Sky Television Opening 1989. Including Sky Channel menu. Eurosport first day, opening and closedown. Note, low volume on part of Eurosport opening. (That's how it was broadcast)
1989 Eurosport the only channel where you can watch every F1 race live (though only the European races were live on BBC with the exception of the French Grand Prix which always clashed with the Wimbledon Mens Singles Final in that period and was always shown delayed and the flyaway races were highlights only) 2019 Sky Sports the only channel where you can watch every F1 race live
The day when Eurosport started losing it's Pan European aspect and slowly started encrypting it's transmissions eventually going to a subscription only country by country aspect was the beginning of the end for this great channel. It should have stayed free to air on a European satellite beam with multiple language soundtracks and a sensible several hours a day schedule.
I was there from day 1. But after 26 years I will soon be unable to watch PAY TV,so thanks for the memories. [ Including Eurosport] A former disabled carer. GOD BLESS!

Sunday February 5th at the Alpine WCH in Vail was the Women's Downhill(Commentary by David Goldstrom), but why did they only show the combined from three days earlier, because that was the first event of the championships?
I wish in my heat of heats Eurosport could have stayed under the ownership of Sky Television. Eurosport has never been the same under T.F.1. from 1991.

+Michal Bergseth Hi, As you may know Murdoch took over Sky Channel in 1983. Before launching the new Sky Channel (and others) in 1989.I much prefer the old Pan European Sky Channel.Cheers.
That is not true. Sky Channel was broadcasted from several places in Europe. It is true that from 1989 he bought it, but before that Sky Channel had a European agenda. When Murdoch came, he turned Sky Channel into Sky One which focused entierly on UK and Ireland.
Sid N is right, News International acquired an 65% stake in Satellite Television Ltd on the 27 June 1983 (for £5 Million), six months before the channel was re branded as Sky Channel on the 16th January 1984. The company (not the channel) remain called Satellite Television right up until 1988 (go and watch and old start up from the period if you don't believe me) when Murdoch announced the launch of the transformation of Sky Channel into the Sky Television group of channels (although Satellite Television were part of the Direct Broadcasting Limited consortium that bid unsuccessful for the UK Direct Broadcast Satellite franchise in 1986, that was ultimately won by BSB. Within DBS bid their were plans for another two Sky channels to join Sky Channel)

For the first year it was six hours of Sky One and six hours of Eurosport on the Eutel-sat 5 satellite. HAPPY DAYS!
