Lyrics:
You were told to swallow crawl and hide
Victims of fear and deception
Get ahold of yourself rise above
The better part of you, immortal
May this purple spring flow into your soul
Exhausting all these black holes inside
Wake up to the sound of doom!
Let this chant ring in your bones and lift you up
Get strong
Leave the mud behind and climb up the sky
Wake up to the sound of doom!

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
Imagine the entire crowd singing this together at the beginning of their show like Metallica uses the ecstasy of gold. Dying to see them live again.
very good idea. Next show we shall try it!
The chanting part is sitting in my head constantly since the release. I suppose that people will just naturally try to humm it while Gojira will be playing :D

This album will be amazing

It's been very diverse so far. Looking forward to Grind and The Sphinx. I just have a good feeling about those songs, they're going to SLAM
Gojira with a dedicated solo and Joe’s soft vocals? Love it
I wonder who the backing vox are or if it's just him?
This is amazing. This is a gojira song we ghave all need.
Magma feel ..this song is amazing
I love gojira but this song is not good...like at all
@@rippindrummer666 all opinion I guess but I could easily zone out listening to this, its a vibe and a half!
Can we all take a moment to acknowledge Jean-michel as the unsung hero of this album? His bass fills add so much depth to every song they've released thus far
Been thinking this lately. The bass in the last two albums have been great. My especial favorite being the outro of Grind.
Fuck me, first we had choruses, then cleans and now The Chant gifts us a guitar solo? What is this madness?
I'm going to be humming this chant all bloody day now!
They leveled up!
Dont forget the boing
i know! right? its like they finally wanted to sound like all the other bands, awesome! now new listeners can come from much higher places ($rich$ places)
@@evilbread8771 Or like they wanted to shift their musical focus while retaining the things that make them unique? Funny how that works.
Not gonna lie, thousands of people singing to this would actually be awesome live
so true
That was definitely part of the intent
Joe said this about The Chant in a recent Kerrang interview: “Usually we write songs to destroy the crowd, this was an attempt at something to bring them together”
Agree to disagree

Indeed
it's the amazonians chanting and dancing to the shooting star that is crossing the sky
Good observation! It's that chugging palm muting in the verses I'm hearing as the connection.

They released half of the álbum before the official release. They are more anxious than us
They’ve been sitting on it almost a year
I would complain, but that wouldn’t ease my excitement for this album.
Wish more bands would go this route
I'm so glad they did! Was gonna preorder but this album isn't for me.
Or maybe they just excited for it. Like opening a present before Christmas yk?
The trasition from Fortitude to The Chant is wayy too smooth. I immediately got chills the first time I heard it
ce groupe est le frisson incarné :)
That guitar solo is making me question reality.
Do whales even fly? Are whales even real? Is Joe really angry? Is LaBadie really happy? Is Mario really evil? Does Boing really boing?
There are other gojira songs with solos
@@v616sirius my guy I don't know alot, but I do know that boing definitely boings. So don't worry!
@@marlborosmoker666 ahaha so true.
something tells me that you came from whaleposting hahaha
@@v616sirius but not this elaborate
I am at peace knowing Gojira is just doing what they like to do. This doesn't remotely sound like commercial music, it's more accessible but not more commercial. Everyone seems to forget Gojira had softer songs on every single one of their albums, and as they evolve, they'll keep working towards newer sounds.
No one can deny songs like Into the Storm or Amazonia weren't some great songs
Well said.. they’ve been diverse and experimental all along, and now they feel even more freedom to do whatever they want.
@@thoronthol1175 I think they've always had that freedom, but in my honest, truly honest opinion. They have less freedon from the pressure from fans they've accumulated from the last 10 years. Their fanbase as we speak always complains now, and before, they were never really such a big worry as it is now
@@VicSellsPeace true. We’ve all seen a tendency for people to,want them to remake their old music in a new form, and yes that does create it’s own pressure. And, their new music is anticipated by a wider audience than many other metal bands. So to see them evolve under that pressure and still produce excellent music is incredible.
@@thoronthol1175 Exactly, very true
I don't who is this "everyone" you're reffering to, but most people in the comments seem to disagree with them, and agree that is song is cool :D
interesting how there is no stress when you are listening to gojira
IS THAT A GUITAR SOLO?? Fortitude is really something else man
That's very new for Gojira
It threw me off so much in all the right ways
There were guitar solos technically in magma and Mars to Sirius and believe it or not terra incognita
Gojira breaking the boundaries of being Gojira again.
Sounds like metallica inspired from the 80s
Guitar solos? Cowbell? Incredible soft vocals? This song feels like a dream.
Bad one
@@mericardayilmaz yep
Cowbell means this is automatically good, not that it was necessary to use this joker.

Probably the most peaceful track they've ever released, it soothes the soul and helps me relax 😊
True, it's uplifting but it's also really energizing to me! Never heard anything like this. Gojira is just something else. If I ever hear this live my heart is going to explode
I'm glad that they're opening the door a bit stylistically and they're breaking out of the 'everything has to be violently heavy' trap that a lot of bands fall into. Honestly it's nice to see a band recognise their own unique sound and take it in a direction that isn't defined by what people expect from them.
Variety is the spice of life you know?
Not just that. They kept the elements which are recognizable. They balanced it so good.
I agree. I wouldn't particularly say that this is the first time we have seen this experimentation though. The last few releases have been very different to their original heavy sound in terms of variety of sounds
What is the last time Gojira was "violently heavy" rofl
@@francoistoutee3423 it’s been 17 years since they were last “violently heavy” 😂
@@daddydawn1653 You don't think The Way of All Flesh was a face-kicker of an album? 🤨

I thought you were talking about dir en grey for a second :-O (I'm living my best life with them both releasing stuff)
When you experiment in your sound and it ACTUALLY works
This is a great example of how vocalists can sing great. And still make heavy screaming vocals without damage. That harmony in Joe's voice is great.
he knows how to properly use his voice
Too right. The Cell is probably my favorite example of his amazing vocals. So powerful!
They are gonna release the whole album in singles before it comes out, not that I can complain about that
That's what Metallica did for their Hardwired album.

@@geokalaigeokalai3185 uninspired ? , it’s very catchy ,the song set a mood and a feeling with joe’s vocals , very harmonious ,the solo works nicely , the drums are simple and serve the song , far from being uninspired to me, especially for a song meant to be inspiring

100% agree. As long as it doesn't take up to much of the setlist on the upcoming shows, though.
you just want them to keep the death metal thingy right? right. Boring
I dig it. Super calming and sounds like a happier version of shooting star
Absolutely one of this band's masterpieces. Does anybody else notice how this song just drops in? Imagine how the hell we're going to get here in the context of listening to the album as a whole. This song is gonna get dropped on us like a bomb and I can't wait to hear how it gets there.
Gojira is love Gojira is life
Love the stoner metal vibes, the solos especially remind me of another french band Mars Red Sky. Such a jam, this will be a great track live!
The song and the video made me cry hard.
Even though it’s not heavy it’s still amazing, the chorus is awesome. I think they’re saving all the heavy stuff for when the album releases
The reviews said there are some heavy bangers there with growls reminicent of the way of all flesh.
