    That is damn good mpg out of the frontier on that loop. I think that's a cool test. Very real world as you say mixing the two types of driving.

      I saw a v6 colarado 4x4 come into the dealership i worked at 3 TIMES for a grenaded engine, It only had 13k on it .think it was a 17. truck was driven normally from what we could tell! Usually it was the diesel ones in the shop all the time.

    • @justinl8927
      @justinl8927 Před 5 lety

      They would never do that because the Nissan would win. Chevrolet would quit sending them trucks if they would do that. That's why they do complete opposite trucks so the results are expected.

    Around town here in Scottsdale, I get 13.5ish in my '16 PW. Going up to my house in Flag, 14, 14.5 coming back down (75mph). Cool that they gave you the PW long term, and also cool that Nissan still makes a base truck with a manual. Getting way too rare these days.

      "...AutoGuide was told by senior vice president of Nissan North America Christian Meunier that “The Frontier has a future. Trucks are in our DNA, we’ve been doing them for a long time.” But will that next Frontier simply be a rebadged Navarro, Nissan’s respected mid-size truck sold overseas? "We’ll do something better than the Navarro," Meunier confirmed. "We like real trucks...(whereas the Navarro is more) like a Honda Ridgeline."..."

  • @redhorse7458
    @redhorse7458 Před 7 lety

    My GMC Canyon with the 2.5 averages about 22 in mixed driving and on a highway road trip I got 29.7. I'm not surprised about the RAM. It's a big heavy truck and Dodge / RAM has never been known for making fuel efficient trucks to begin with. I once had a 1991 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 V6 that drank gas. I was averaging about 15 mpg around town. If anything the mpg on that big RAM is an improvement over what they used to make. The advantage to the RAM is that it will go just about anywhere.

    • @txrebelredneck3961

    • @redhorse7458
      @redhorse7458 Před 7 lety

      TX, yeah it was considered reasonably normal actually. At that time Dodge used throttle body fuel injection mounted on the intake manifold. It would really drink some gas if I drove it aggressively. Make 13.9 in that Rebel look like good gas mileage lol. The 318 V8 they used in those old Dakotas was even worse.

    I average about 12mpg mixed driving in my 2016 RAM 3500 4X4 dually with the Cummins diesel and with a 4000lb Northstar STC12 Truck Camper. Highway I average about 13 and in town about 11mpg. I usually drive from New England to Minnesota and areas in-between. Of course, if I hit a strong headwind at below 0 temps, then mpg suffers; worst I got was 8mpg driving through Iowa in January.

    I asked my Nissan dealer if he would or could get me a Frontier like this one, after he looked into my eyes to see that I was not kidding, he did a quick search of dealers ( in eastern Canada's four provinces ) and found none !! But he would order one for me, IF I guaranteed him that I would buy it ! I couldn't do that without a test drive,now could I?
    I mean we don't buy shoes without trying them on, now do we ?
    So I couldn't get one for a test drive, darn it!

  • @modmatt1
    @modmatt1 Před 7 lety

    I like the "real world" loop idea, but driving it to the letter of the speed limit laws is not in a "real world way". My vote is to top off like you did, drive the loop as you would "normally would drive", then swap vehicles, do the loop one more time and see what you get at the end. That way you neutralize the driver and get an more realistic result.

    Hi...13.x mpg for the RAMPW seems ok considering its girth and probably? has 3.92 gears ... (though for comparison sake my 2016 RAM ECOD also with 3.92 gears would easily get 21-23 on a similar loop) ... as for the Frontier .. 27? mpg is probably more of a fluke (distance / fuel level / etc) than an expectation ... also I prefer ELP over RUSH

Also, most of those stations have a mute button to shut those annoying digital advertisers down. Finally, I kindly request Andre's secret to resetting the odometer to zero. 😀

      Growyourmind86 This article shows it can keep an engine up to 19 times cleaner: www.consumerreports.org/car-maintenance/study-shows-top-tier-gasoline-worth-extra-price/ Cleaner engines get better fuel economy. I said can not will. In the case of these long-term vehicles deposits can build up very quickly within 5000 miles. Switching from non top tier to top tier will clean up some of the deposits left behind, equaling better economy.

    • @RCPropaganda
      @RCPropaganda Před 7 lety

      well thats one article, but yeah they legit listed the gas stations and its all thats around so I guess I always am getting top teir gas. I do not go to any weird no name stations my self. I am not brand loyal unless I went some place and noticed they had bad gas I woulnt go back is all.

    that power wagon needs an 8 speed. I have a Chevy with an 8 speed and it's way better than the 6. I'm sure that huge truck could use the extra gears.

    • @skipper5951
      @skipper5951 Před 7 lety +2

      +Brandon Dumblewski 8 speeds adds a lot more complexity to an automatic transmission. In a heavy duty truck, that can become a problem. Another thing, more gears doesn't necessarily translate to better fuel economy, it still depends on shift programming and gearing. If it's spending its time in a more powerful gear, it doesn't matter that it has two more gears above it.

    • @balreadysaid
      @balreadysaid Před 7 lety

      That's too bad. I'd grab one up quick if it was available. The 8 speed in my silverado works the way I like. I tow everyday and do it in a steep hill town. The short gears work great. Lots of stop lights on these hills. I had f150 eco tuned by mpt. I like the 8 speed better stock with a 5.3 v8 towing with a loading bed than that turbo v6 with lots of boost. I guess that's why I like the 8 better than the 6 and think it belongs in everything lol. I get what you mean though Makes good sense.

      My work truck is one of those Ram 2500 trucks with a 6.4L. And it doesn't need more gears. 6 speed is more than enough for that engine.

    I know someone with a V6 frontier, what the combined MPG on that? I roll solo mostly and can make a guest appearance on Trucker Hamburger Warriors (it's a show I'm thinking about creating, where I drive a truck and pickup hamburgers and act tough as a V6)

    27.4? HOLY SHIT! I get an average of 17mpg in my 2016 6 cyl Nissan Frontier (fully loaded sv with crew cab). My commute is bumper to bumper for 1hour each way. It's the ONLY thing i don't like about the "outdated" Nissan. Otherwise, I love the truck!!!!!!!

    • @Welcometofacsistube
      @Welcometofacsistube Před 7 lety +3

      Karl mpg is miles per gallon. Meaning that the Nissan can travel 27 miles with one gallon of gas where the pw can only go 13 miles on one gallon of gas.
      Now see if you can figure out the metric system of L/km

    how can you compare these two power wagon is huge and heavy and nissan is light and 2 wheel drive not a v8. Hell the dodge is like 2 times heavier

    • @anthonyc1883
      @anthonyc1883 Před 7 lety +1

      jason allen, a comparison doesn't necessarily mean a competition. As Andre stated in the video "the trucks couldn't be more different." The very fact that they are comparing a small, base truck vs. a big, loaded truck is exactly the point of the video. In other words, they are providing consumers with a look at what you get with a big truck vs. what you get with a small truck, mileage wise.
