For your question of why there is no pavement there, I can see 2 possibilities: 1. Adjusting the road plan after the pipes were laid: Moving the pipes that the drain drains into is expensive, so when a road is moved a little or (this happens a lot where I live) the road is narrowed to make the pavement wider, the drain remains in the original location but a bit off the road, a bit on the road (obviously changing the drain type to something else from here) or with an indent in the pavement edge. 2. Using natural soaking: Maybe if it rains a little, it would be better if that rain ended up in the groundwater rather than as quickly as possible diverted to a river, to help local plants and to decrease pressure on the wastewater treatment system (in most cities in my country in most older areas drains for toilets and rainwater end up in the same system) so then it would be better for the water to first have to wet some grass and sink into the dirt and if you ofen have small amounts of rain that might greatly decrease the amount of rainwater entering your waste treatment plant, greatly decreasing their cost.
In the time it took for him to do this, DOT wouldn't have even set up signs for workers present. It would take them a day to come out, 2 hours to set up signs, 4 hour lunch break, 1 hour of standing around, 2 more hours to find the drains, 1 hour to call a supervisor to explain the situation and get approval. I love how one hand filming and one hand dragging that rake in fast moving water his camera work is still 1,000,000 times steadier than people filming animals in Africa standing still in a non moving truck.
Most likely hes using a gimble, it stabilizes the camera while moving. If he isn't, then thats damn impressive. I've been taking videos for 8 years now and its still hard sometime to maintain a very steady hand
@@chrise842 I did but the original comment was about when he was dragging his rake like at 4:25. Not when he actually working but the way the camera is so stable even though he is moving his hands, is what my comment was about

Honestly I'm impressed. Before doing anything, he observes the problem. Finds little hints that will lead to the solution. He doesn't just dive in the water head first (I mean that literally and figuratively), he addressed what needed to be addressed and solved the problem
This video shows the fastest whirlpool and quickest water movement into a street drain I have EVER seen from your channel. There may be a larger one but haven’t seen all your videos either. More amazing was the question you asked: Who builds a concrete drain surrounded by dirt ??? WHAT were they thinking??? um......... apparently they were NOT. Post 10, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Videoclip! TYVM.
To answer the question about why the drain is there, it was put in with plans for road widening in mind. Those things are expensive so you don’t want to have to take them back out. Though the road widening obviously hasn’t happened yet.
When I was 18, Hurricane Alicia hit Houston and our street was in major flood. The eye of the hurricane went over our house, so I waded out with a garden rake to pull all the tree branches out of the same type of drain. The street was almost dry when I could see the eye wall approaching and ran back into my parent's home to ride out the 2nd half of the storm.
Same, only it was hurricane Andrew. The drain for our street was in front of our house. Storm hit in the middle of the night so I didn’t run out in the middle of the storm. We had to first cut and move the tree that fell, then I raked out the drain. It was satisfying to watch the street come back from it’s river state.
I remember the place I lived in would always flood water knee deep. But one day the water was clear and I saw the drain in front of our house was clogged so I took 'em out (leaves and sticks and all). It was pretty satisfying watching the big whirlpool lol. The other houses have drains too but they're all also clogged. And what do you know! Our street wasn't clogged that day!
Thank you for doing this. I try to clear drains from leaves, branches, and garbage in my area. That drain will suck the sticks and debris back in if you don’t toss them/rake them out of the road. That’s what some people forget to do.
I live Thousands of miles from you in Tasmania (At the bottom of Australia) and my wife and myself enjoying watching you Video's. You must really love what you doo. I can tell by the excitement in your voice. Some of the places are really beautiful. We will keep watching THANK YOU FOR THE ENJOYMENT.
Hey Post, have you ever thought of developing an app where people report flooded streets/clogged drains and others on the app signed up to clear said drains and floods can go out and fix it? I think enough people would sign up to where it would clear a lot of roads all over the place

If I was part of that Local Authority, then I would try to get this great guy some professional equipment at the very least and some basic safety training (not that he needs it anyway) and allow him to work on a voluntary basis (but a performance related bonus would be great every now and then). If I was not part of their Local Authority but was a resident within that area, I would put forward the above to the Local Authority. If I didn't live in America (which I don't), then I would write the above in the CZcams comment section, like the video and subscribe (which I did). The Local Authority will not find anyone with anywhere near as much passion and knowledge, in doing what he does. He really is a diamond in the rough.
@sixty seven, I read in his "About" section on this channel that he has had training; he also states it every once in a while. That said, there are things we as citizens/denizens can do to help out in situations like this. --> If it's safe enough
You have entered deeply into the flooded culvert. But something is wrong. The leaves have brought their own reality with them, and the culvert's technology is being subverted by their presence. - Drain II (1994)
In the first age, during the first flooding, when the raindrops first fell, one stood. Drowned by the waters of clogged drains, his soul blistered by the poor city council planning, and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; and with boiling blood he scoured the flooded streets seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. He wore the vest of high visibility, and those that tasted the bite of his rake named him... the Flood Slayer.
To answer your question from my knowledge being from Louisiana, they do that in already low laying areas where there’s a natural waterway being used as a drain. It gives area to accumulate to relieve the taxing of pipes while draining the “dangerous” level so it will have the time to be absorbed by the ground. Usually the drains sit about 3-6 inches above ground level. Not sure what area you’re from but it looked like it was a natural wetland area and that tends to be where they’re found. If it’s not a major thoroughfare and not really used much, it’s the best solution, paved roadway close by or not
This is so relaxing and satisfying to watch. Need guys like him all over the world. Areas down south will stay flooded forever and left to drain on their own. You are one great man that isn’t afraid to get out and clear up clogs even in rain! Thank you for what you do

