  • TCL NXTPAPER 11 was announced a while ago but availability was pretty minimal, so once it became available on Amazon I ordered it, I was expecting to see some negatives, but this device in my opinion is disappointing, I find issues in a lot of things, biggest being horrible CZcams experience, because anything above 720p resolution it begins to lag, and delays are pretty significant. I tried watching movies on streaming service, image quality was not impressive. While it offers quad speakers, the sound is not the best, and it begins to be distorted on max volume. I tried hard to see if I can keep the device, but I ended up spending more $$$ and buying something that is by far better option, which is Samsung Galaxy Tab S9.

    Thanks for the video, watched all the way through. Was excited for nxtpaper back in 2021, TCL made it seem like it would be a reflective LCD that wouldn't need a backlight, like e-paper, but much cheaper and faster refresh. Do you find this device any more comfortable on the eyes than other backlit displays at low/lowest brightness? Thanks again.

      @MaxNM  Před 7 měsíci +4

      Unfortunately in my opinion it is just an ordinary LCD display with matte layering on top, if only for reading books, I think it can be okay for that, but definitely not for long reading sessions as the eyes do tire out easily with that display despite changing brightness level. In comparison I applied matter screen protector on the amoled display as seen in the video, and the outcome was a lot more pleasant. Based on my experience it’s not the device I would recommend to my friends.

      There are more technology in this tablet, with special hardware to reduce the blue light spectrum... not just as simple as a 'matt screen protector', the screen is also specially etched, not a screen protector.. there is a white paper on the technology, you guys should go read it... @@MaxNM

    Have you noticed that there is no way to change the display size on this TCL in the settings? Text size yes.... but not display for some reason.

    I don't care about all of that. I just want to use the thing as a e-reader. I don't care about all the HD video and all the other bull crap that these other tablets offer. I just want this tablet to show my magazines and my books on a nice matte screen. I mean the thing only cost 200 bucks. Who cares if the screen is LCD or not

    • @MaxNM
      @MaxNM  Před 7 měsíci

      You can achieve same outcome just applying matte display on any tablet. If you already have one, then save money, if you want to read books and magazines, then maybe look into color e-ink device. If you don’t care, then get this thing.

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Nxtpaper technology , i am really trying to figure out how to make lcd/oled display suitable for long period reading possible, with software like blue light fillter / dark mode / reading mode i can see it helping a bit but still very far from my boox max lumi 2 ( e paper ) in terms of reading , to summerise one of your points from your vidieo is just to apply matte protector and you can transform any tablet / smart phone to almost an e reader in terms of reading experience ? ; if so do you think the e paper still has the edge over lcd/oled with matte protector in terms of reading convenience?
    Thanks

    • @MaxNM
      @MaxNM  Před 6 měsíci

      I’d say the point was to show that matte screen protector does the job for those who might already have a tablet at home, and that I don’t think there is anything special about TCL NXTPAPER 11. No screen protector whether it’s on an oled or lcd display can deliver what an e-ink device does when it comes to reading. Although the back lighting that I need to use with my Boox devices in dark environments also makes my eyes tired, but the strain with oled/lcd display is worse as lighting is different.

      @@MaxNM thank you again
      I will try to find a matte screen protector to apply on my smartphone and see how reading will improve and see for myself if it close to the experience from reading on my e paper device ; its really interesting but as you worte i believe e paper still the best simply because there is no backlight in front of your eyes and i prefer not to use the front light on e reader when there is enough ambient light in the room if i engage the warm light just a little i can read for hours in dark conditions with no problems.

      My experience of the nxtpaper 11 is somewhat different. I owned an onyx boox max 2 for a year although I loved it I really needed a device for reading books with colour (art books). I switched to several oled and LCD devices and experimented with matt screen protectors. But it didn't work for me. The screen on the nxtpaper 11 in my opinion is somewhat different, it's not simply an LCD screen with an anti glare protector stuck on it. Sure it's not an e-ink screen either. It's a soft Matt screen which I have so far found comfortable to read on (I switch between colour and reader mode).

    Can you compare those display under strong sun light? also the reading mode, because NXTPAPER suppose to use as E-reader competitor.

