- The TCL NXTPAPER 11 is not e ink nor is it e paper. It’s also not an e reader. It’s an Android tablet with a full color display, featuring TCL’s NXTPAPER technology to give you a paper-like experience of an ereader, with the operating system experience of an android tablet.

I've had it since december and I've been using it for reading and work. I actually work as a professor so the tablet is really useful for drawing up lesson plans, accessing my google drive, google classroom, etc. Also, the battery lasts for several days. I'm satisfied.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
That's pretty nice. I've been thinking about an e-reader lately so nice timing on the review. Your reviews are always very helpful!
Glad I could help!
Absolutely want to see their next versions of these screens, using services like kindle unlimited with books that have full color pages and graphic novels make so much sense with e-ink, but the kindle devices just don't get large enough the black and white limitation takes something away. Would absolutely like to find something much closer to e-ink on the eyes, but in color and in this format.
Can you test what it looks like in daylight type conditions compared to actual e-ink? Curious how it'd do sitting outside to read something.
This look's very interesting great job on the video like you always do can't wait to see what you review next have a wonderful and amazing day. 😎
YES please review the TCL Nextpaper 14 pro!
Thanks very much for the excellent review of this device, it was helpful! This and the forthcoming TCL tablets interest me mostly for the possibility of reading digital magazines and other color content, something my e-ink reader doesn't do. I would be very interested in seeing comparisons of this 11 model with the upcoming NXTPAPER 3.0 tablets, and worry a little it that 14" might be too large, while the 10" might be too small! 11" form factor seems right, and wonder why TCL isn't upgrading this to 3.0. Anyway, thank you again!
Yes please on the new units. The matte colour tablet idea is quite interesting.
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate TCL. Blessings on your day.
Very interesting! I have been looking for ages for an e-reader/e-ink style tablet for note taking, reading on the go, and access general reference materials. Other options on the market seemed substantially more expensive with proprietary user interfaces, not to mention the difference in display. The higher refresh on this display alone is a notable improvement over the other options but you get full color on top of that!
Please do try and get the future models or similar category items as mentioned! I find this style of tablet to be an interesting developing category with typical technological leaps and bounds over time. This is another huge bump!
Great review Sailor 🌙 Shannon ❤
I really love how these TCL NXTPAPER screens look & love that it's a full tablet, not just a limited e-reader. I just wish they had a 5:4 or 4:3 screen, because I want to use it for *reading*, not for watching video. That's personally what frustrates me most about Android tablets!
The sad thing about this series is that its screen lacks heritability, and each generation of technology is different, even if each generation is great. I don’t like the nxtpaper on 11.
Its better that way tho reading is great cuz you get a lot more text to read plus a tablet is meant for consuming media with a bit of productivity
Thanks for the review. And I always knew your natural hair color is purple. ;)
Edit: I'd like to see reviews of the newer models.
Love the honest review of good and bad. Charging is pretty slow, but if it lasts the day then all good
Shanon, I really enjoy the channel. Please review more tablets as they become available. We need alternatives to the Amazon ecosystem.
I'd love to see a review and comparisons the newer e-readers, the charging for this model is a big thing for me so it's unfortunate it's terribly slow. As always thanks for the thorough review!
I have this tablet and discovered it charged slow because it came with a wimpy charger. The device doesn't support fast charging, but it does charge much quicker with my 30W Anker charger.
I love this tablet for reading. It was a bargain as well, since I got it when it went on sale for US$160. When their phones make it to the North American market later this year, I plan to replace my Samsung S23.
I can't find a stylus that works. Is there a setting that needs to be turned on? Can you suggest one that is known to work?
I would be interested in buying the screen only, to attach to my own SBCs (Single Board Computers), but the TCL website shows them only in tablet computer form.
i'm amazed by the fact that you can use e-Ink for normal stuff now! hooooly shazbot! I would love to have one of these.. i love e-paper (still use an older kindle for ebooks), and only care about occasional video watching (and don't care if it's even just FHD, as long as I can enjoy it). such a great review! Thank you Shannon :D
One thing i'm curious about. what type of stylus was it you got and tried on it?
This is not e-ink nor e-paper.
Is this stock Android? How good is TCL at Android updates?
2:39 Could anyone confirm this? A lot of reviewers are saying stylus for this being capacitor and active is highly propitiatory and non other ones work for it. Even a reviewer on TCL site says the Companies personal one questioning didn't know what stylus is and even web page doesn't offer one for sale!
The said optional stylus is pressure sensitive and that is what I need. HELP please if you have knowledge about this matter.
I wonder how the screen reacts to cold fingertips.
I wonder if they will ever add this screen tech to an amoled display.
