Excellent review thanks for helping me make the decision
Thank you and you’re welcome! Glad the video helped.
Thanks for the review, it was excellent
You’re welcome & thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Tapo have some amazing features.
Agreed!
I recently bought one and paired it with sandisk high endurance sd card.
I set the detection only for vehicle, person and camera tampering to maximize the SD card memory.
Good call.
Hi, thanks for video. One question - on how many devices I can install this software, to control one camera?
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching….no limit. You create an account & then use that account to sign in on any device that offers the app.
Great thanks. Where/what did you plug the power brick into? Did you run it through you attic?
I live in an apartment. I don’t have an attic. For testing purposes, I went straight to a protected outdoor power outlet.
@@GeorgeLangabeer Gotcha, thanks. It does look like a pretty flimsy little transformer doesn't it?
Does it allow/support the RTSP/ONVIF profile(S) protocols, to stream the camera from NAS/NVR/PC via RTSP/ONVIF?
In other words can you have it monitored in a wall or tiled view showing several cameras?
Check out this link:
www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2680/
Yes. Under advanced. Just set a password and point the app to the IP port 2020
I am using RTSP/ONVIF with this and other Tapo cameras in several installations - works great.
This protocol isn't secure so be sure to use good security on the wifi if you are using it wireless.
Great video. Is there a chance to bring this Tapo Camera into HomeKit through Homebridge or Scrypted? (That would eliminate at least on con.) I like the camera but I want to view all camera feeds in just one app or dashboard. Looking forward to more content .
Thank you! I haven’t personally tried it with this specific camera, but I do know under the advanced settings section of the camera (on the app), you can set up a “camera account”. On other TP Link cameras I’ve tried, if you set that up, it allows you to use their cameras with third party apps with RTSP.
Here is a TP Link article on the subject:
www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2680/
I have a bunch of Tapo cameras linked to HomeKit via Scrypted, and they work absolutely perfect!
Nice!
Thank you.I need to install this camera in a place where there is no internet. Is it possible to record on the SD card even if the camera is not connected to the internet? Obviously after having done an initial configuration of the camera via app
Unfortunately not.
I have many Tapo Cameras, and, answering your question, yes it is. I don't know why Mr. George's answer was a no. You cannot access the camera through the app without internet, but the camera will still record. You will need to remove the sd card to access the footage.
I apologize, I think my response here was to someone commenting on a different video. Sometimes I respond to several video comments at the same time & I try to check myself and not mix them up, but this one fell through the cracks. @mandumetheking is absolutely correct. It is possible. But yes, you will have to remove the SD card to view the footage. So sorry for the confusion.
Get yourself the 320WS and pair it together with this and you have a perfect security pair. Differences are the 320WS has line crossing, area intrusion whereas the 520WS doesnt but has other functions. You need both a fixed and a P&T in a proper security situation.
Doesnt it have line crossing? The 510W has and its basically the same thing
yeah he literally said in the video that you can do line crossing but ok guess you didn't watch it
@@skysoft6996 510W has motion, person and camera. 520WS has motion, person, pet, vehicle, line and camera. I have the 500, 510 and 520. I use the 520's vehicle and person to automate lights without my dogs creating false activations and also to detect and track monkeys on my roof. 510 used mostly for person detection for light activation. 500 and 510 in terms of functionality are the same except 510 has higher resolution. You cant really use the 360 cams for line detections because those lines will move with the POV.
@@skysoft6996 dont think you get it. Think about how useless line crossing is on a P&T camera that is always moving. You need the POV to not move or the detection area will always be different.
I know this is somewhat apples and oranges but did you find this more reliable than the C125 you reviewed a couple weeks ago? I just returned 2 of those yesterday because they kept dropping offline/no response. These were going in baby/toddler rooms and no way they were getting spouse approval with poor connectivity. I have access points in the rooms so it makes no sense. And yeah I agree bummer on no HomeKit support for this one. Great video man, thanks for what you do.
Very strange. I’m still using the C125 & I’ve had zero issues. I’ve found it to be a great camera. I also have several customers who have the C125 and they all love it. Did you troubleshoot with their tech support? If it’s happened with two of them (ruling out you have a bad camera), it has to be a network issue & those are usually solvable.