    • @MaxNM

      It’s misleading advertisement, it’s nothing more than an LCD panel, so when compared to panel on S9, in my opinion amoled panel wins especially with higher brightness capabilities.

    Come on, LCD screen with the price are really not a deal breaker, if im being honest here. Try mine, XIAOMI TAB 5, full of praises from reviewers, still on LCD , 4 x the price compared to this tablet in ur hand. And to adds insults, now starts to lags, crash (almost every time i plug in charger) , full of bugs, restrictions, what else, stylus cost USD 100 and not bundle, and after 4 months already kaputt..

    I have been using the tcl stylus (4096 pressure levels) for digital sketches and writing on this nxtpaper 11 tablet for a few days now. You said that the stylus tip might be made of metal, my stylus has a plastic tip. I can't see any scratches on the tablet so far. Definitely haven't had any issues with video streaming either. Sure the colours are not as vivid as on my ipad pro, but i still like it. I am pretty happy with my tablet for reading art books (which has colour images) and i haven't experienced any eye strain so far (compared to my ipad pro). Its a pretty decent tablet considering its price.

      how is the drawing experience on this? I'm looking for reviews but none focus on this

    • @shazia5342
      @shazia5342 Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@ToZafeiriThsAgaphs Overall, the sketching experience is pleasant as long as it is being used for casual use. There are settings within the drawing apps that have to be enabled to tweak and improve the pen input, such as enabling pen mode etc. For comparison, I also have an old iPad pro drawing with an Apple pencil, and a Cintiq 22. My favourite device is the Cintiq as I love working on large surface areas. Comparing my TCL nxtpaper plus stylus versus the iPad pro/Apple Pencil 1, I would say that iPad wins but the drawing/sketching experience with NXTpaper/stylus is still pleasant. Here are the slight weaknesses of the Nxtpaper/TCL stylus versus the iPad pro/pencil 1: I notice some lag with NXTpaper at times (I wish the Nxtpaper paper had slightly higher specs), and the Nxtpaper has a smaller drawing surface, app settings may require additional tweaking to adjust the performance, sometimes I have to keep turning the button on the button on the stylus to reconnect via Bluetooth (I sort of got used to it after a few hours but some people may find it annoying). The advantages of Nxtpaper/TCL stylus over the iPad are: NXTpaper has a lovely Matt surface for sketching, Stylus charge lasts a long time (well over a week), I carry/store my NXTpaper and stylus with the official cover and its very nice and convenient, I can see the Nxtpaper screen outdoors so its handy to draw/sketch outdoors, NXTPAPER in reading mode allows me to rapidly assess my tonal values when I am sketching or studying references/art literature. If you are going to use the Nxtpaper for casual drawing/sketching, I think it might be ok but if you wish to use it more seriously unfortunately NXTpaper/stylus isn't the best option. In case you are wondering I have used the following drawing/sketching apps on the Nxtpaper: 1. Hipaint, 2. Artflow, 3. Artrage, 4. Sketchbook. I draw/sketch in the museums and parks/outdoors on the Nxtpaper, and I like it.

      as a sketchbook as you said so I think it will be enough for me, I just wanted to make sure it had a decent pressure sensitivity.
      Of course it won't feel natural like paper especially since as you say it's a budget tablet. (Which is the only thing I can afford right now)

    Looks like you completely missed the point of this device. It made for reading text and web browsing. Nothing more or less and it completes those tasks well. Complete different ball games, bad comparison between nxtpaper and a galaxy tab. Huge price difference. Slow yes, that's all you need for its intended use. CZcams performance is a bit sad I agree but that might help some people get away from smart device addiction. Same can be said about the smart phone variant. People i know how bought this device were up grading their kindle. They didn't want over priced flagship devices to use to do basic tasks.

    • @MaxNM
      @MaxNM  Před 4 měsíci

      Kindle is made for reading, Kindle Scribe is made for reading and writing, each device out there is designed to do what they are capable of. Onyx devices have Android and they do things very well within scope of e-ink, now comes TCL with pushing their NXTPAPER devices advertising that they can do a lot without delays of e-ink display. Those who settle with limitations of NXTpaper devices, that’s fine, but it is advertised to do more, but it can’t.