For your question of why there is no pavement there, I can see 2 possibilities:
2. This was the first video from this channel I had ever seen. Since then, I've a regular and still don't understand why I guess it's just relaxing!
I don't know why I love these videos. It's just a man unblocking drains with a rake, but it's so therapeutic.
I love how one hand filming and one hand dragging that rake in fast moving water his camera work is still 1,000,000 times steadier than people filming animals in Africa standing still in a non moving truck.
And every video of “Bigfoot” ever
Most likely hes using a gimble, it stabilizes the camera while moving. If he isn't, then thats damn impressive. I've been taking videos for 8 years now and its still hard sometime to maintain a very steady hand
@@MrGrenade121 haven't you seen him use both hands for the rake and standing 2 meters away?
@@chrise842 I did but the original comment was about when he was dragging his rake like at 4:25. Not when he actually working but the way the camera is so stable even though he is moving his hands, is what my comment was about

Everyone: Aw man, our road is flooded
This guy: Grabs his rake
Those canadians better watch out Rake Day is upon them.
You mean OUR rake?
Blyat didn’t expect you to be here lol ..Great job saying „OUR road“ but as the guy above me said it also has to be „OUR rake“.
Everyone: Aw man, our road is flooded.
This guy with a rake: And who decided that.
"Give this man a rake !"
he is the kind of neighbor that I would have liked to have. so many people have been helped without knowing it! continue your great work!
There's a guy making a PC game like this, it's called DrainSim. I bet it'll be oddly satisfying to play!
Wait!!!!! This guy doesn't even live in this neighborhood? What a nice guy 👍
This is proof that I will watch anything.
Side note: This is really interesting.
My son loves unclogging city drains in the spring. He started when he was around 6 years old and still does now ( he’s 13 ).😀
2:57 whooooo dude
I never really thought about it but you save lives every time you do this
Any flooded road someone could hydroplane crash into the woods or flip and drown. Thank your for what you do.
Honestly I'm impressed. Before doing anything, he observes the problem. Finds little hints that will lead to the solution. He doesn't just dive in the water head first (I mean that literally and figuratively), he addressed what needed to be addressed and solved the problem
Watching again in 2022
Thanks for all you do!
✌️
No! Thank you so much for sharing and caring!
TYVM.
It probably eroded away.
They got it partly right.
To answer the question about why the drain is there, it was put in with plans for road widening in mind. Those things are expensive so you don’t want to have to take them back out. Though the road widening obviously hasn’t happened yet.
everything goes to lowest bidder
This is actually therapeutic to watch!!
We need more people like you. Please procreate.
I'd nominate this guy for mayor--he actually gets things fixed.
We will keep watching
THANK YOU FOR THE ENJOYMENT.
Hey Post, have you ever thought of developing an app where people report flooded streets/clogged drains and others on the app signed up to clear said drains and floods can go out and fix it? I think enough people would sign up to where it would clear a lot of roads all over the place
Really cool people could even donate him some money too
Sadly there actually aint much people who cares
this man is a hero with no cape but has a rake and a green vest.
A man and his rake. Amazing what you can do. Thank you for this great service.
I appreciate your dedication to your community.
Down in the drains, there is a massive clog
With his trusty rake, he cleans this bog
When the streets are flooded, you’d better give a yell-a!
Because this guy ain’t an ordinary fella!
Nothing like sitting in bed at 3am researching the effects of heat on solar panel efficiency and then coming across a video like this. I wish this bloke well. The world would be a far better place with more people such as yourself.
The amount of views on this video is fu*cking gangster🤘🏼 You’re integrity is humbling and your videos are THE BEST. I refuse to watch anyone else do this job🤷♀️
Hey Post, I was in the jacuzzi and the jets weren't blowing much water but because of you I looked at the overflow, it was under the water line so I let air in it with my right toe and eventually enjoyed my bath. Thanks
Amen!
Teehee. Local Authority. Americans don’t pay taxes, and get the government they deserve.
@@canadiangemstones7636 "Americans don't pay taxes." God, I wish.
@sixty seven, I read in his "About" section on this channel that he has had training; he also states it every once in a while. That said, there are things we as citizens/denizens can do to help out in situations like this. --> If it's safe enough
@@canadiangemstones7636 Imagine thinking Americans dont pay taxes lmao. I'm just going to assume this is a joke, for my sake and yours.
YAY! You are alive!
Poke and rake, until its drained.
Ha that's what she said ;-)
You have entered deeply into the flooded culvert. But something is wrong. The leaves have brought their own reality with them, and the culvert's technology is being subverted by their presence. - Drain II (1994)
@@spatulasnout : Hahaha w.t.f

If it’s not a major thoroughfare and not really used much, it’s the best solution, paved roadway close by or not
I could seriously watch hours of your videos, especially when I'm stoned. It's like so therapeutic. Keep up the great work!
This is so relaxing and satisfying to watch. Need guys like him all over the world. Areas down south will stay flooded forever and left to drain on their own. You are one great man that isn’t afraid to get out and clear up clogs even in rain! Thank you for what you do
Why not just go out and BE this guy?
@@rekstroop4391 They never think of that.
you're a total dork, and I'm sure we all love you for it. wish we had a few more like you in every community.
Water flow can be so mesmerizing. I've showed friends and some can't watch because its just a guy clearing drains but some just get stuck watching and cant look away. How funny this whole thing is.
This is a trend to support. Bravo, sir!
This man is the Lorax of the drains.
