So for weeds growing between pavers or in this rock driveway, pour a little and I mean little amount of boiling water or water the temp for making coffee on the weeds and take care of your problem. Cooked weeds dont grow. Cooked weed seed does not sprout. Cooked roots do not create plants. This technique will kill all plants in a plant bed, so do not use there. But for all pavement cracks or intended pavement, this will work. It takes a little time but generally weeds gone in a week after pouring once.

Landscape rock will be a haven for weeds no matter if you install landscape fabric or not. Worse, of course, if you have no barrier. Go for a more permanent hard scape, even if you have to put it off because of the expense. I did use landscape fabric first on my pathway to my patio and I got grass, weeds and ant hills coming up through it. I had to resort to a strong dose of weed and ant killer spray. I made a feature area on the bend of my pathway and that I had to redo. The pathway was made this spring. What a nightmare! I had to wash the rocks through a piece of screen and this time I laid down a triple layer of fabric, sprayed it with the bug and weed killer and put the white rocks back down with some new ones on top for a thicker layer of rock. Hopefully this time is a charm. I never had done a landscape project before and had watched a number of videos first. Removing the 6” deep layer of sawgrass was a killer job but it was was worth the effort! I get compliments from my neighbors and visitors all the time. If I had it to do over though, I would have tripled the fabric along the whole path instead of having to resort to the sprays.

Garden fabric is pure shit, unless you’re using it under Rocky surfaces. Green and gardens are not it

There are far better ways to landscape an area than the, IMO, unattractive type of rock shown in this video. Landscape fabric is a bad choice environmentally for anyone concerned with soil health, no matter what covers it. It’s convenient in situations where no in ground growing is ever envisioned, such as pathways around nursery benches. Ditch the plastic.

@@CletusEinstein, check out Charles Dowding’s CZcams channel. Wood chips make an excellent mulch which is very inexpensive or free if you get them in bulk from an arborist.

Bottom line is weed fabric, while not perfect, is the best way to go. The benefits outweigh the risks. Also makes it easier to move the rock later if needed.

Define weed fabric. High quality landscape fabric absolutely does not work. Weeds and especially Bermuda will come right through the fabric.
