As a foot doctor I look at basketball shoes and basketball sneaker technology a bit differently as I focus more on what foot types benefit from these shoes as well as the basketball shoe's functional attributes on the basketball court
Some of the main areas we cover in this basketball shoe playtest, teardown and performance review are:
- The weight, durability, fit and playability
- What are the features of the insole, midsole, and outsole
- Puma basketball shoe technology explained

2024 Basketball Shoe Guide: geni.us/hoopshoeguide
Please review the Way of Wade Slides!
Not sure if you’re aware, but in 2020, the Puma Clyde All Pro was the hooper shoe of choice. Hailed as the second coming of Kobe sneakers for fit, feel, cushion, etc. Hoopers have been waiting for a second coming of that Clyde All Pro. After being disappointed by the Puma fusion Nitro - we hoopers wanted something special. Hence all the requests. Thanks for your hard work!
Currently playing in the Clyde all pro and that’s exactly why I’m here
Yeah I agree. Got the high risk red colorway
You not lying I have 4 pair of those and I just wear them for casuals
@@elliottwilson2352I have an indoor pair and an outdoor pair and wanna cop the new Lamelo mid pair off GOAT or something.
The previous Clyde All-Pro was an outstanding shoe, so a lot was expected out of this successor
Love u man, i just needed this review to end well the year
Thanks for reviewing these!
Keep it up man your video are alway really cool and informative! Also that is a really nice pirates jacket. Have a great day.
Thanks for the review. The translucent outsoles on the scoot and Chris Brinkley PEs have significantly better traction even when dusty.
The scoot edition of this shoe is best bball shoe I've worn in years absolutely love them
Appreciate doc for giving the teaser of the next shoe featured at the end of his videos
Man how i missed your review on these is beyond me.... know ive been askin and commenting on these ever since i got the scoot edition on its release day still my current favorite bball shoe in my rotation
The new change in settings is fresh! Liking your office alot, the shoes displayed are a nice touch.
YOOOOOOOOOO, IS THAT THE ALLCITY12 FORESHADOWED AT THE END ,,🫣🫣🫣
I got the scoot PE and thankfully I do not experience the same issue with the outsole. Thanks for the review doc! Nice office you got there.
You won’t the translucent outsole is much better
I’ve been waiting for this❤
😂 Worth the wait !!!! Thank you Doc ! I hear some said that translucent outsole of Puma feels better than the solid ones
Great video doc, I didn't expect the traction to be that inconsistent knowing that the original puma's all pro are really good in traction.
Solid rubber outsoles pick up dust like mad but transluescent outsoles are very good
i bought for the first time Puma basketball shoes after some reviews that i saw for those. Im a Nike fan and i had the expensive series like jordan 34,36, gt cut 2, and some previous versions because i play basketball about 35 years now. This shoe is amazing. Probably the best shoe that i used for outdoors. I didnt have any traction issues, it has great cushioning compered only with the top zoom units, it is very comfortable and durable. I bought a second pair for indoor use only. i totally recommend those shoes and i have a lot of experience to basketball shoes.
Great review Zach. I agree with your review. I’ve been using these for 5 one hour training sessions and they are really comfortable. The traction does get slippery, so you’ll need to spray grip spritz on it on dusty courts. No breakin time. Highly recommend shoes for all position players with move insoles. I had to exchange for these for the new balance two way v4. Puma all pro nitro is top tier with great lockdown and court feel.
Which Is better two wxy v4 or all pro nitro??
I think the puma all pro nitro has better traction and less breakin time. Contrary to what foot doctor Zach loving the two way v4 the traction of the lime colour way was horrible on dusty indoor court. I was slipping even whilst the show was new.
Plus the puma all pro nitro is on special and much better buy for me. As much I love Zach’s reviews, he got it wrong for me on the new balance two way v4.
exactly the same with me, bought the V4s and had very painful blisters on the side of my foot. Sent them back and got me the all pro nitros, for 50 euro!@@richodto8560
Hey Zach, as for the outsole tread - traction, the translucent outsoles perform way better than the solid rubber. Similar case as the Puma Mb.01
HAVE THESE, LOVE THESE !!! ❤❤❤
Thinking of getting these during Boxing Day sales. Should be a nice upgrade to my Trc blaze court too.