Thanks for the review! I use a color e-ink reader (Onyx Boox Nova Air C) that is great for reading books and sketching. But it has the screen refresh and color reproduction limitations that don't make it ideal to use as a full tablet, even though it runs Android. Something like this might be better for broader use, while still being easy on the eyes.
I doubt that this is close to an e-ink screen in terms of eye comfort.
I see the slow screen refresh as a feature because it keeps me from watching videos and scrolling. I would love the color reproduction though.
I would love to see how I’d do with one of these, as a migraine sufferer. My iPad can trigger them sometimes but I try to keep the night mode on in darker environments to prevent that, and the surrounding lights brighter than it. My Kindle Paperwhite does not thanks to its front lighting.
Check out neuro lenses glasses. They use prisms.
Is the screen transflective (like the pixelqi display of the OLPC XO-1) or does it only work backlit?
No it's just a standard LCD with a coating on the glass. It is nothing like a real eink display.
please review and demo darkmode too, thanks, having glaucoma, its the only painfree way to read screens.
Cool. What colour is your nails?
Looks awesome 😊
Pink with hearts!
Holy purple tie-dye batman
Can they please just sell that coating as something I can get on my other devices?
Nice review but currently the NXTPAPER isn't available for purchase anywhere that I can find. It shows out of stock on the TCL wen site.
What's crazy is they just sent me this device to review, and it was in stock when I recorded my review (about a week ago)
But how is the security? We all know TCL has had known backdoors in Android on their TV platforms.
Does the tablet do pen pressure or just point detection?
4000+ pressure depths
@@CLOYO nice
Its not fully e-paper device, it has lcd display
I really like the nxtpaper 11 screen and combined with the stylus which has 4096 pressure levels, it is a great device for reading my art books and sketching outdoors. I prefer the texture on the nxtpaper than on the ipad pro for drawing. I use HiPaint, artrage and sketchbook apps. I purchased the official TCL case and the stylus separately and i think they are nice. I got a 30 day trial for JNotes which is integrated on the tablet. There are only a few positive reviews for nxtpaper 11 on CZcams, this is one of the few devices that i really like. Considering its low price and the lovely screen, i am very happy with my purchase. However, it is sadly underrated as either people want a glossy vibrant screen or an e-ink display. All i will say its a good device for reading books (even art books where colour and tonal values are important), sketching and writing and watching videos alongside other general tasks. I didn't feel that the performance of the tablet was insufficient in any way. I dont play games so i can't comment on that.
Where did you get the TCL case? I could not find it in the usa
@@DOTADOTADOTA I don't live in the USA. Got mine from Amazon Germany (maybe you can check if they offer international shipping). Perhaps sending TCL an email to find a retailer in the USA that may be able to help you.
Nice review Shannon. Have you ever thought to review that stylus? Maybe compare it to the Apple pencils and other popular styluses?
Nice work 👍
I miss my old Sony e-reader; I worked that thing into the ground. Had no idea that e-readers were still in existence after the rise of mobile phones and tablets. e-Readers are so easy on my old eyes.
I'm assuming you had the Sony e-reader that came out before the Amazon Kindle, which has sold millions. eInk hasn't changed much until recently. We are just recently seeing a few color options. This one isn't eInk.
@@EightPieceBox Yes, my Sony had a blue CASE; it wasn't even tablet-shaped.😆🤣
You're correct in that it came out before I'd ever heard of Amazon Kindle or B&N Nook.
I recall my machine was very slow to flip through the "pages." It had no wireless connectivity,
Yet...it did what I wanted. I'm glad I got my money's worth over the 10+ years I had it. Towards the end, the screen...just...faded away until I couldn't read it anymore.
Now?
I just use a tablet.
Mahalo for your kind response! Aloha!
This isn't e-ink tho. It's lcd. She doesn't fully cover some of the key screen features tbh.
@@Silverbeardedsurfer Indeed? Then...what would be the point of this device when one could use a cheap tablet or phone? My old e-reader was proudly monochrome, and its charge lasted weeks. I must admit, though...it didn't connect to the internet or use Bluetooth, either. Too primitive for young moderns of today. Easier on the eyes, especially those like mine in their 7th decade.🤣🤣
@@jimcabezola3051 What a random reply. If all I had was what I needed, I'd live in a cardboard box with a blow-up doll.
My point was ereaders use e-ink by definition and this is lcd. Use it as a chopping board for all I care dude.
8:32 to 8:43 Yes, please
Deal! I'll request review units!
Literally no different than any other LCD tablet with a matte screen protector on it.
Pretty much, yes...
Xiaomi Pad 6 is better.
Not at all comparable.
