Dino Pappous to be honest Alfa has been producing terrible cars for the last 15 years, now it seems radically changed. They've realized they were about to fail. New Alfa cars are very good cars. Remember the task force who worked on new cars: Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa, FIAT Racing... They do have good engeeners and mechanics there, no doubt.

Such a great video! Love my Alfa giulia qaudrifoglio. Before I bought one I test drove the manual version. Felt great, but the automatic transmission with the paddle shifters just felt that much better. Probably because that was the gearbox the car was designed around. I’ve had that same engine light issue come up before. It was very weird cause it came up at very random times. Most days I could be flooring it all the time and it would be fine, while others it would just randomly shut me out of race mode after the first acceleration. I also thought it had to do with the fuel pump because it felt like the engine was getting hung up on something for a millisecond and then freaked out a little. Took it to the dealership a few times to try and fix it. They tried a few software updates, and in the end they replaced the fuel pump and did one more big update specially designed to fix this problem, and since then it’s been absolutely fine. Still drive this car every day, and still makes me smile as much as it did the first time I drove it.

And good to hear the problems are solved aswell. And about the gearbox..even though I never drove the ZF one, I can only imagine it should be great and makes it a bit of a different car. I would guess mainly because of the 8 gears, so there’s less lag and the car/engine is just “snappier”. I’m glad you enjoy it every day, like you’re supposed to!👊😁
      Thanks man!!😃

PureDriveTV Definetly less lag, and the paddles are just so nice to use. Love the fact that they are solid aluminium and that they are collum mounted (unlike the BMW’s). It makes it so satisfying going through the gears. Basically never take it out of race and manual mode for that brilliant noise and constant fun.

Why did you set the suspension to mid setting in race mode on the track? I can see the middle of the mode selector was white, when it's red that's the firm option.
Regarding the check engine light issue. These cars have 2 fuel tanks both sides and there is a pump to balance them out. When the car is low on fuel (it signs amber on the dash) in long fast corners one of the tanks could run out of fuel and you get the check engine light.

    • @PureDriveTV
      @PureDriveTV  Před 4 lety +1

      L PETER Very sharp!👀😉👌
The first day I had it on the hard setting, but within one lap the malfunction occurred. The second day I decided to test it on the mid setting because of some quite bumpy sections at Zandvoort. But then again the malfunctions occurred and I got quite distracted by that, so I didn’t test the difference between the 2 suspension modes. I’m still not sure if the hardest setting would be the fastest at this track..
About the fuel: I started every time with a full tank. I understand the corner/fuel problem with road cars without a surge tank, but this is the first road car that gave me problems after only 6 laps. The tank was still 3/4 full. Actually, this is the first road car giving me any problems at the track regardless the amount of laps..🙈

I found out later that the dealership never change the oil filter because the air conditioner pump covered the oil filter and you had to remove the pump to change the filter. Everyone talks about how Alfa is not perfect and it is flawed in some ways, well yes it is. But look at BMW for example, it does not have those flaws but still not perfect either. Maybe you do not get those squeaky dashboard, nor cheap plastics in some places, but you get a car that looks just good outside, also very cold looking inside compared to Alfa, and one of the most important things of all: you are a BMW driver, which in many parts of the world is not a very cool thing.
No car is perfect and at the end it all comes to personal preferences and which compromises you want to take so there is no right or wrong. And that is where 99% of ignorant press folks makes mistake when saying that Alfa is flawed compared to BMW, Mercedes, or even worse Audi. Yes it is, the same as any other car, it just depends of your point of reference.

Clarkson tested the automatic, that has huge paddles just like a ferrari and turbo lag is not an issue, just like in a ferrari. In fact the engine is 100% ferrari, and the car was 100% developed by ferrari engineers. Thats why everyone except you says it feels like a four door ferrari. And probably this one doesnt because its a manual and ferraris are NOT.

q p Why did you go there?🤦‍♂️ I drive all these kind of cars on racetracks for work. And I don’t mean this filming stuff, this is just hobby. Or you believe me, or you believe “everyone”. Because “everyone” is always correct, right..? Ask Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, Mark Cuban, Richard Branson...
Ferrari also has Sunglasses and watches and t-shirts. They don’t feel like any Ferrari car at all. So not everything (even though it’s a car) that Ferrari touches actually feels like a real Ferrari car. Trust me, the Alfa does NOT feel like any Ferrari. Not in a million years.
PS. The most valuable Ferrari’s are manual.
I’m a racing driver, instructor and coach. You won’t believe how easy elderly ladies who want to get their racing licence drive in the latest automatic Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, Porsches etc. Everyone who gets in is directly fast. Only the last few seconds are difficult. Get in a 1970 sportscar, lets see who’s able to go around the track fast. I thought and hoped that racing or driving a car fast was a “big balls” and “hero’s” thing? But I guess you rather see automatics taking over? So fast driving becomes so easy, that it won’t be even special anymore. But hey...it’s all about how fast your automatic cab shift and you can just sit back, do nothing and enjoy. Dude, I really don’t see the fun in that. But hey, personal preference hey🙏

Well you are in minority my manual friend. Or you think Clarkson hasnt driven a ferrari ? Well I can assure you he had, probably many more than you, and so did all the others who claim its a 4 door ferrari. That doesnt mean it DRIVES like a mid engine ferrari, because it is not. Its a 4 door ferrari saloon. A saloon which is faster than the 430 Scuderia, and as fast as a F12 on the Ring, and that has over 700 hp. That means this 4 door ferrari has a much better chassis than a 2 door front engined ferrari, and also than the mid engine scuderia. It is almost as good as a 458, which is mid engined and has 70 hp more. But of course it doesnt drive like a 458, because it is a totally different car in concept. In the same way that a front engined ferrari doesnt drive like a mid engine ferrari. The 458 and F12 are totally different cars to drive, but they both FEEL like ferraris, because they are developed by ferrari. And so does the Giulia QV..

Yes, the autoshifts are way faster etc..already for more than 10 years.
But do you prever to text dirty with your girlfriend for 2 minutes or the real deal for 2 hours?
It’s not all about speed. I’d rather go from 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds where I have to do everything myself, than go from 0-100 in 3 sec where a computer does everything for me. Where’s the fun in that? More and more things are getting automated and the driver is not an important factor anymore. Try to go fast in a 1970’s sportscar. If you’re skilled enough, than that pleasure/satisfaction is way bigger than sitting in a Tesla and the only thing you do is hit the accelerator and you’re at 100 km/h in about 0,3 sec or whatever.. Where’s the human challenge?
IF you like soccer... Do you rather play it in real life or on a Playstation? There is no wrong answer here, because it’s always personal preference. But there should always be a choice. And it’s to bad that the manual is disappearing, because there are still enough petrolheads which prefer the manual.
I don’t want to make you throw up again...😅😜