I had this show and the model before and something about puma sneakers…the traction and stability is made better north and south then east to west movement wise. I feel most comfortable wearing them in a shoot around
Good review. I think I’ve had better luck with the translucent sole on the scoot version in terms of traction…same with my son
i fit these in the mall but was skeptical of em since puma usually has different tractions from different outsoles, and i was right. Thanks som much for the review doc! Hopefully you also do the li-ning yushuai 17 lows, they have a SAS system which is kinda new to my ears and dunno how it would translate on shoes
Can’t wait for a review on the AE1
I think everything you said is true. I just got this shoe this past week and I loved them as soon as I put them on. The cushioning is so plush underfoot compared to the Nikes with zoom I’ve been buying. I’ve played in them twice and I like them more than my Jordan 38 or 37. When I was healthier zoomed in was my choice setup. Now I’m 20 pounds heavier and my knees are shot. I’m 5’10, close to 240. I prefer the absorption over the bounce. I’m hoping to play more in these to get light enough that I enjoy my other shoes more. They do catch dust, but as a hooper wiping shoes is kind of a reflex. I wipe every ball stop and I’m fine. If I catch these on sale again I’m grabbing at least another pair.
Are u still in them?
Unfortunately I only use them to work out, had an Achilles injury. I got injured in the AE1, but before the injury I was thinking about how my knees don’t hurt.
Hair is looking great man!
The heel traction pattern is similar to their Playmaker Pro line tread pattern. Puma uses ProFoam in the Playmaker Pro line which is a budget model shoe that has been worn by some NBA players at certain points (Marcus Smart).
our wish is granted. thank you so much doc zach.the translucent version is much better on dust
I like the looks of these, still unsure about nitro foam as a whole…currently playing in the Clyde all pro, which was the predecessor to these and almost wished they just gave this shoe the same treatment but with a pebex puck in the forefoot and heal rather than just the heal from the original version
Yo Doc, the All City 12 is already out. ;) Agree 100% with the review though; ultra comfortable, but not bouncy at all. Suggest to wear thick socks too. I went TTS and the shoe feels roomy, with a bit of heel slip.
FINALLY MY SHOESSSSS❤❤❤
Hi Doc, I have a question. Does the stiff shank like GDP pop the air strobel in Nike Shoes in the long term? Does the shank beat it up in longer use?
I just bought these shoes and i havent balled in them yet. But i feel what your saying because ive used it in the gym. The stewie 2 was another option for me.
Hey doc, how do you feel about heel drops? Supposedly there's research that says that it increases ankle injury or something, but I think almost every shoe has it.
Hey @FootDoctorZach i really like these shoes, but i feel the court feel is lacking. 1) if i change the insoles would that help? and 2) if so, what insoles should i use?
Hi, could you please tell me which tennis (or other sports) shoe to use after ankle injury? Thank you in advance!
I have a pair of the Scoots PEs and the traction is awesome even on dust
I think the All Pro Nitro has gained a lot of attention, because Scoot Henderson wears them. He even has his own signature shoe with Puma, but he continues to wear the All Pros more often. Thanks for the review Zach! Maybe do a breakdown of the new Scoot Zeros in the near future for us.
Really appreciate this review doc! I just bought these recently off a sale and I must say Im excited to try these.
As I am also on the wider side, I would appreciate it if you could show how much toe space / where the edge of your toes are when you go true to size or go up half a size. Would help us buyers guesstimate sizing fit of shoes when buying online..Keep it up doc!
Hey how is the fit with wide feet?
