  • Beautiful song also performed by Faith Hill. I prefer this version. This is the first of these I have ever created but I felt the lack of Angie's version of this song so here it is... The photos are mine but the music is Angie's.

@@countrygirlcountrymusiclov5831 OK, we get it. You like Faith Hill's version better. And I do too, But she wouldn't even have a version if Angie didn't write the song. Angie wrote the song for goodness sake. He must have had some feelings about this topic to write it. In fact I think that the 2nd verse "if your love could be caged" ... is one of the most masterfully written verses of all time for a love song. Without Angie, then Faith would not have this song to sing. And its one hell of a song to be missing from her repertoire.

I was lucky enough to work at Hollister when they first opened like 8 stores and they had these touch screen jukeboxes that we all played music we liked and I remember we were treated to a private concert of him and once I heard Spaceship I realized I knew who he was and then I heard him sing this live and one of best performances I have been to for one song with so much emotion. I don't know if it was the fact there were maybe 50 of us but you truly felt what he is singing! To bad his health has kept him from being able to make music at the rate he once did but love still hearing his music such a unique voice and vision! People don't realize this song and style was not popular or really even in the public eye before Faith Hill did her cover!

What a fantastic song! One way I think Faith Hill's version improves upon this performance is in the arrangement of the drums. Just by shifting the snare drum emphasis, the arranger gave it an unusual feel that I'm sure contributed to its success.

Are you fucking kidding me? This was originally written, and performed by Angie Aparo with exponentially more talent, and emotion than Faith Hill could ever muster on her best of days. Faith Hill's version is a sad imitation that pales in comparison to the original artist. If he had intended this song to be sung with an off-key twange, he would have performed it that way because I assure you he has the talent to sing something as pitch-perfect as this, or debase it with a modern country tone-deaf affectation if he felt the need to appeal to your, obviously, callow taste. Lucky for those of us who have an ear for real music, and talent, he made something as beautiful as this.

Angie's manager knew about "Cry" and told him to have it ready to sing for Clive Davis. Angie thought the song was too sappy, but went along with the request. Davis was blown away, signed Angie to a deal with Arista. Davis subsequently left Arista, and with it, left Angie in limbo. What a shame as Angie is one of the most talented performers I have even known. The song was recorded by Angie first, but was made a hit by Faith, who had a huge record company behind her. I love her version also.

  • @WillLightfoot

    @JillBrameld Před 12 lety +2

I don't really prefer one version over the other for any particular reason, except that Angie's was the first one I heard. But when I compare them, it's really unfair. The style of voices aren't alike in any way, and both singers are talented. I'm not sure why people get so up in arms about it. Either a singer/song resonates with you, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, there's no reason to argue over it. Songs are to be listened to and enjoyed. If a song makes you angry, stop listening to it.

Maybe all my misery would be well spent
Could you cry a little? Lie just a little?
Pretend that you're feeling a little more pain?
I gave now I'm wanting something in return
So cry just a little for me
If your love could be caged, honey I would hold the key
And conceal it underneath the pile of lies you handed me
And you'd hunt and those lies - they'd be all you'd ever find
And that'd be all you'd have to know for me to be fine
    And you'd cry a little
    You'd die just a little
And baby I would feel just a little less pain
I gave now I'm wanting something in return
So cry just a little for me
    Give it up baby
    A whimper would be fine
    Some kind of clue that
    You're doing time
    Some kind of heartache

Every artist takes a canvas and makes it their own. Whether the canvas is for painting, drawing, a song, etc…Faith Hill did just that. Now I’ll agree that this is a fantastic version, but it’s only due to Faith Hill that the song is well known and became what it is. A singer’s goal is to expose their music, Faith helped him do that. Plus I’m sure the royalties he receives aren’t all that bad either…she has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. I’m sure he thanks her.

Stephanie Roberts BITCH FAITH HILL COULD NEVER "SQUAWL" IF SHE TRIED YOU SICK JEALOUS TWISTED SACK OF SHIT. HER AND CASSADEE POPE HAVE THE ONLY VERSIONS WORTH LISTENING TO. I LASTED ALL OF 25 SECONDS ON THIS VERSION. HE OPENED HIS MOUTH AT 0:15. THE VOLUME TO MY PHONE WAS 💯% COMPLETELY TURNED OFF BY 0:25. HAD I KNOWN THIS SHIT WAS GONNA BE THIS ATROCIOUS I WOULD OF NEVER CLICKED ON IT. I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT FAITH HILL'S VERSION SINCE I WAS NINE OR TEN YEARS OLD WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT IN 2002

I dont care who sings it....I dont give a damn if Justin Beiber sang it, I still will looove it. The lyrics make it stronger than the person who sings it.
Now, if Rebecca Black sung it, or Ke$ha and her annoying auto-tone, then I may have a problem... >=P

Wow... I don't buy into the whole Angie vs. Faith thing but your comments here are beyond the pale. To intimate that Angie Aparo is not a good singer and that he should stuck to harmony and writing songs is offensive. The man has a 7 octave range and it's clear on his version of this song. Listen to Faith's version and it's clear it's taking everything she has to handle it ... and it almost gets away from her. These are both talented singers so let's not discard one because he isn't famous.

Interesting to hear this in the original. However if Faith hadn't transformed it and more importantly - the incredible arrangement she uses that takes it into a different league (who did that?) - it would not have got the recognition it deserved.

Great song. More appropriate for a man to sing than a woman though. Won't go into detail cause internet argument are stupid. :p

I agree with you that he's a good singer and this is a good version, but he's certainly doesn't have anything even close to a "seven octave range". I don't think you quite understand what that means. Even the best singers usually have only a two or three octave range, maybe four at the VERY outside. If he had a seven octave range only dogs would be able to hear his high notes. It's just not how the human voice works.

Hurray! Some people that realize that this song is Angie Aparo's song and not Faith Hills song,
    I totally prefer his.

I like his version but Faith's is better. This is just my personal opinion.

  • @countrygirlcountrymusiclov5831

Had to check out this version after being so familiar with this from the INSANELY TALENTED BEAUTIFUL faith hill. THIS IS ATROCIOUS GARBAGE. GOOD GOD. WHAT THE HECK IS THIS DUDE THINKING. AND HIS NAME IS ANGIE LIKE A FEMALE NAME?????? NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!! HE DIDN'T OPEN HIS MOUTH UNTIL 15 SECONDS LATER AND BY 25 SECONDS I HAD THE VOLUME ON MY PHONE 💯% COMPLETELY MUTED.

@barrypatrickius You're kidding,....right? Fake Hill took Aparo's gorgeous original, needlessly cut out lyrics, and turned it into plastic, soulless, commercial dog shit. She should receive prison time for what she did to this song.......and it's writer.
