solution.