The two cameras are comparable feature wise, the C520WS is just built more durable since it’s made for outdoors.
Hi when you point this camera to the sky at night, does it pick up the stars really well?
This camera has great resolution, but it’s not going to pick up the stars really well.
OK, I have a Beenozo 8X hybrid cam and it does pick up lots of stars but i'm looking for a camera with a higher framerate. This Tapo looked like a good candidate.
Hi can you do a video on the eufy S340 please.
From Eufy? I already did. A few weeks ago.
Hello. I have this exact unit and I’m facing an issue whereby The device shows orange light. It still records events but I cannot access the camera from my phone unless I connect to house wifi. If I use data or external wifi it shows camera is offline. Can you advise what I can do ?
I’d contact Tapo customer support:
www.tapo.com/us/support/
do I need to go full 512gb or a 128gb sd card will do?
Any of those will do.
Sir what is the difference between tapo c510 w and tapo 520 ws ??
520 is 4 Megapixel Vs. 510 is 3 Megapixel. More analytic (detection) options on the 520 & the 520 has an RJ45 connector (for power) & the 510 does not. A couple other small differences, but those are the big ones.
@@GeorgeLangabeer Thanks for replying
which one is best tapo c200 vs xiaomi 360 vs imou vs ezviz
Tapo C200
What about sound quality of camera on two way audio mode how long we listen the sound from speaker and how long camera mic listen our voice. Dude Plz Help !! I also want to buy this
The sound quality is about average. You’re never going to find a really good speaker on these WiFi cameras. It just doesn’t exist.
@@GeorgeLangabeer thanks buddy !!
You’re welcome!
What SD Card are best for C520ws. Can you suggest
This is the one I use:
amzn.to/3SVKxS1
Tnq
I recommend sandisk high endurance micro sd
can it still record when i exit the app?
Yes it can.
So you believe that this Tapo camera is now better than the Eufy 340? And how does POE work since Tapo doesn't have a base station?
I give this camera the edge because of the price difference. Quite a bit less expensive than the 340.
As far as you POE question, that’s my bad. As a camera guy, I’m just used to thinking in terms of POE with those ethernet ports. It’s not though, that connector is for a direct internet connection, not POE.
Hi, this cam is not wifi 5G?
I bought one and the 5G networks don't appear, I need a ethernet c!cable :(
Are you talking about 5Ghz or 5G (cellular)?
Only 2x2 Wifi 4.
With regards with apple home, I think manufactures need to pay apple for the licence... Which inturn drives up the price of the unit...
When you read all the negative reviews on this camera on amazon you become apprehensive on purchasing the camera. Is it the user or the camera?
Not sure which camera you’re looking at on Amazon, but this camera has 4.4 stars (out of 5) on Amazon (reviews). So?????
2k is nice but thats only live or? Save to sd storage is reduced to 720 is it 2k in tapocare? So picuturequality on stored videos that I think are most interesting in a surveillance point of view is poor? Think it will be hard having good readings of licence plates with 720? Another thing to think of is that only the camera is ip66 not the poweradapter itself but it should of course have been too. To use the camera outside safely the poweradapter should have been ip66 too, but u actually have to buy and put it inside a ipxx proof box not to shortcut in heavy rain and moisture. I DO Like the line crossing feature but missing LPR licence plate recognition. Have u tested some LPR cameraes too?
Tapo gives you options. It can be 2K live or recorded. I wouldn’t do a review on a camera that only had a 720p option. It wouldn’t be worth my time in 2024.
Nest is pretty much the only brand that makes a weatherproof power cord & it’s unfortunate they are the only one.
License plates are never going to be guaranteed. I don’t care what the resolution is. Capturing License plates is all about angle & conditions. If all the above don’t line up it’s not happening. LPR cameras are a huge waste of money for a house. LPR cameras are designed for a controlled environment under controlled conditions. I have used several LPR cameras in a business setting. But you’ll never see me review one, because they don’t make sense on a house & my videos are geared for homeowners.
I love this camera, EXCEPT, it is not HomeKit compatible. Why ignore such an important feature?
Tapo is getting more and more HomeKit friendly. More coming in 2024…but I’m really not sure why they left it off of this one.
Dropcam was the best ever and then Google/Nest ruined it.
Dropcam was great for its time.
