Tim Buckley - Anonymous Proposition (Isolated Live Vocal)

  • An attempt to isolate Tim's vocals from this performance at The Troubadour, inspired by Lee Underwood's account in 'Blue Melody' of the famous Carnegie Hall performance in the same year:
"To this day I have not heard another performance that matched the intimacy, melodic range, and musical beauty of that song and the way he sang it. 'Anonymous Proposition' had appeared on Lorca, but at Carnegie he sang it by himself, no group, no 12-string guitar, just him and his voice, radiant in the spotlight on one of the world's most revered stages, holding notes higher and longer and with greater strength and conviction and beauty than I had ever heard."

Hypnotic ... It echoes straight on your soul.
I wonder by the way if this Carnegie Hall concert was recorded...
It's also exciting to know there are still some songs from Buckley nobody has heard before, which hopefully will see the light; I stumbled on a set list of a performance few weeks ago, with a song from the same year (1969) called "Down on the Bayou"

Yeah, I'm only aware of two shows that are out there but haven't got a release yet. One from 1970 which also includes an interview on KPFK radio, and Canterbury House 1968. I don't get why it has to take 50+ years for all these to get releases though...

@@thegregchadwick I don't get it either; same as why we get to hear so few of Buckley's heritage when artists of the same era, playing on the same stages, have more material brought to public access.
Can't wait for the starstailor recording though, it can be very interesting finally to appreciate some clean stuff from this era... Didn't know about the other one, thanks for the information

It would be even more an event to discover some of Buckley's tv appearances, if some of them are still out there ...

@@zarthus8545 I've been trying to figure out whether the American Bandstand appearance exists at all because there are a few shows about from around the same time with other artists, but it seems unlikely to surface at this point

Phenomenal! Its clear that side 2 of Lorca comes from the Troubadour live sets, and I've often wondered if Side 1 was the same.
I might be missing where it says this, but where does this come from?

Hi, this was taken from the Venice Mating Call album so was also part of those Troubadour recordings

@@thegregchadwick Cheers. I do own that, but hearing it isolated threw me!
The version of Driftin' on that set is the same as the album version if I recall correctly.
Interesting to hear you say there are at least two other unreleased concerts - I presume as in not even widely circulated as boots?
A shame as if one is a radio concert the quality might be better than most! And a 1970 concert would be gratefully received - not that I would sniff at the '68 Canterbury House show. I love how you can chart Tim's incredible progression across 68 from the March concerts to the European Oct/Nov performances

@@leipherd8118 Yeah, they don't exist in digital form at all from what I know. They haven't been shared online at least. You can read some more about the 1970 one in particular on this forum, starting at the bottom of this page:

@@thegregchadwick yeah, thanks for reminding me about the Canterbury House haul - two years of COVID had me forget!
I hope they get all of those tapes out there - particular love for any David Ackles or Richie Havens they have!
As for the 1970 show, just wow - 364 days before I was born! Looks like it may well see the light if day though. Hope for both of these, rather than something hoarded by a private collector.
