Thanx for the review, I just purchased the r4 a few weeks back. I was looking at the r3 super hard because of the performance and price point. I just so happened to see a few upgrades for the future to the r4 that made me purchase it. The r3 has a legacy of exceptional performance and is still a great detector IMO.
I have the R4 and it saves my a$$ almost daily. 100% of the time it saw road pirates before they saw me.
you should buy a mirror tap, takes like 2 minutes to install and hides most of the cable.
Thanks for this review. Have you had any issues with the suction cups holding? A lot of ones I've had before have started to fall off shortly after I got them.
Been driving r3 for 5 yrs now will upgrade one day
5 years for me too. Still a great detector no plans to upgrade .
Just bought one after having a Cobra. The Cobra did well except it kept shutting itself off due to "Warning: Low Car voltage". I have a Nissan Titan and the Cobra never stayed on after 10 minutes. I also drive an Audi S8 and it worked 95% of the time with the Audi but eventually I had the same car voltage problem. I decided to purchase the R3 and I hope I have better results.
Have the R3 and R4 prefer the R4 since the recent firmware updates, both will give you ample warning most of the time.
You get more range mounting it higher when you mount it lower it detects laser better but if you get hit with laser there’s no saving you at that point
Does great with radar but my Waze gets the laser almost all the time. Would never speed alone or early in the morning before the Wazers wake up.
Is this r3 working in Europe? Has it any database?