Your review is exactly how I would review them. Extremely comfortable but traction gets dusty super quick and super slippery
Thank you for the review! i do have to say thought my fave shoe is the mb1 i tried the 2 and 3 and the stewies and idk why but puma makes the transluncent outsoles grip way better than solid rubber so if u could maybe compair?
some of us do miss your past jump height tests Doc
they may not be as objective as your recent tests but the they do help tell something about the effectiveness of the shank
I just bought both these, and the Clyde all pro for my 11 year old son, and I was wondering if it’s a good idea to add the “game day/ pro” insole in them
For you people that have the shoe and Zach, how does it feel in the toebox? Can I go half a size up? My one foot is half a size bigger than the other.
I like the idea of supplemental tests for bounce height and speed ratio. As you've explained, sometimes the speed ratio doesn't tell the whole story because of the way the shank can help propel a heavy shoe or return energy for a higher bounce. Could there also be a place for bringing back the jump height and shuttle run tests as long as it's understood that they are supplemental to the speed ratio and bounce height?
I’d like to but in my area 4 months out of the year you can’t get to courts easily to do those tests and that would mean huge delays in videos
I hear that the translucent outsoles of the all pro nitro have top tier grip, so looks like the solid rubber is the exception.
Can you have an update of this model but on colorways with translucent outsoles?
Man it took you long enough 😂.
This is the shoe most people have been waiting for due to the previous model the clyde all pro.
Its a great shoe to play in and hopefully more colourways/collaborations are available in the UK. Saying that I felt the translucent rubber (scoot Henderson PE) gripped better on dusty courts
Love you man, would love to see a scoot zero review too
Alright, ill cave, ordering now- haha don't say I don't listen to members
@@FootDoctorZach you are the man, myth and legend rolled up into scrubs! Never change
He finally did it
I’ve one last fresh pair of the original Clyde All-Pro so I’ve been wearing that and this All-Pro Nitro for about a month now. Still prefer the original because this Nitro doesn’t feel as lock down and nimble, it feels higher off the ground. The springboard effect is quite obvious so it is good for layup and rebound but not so much for shooting especially if you’re not a high jump shooter type. I’ve to adjust my 3 point jump shot quite a bit by slowing down the shooting motion to compensate for the quicker bound effect in order to maintain a high arch shot which kind of take away my quick release… The other thing that bother me is the toe part seems to be a bit spacious so I don’t get good court feel when trying to push off which also affecting my running jump shot. So IMHO, if you’re a shooting guard type, this is not as good as the original Clyde All-Pro.
I think with the kinda maximalist cushioning that this shoe provides it would make for a good all around everyday hoop shoe that would cater to any position player… I like the new gremlins cw so I’m probably going to get a pair and use them as a primary training shoe..I have 2 pairs of the Curry 11 for team scrimmages/games…have a bunch of 10’s as well. I use the RS Dreamer as a training shoe and swap in custom made insanely stiff carbon insoles. Also I doubt that the shoe would affect my shooting, quick release, foot speed etc. I don’t like being higher off the ground but it doesn’t look like they are any higher than the pairs of RS Dreamers that I use. You get plush cushioning and an all around aka well rounded shoe so ya it’s expected that you would lose some court feel but it’s not going to affect performance.
Can u pls do the Clyde All Pro Team if you can get ahold of? Thanks and more power!
I bought two pairs of these. Very comfortable sneakers. The only negative for me is poor grip on a dusty court. MB.03 have better grip.
What would be the go between Puma all pro nitros vs GT Cut 3s. For a point/shooting Guard
Do move insoles like game day pair well with this?
Would you recommend the moves insole with these?
Hey FDZ, appreciate the reviews as always, on your durometer, did you find the All Pro Nitro's foam setup overally softer than MB.02 or Puma's lineup?
Yep
@@FootDoctorZach thanks Doc
Can you elaborate on why these might be bad for hamstring/calf strain?
Anybody else think this is the 'Team Shoe' version? I had 6 pairs of the Clyde All Pros and then purchased 2 pairs of the team shoe at the end of it's run. Noticeable drop off in performance.......wonder if the same is true here, because I love the Scoot PE of this shoe.
i dont know if its true.. but some said that translucent rubber is much better on puma then normal rubber
and mine with translucent rubber really solid with the traction
tho the fit is really iffy.. i had slight wide foot so half size up always my go to and my current hoop shoes like Drose 12 and Kd 14 had zero issue but this puma is a bit slippy for me
Doc, Puma Scoot Zeros next!
I know it’s late but are these better than the Trc blaze court?
+ 1 for the translucent rubber. i’ve got the red CW and they are grrrrrippy. seems puma is opposite of nike’s with their rubber compounds.
Got a belated question to these shoes . Is this a good shoe when I have to wear the Zamst A2DX ankle braces , which you had in one of your videos ? Or will the stability suffer of the shoes while wearing zamst ?
I would like to buy these shoes but want to be sure before I buy them .
Hope you can help me out . Thanks Doc ✌🏻
I dont see why you cant wear one in these
Better cushion for a big man, this or stewie 2?
wat is the best pro nitro or Clyde?
the best basketball shoe i used
Hey zach, can u test the Adidas bouce legends please?
Do the new AE 1's please!
Puma is known for their translucent outsole rubbers
With translucent rubber, the all pro nitro gets through dust
Don’t know what happened over Covid to pumas rubber but the translucent became god tier and their solid rubber became a dust magnet
With puma you have to get the translucent outsole.
If they perform like Clyde All-Pro with more cushioning they will be fantastic!!!😉
Hi doc….thanks for the great info….what puma shoe is the equivalent to the Stewie 2 for men?
The Stewie 2- just get your equivalent size they fit unisex
My favorite part was when u finally reviewed it.
All Pro Nitro or TRC Blaze?
Can u test the Adidas bouce legends? Please
These or li-ning all city 11 v2?
Can you do the nike air max impact 4
Advice; Get the translucent outsoles. Eliminates the grip issue. But other than that, these are probably the best shoe you can get. If you want lighter shoe, you will sacrifice comfort. Then go with a Kobe. But there are OP. Fr.
Which model has the translucent outsoles?
How is the durability of the uncaged foam on the rear of the lateral and medial of the shoes?
It’s so dense so if I had to guess long term maybe 1.5 what a traditional uncaged setup would be
This shoe is fantastic until the traction goes. Bouncy, responsive cushioning and great initial traction. Super smooth heel to toe. But like other puma shoes I’ve played in, I feel like the outsole rubber wears quickly and then becomes unreliable, particularly on dust. Medial forefoot for me wore down within a few months unfortunately. It’s the only thing stopping me from buying multiple pairs.
AE1 review?
The translucent outsole is supposedly better btw.
Harden 8 or this? Thanks!
I like them, just need a mid top!
This or the Lebron NXXT Gen AMPDs?
can you try a Xtep Basketball Shoe? thanks
Lebrons 21 or all pro nitro gremlins? 😊
This or Harden vol 7?
Adidas fog 1 please zach :)
Has any shoe ever scored a 5/5 on bounce score ahah ? Great content
A lot actually like the GT Jump 2, LeBron 21, Ja 1, Rise Nitro, and AR1 just to name a few.
I actually had to go back and check on some of these- Ja 1 because of the profile and engineering- I probably should have made it a 4 or 4.5 with the benefit of hindsight - the boom foam in most WOW is at the level of these too- just depends if the rest of the shoe matches the profile of the foam too
do the serious player only shoe
yessssss
People are so interested in this model because
A) It's the sequel to the Clyde All-Pro, which is one of the most loved basketball shoes of recent years.
B) Unlike the Stewie, Lamelo, and other Puma shoes, this one has a full bed of Puma's Nitro foam, which is basically their premium midsole tech.
get some Lining Speed 10!
Review the All Pro Nitro! 😂😂😂
Finally 😂
First!!
The comfort is really good, but the traction on the lime squeeze colour very horrible, just stay away from this shoes because its useless and can cause injury during normal stop. Even my precision 6's traction way better than this shoes
