The TetraRacks look to be a very cool solution. I've got a Topeak MTX DX Trunk Bag, Fuel Tank, and Handlebar Bag, but I like the idea of the TetraRack for the front end because it carries much more with the built-in panniers. Cool adventure, too. Thanks for posting and the heads up about the TetraRacks.

Hey, awesome video! Do you still have the racks and panniers?! Still loving them?! Considering buying the front rack and trunk bag setup for my daily commute. I usually have my daughter on the back… not allowing me to install the panniers on the rear rack. ❤😅
Good stuff. Couple of quick questions. 1. Do the Topeak racks negatively effect your suspension ( I guess it could go either way because all of your bags become un-sprung weight, but then again you don't have to adjust your suspension as much to deal with bag weight) and 2. what size AB oval are you using for bikepacking? Thanks.
The Horsetheif has a rugged rear triangle and seat stays so no issues with the rack back there. I believe the oval at the time was a 32 or 34 but I tend to mash gears so it works for me.
That looks like a pretty innovative solution as a way to be able to take a full-suspension MTB bikepacking. Being able to mount a rack that still allows for the suspension to do it's job is not something I recall seeing anywhere else. It looks like you put it through it's paces on some pretty chunky terrain. How did you feel like things bounced around relative to a more traditonal bikepacking setup?
Other than some added noise from the racks on the really chunky stuff, I couldn't find any major concerns with this setup. I think if you were going into areas where the trails were very enclosed by trees and vegetation a conventional bikepacking set up might be lower profile.

They are a solid option. If you get them just like any other gear give them a few months of dedicated use to get them dialed in. My go to for multi day backcountry CT style riding is still an ultralight setup but a rack system can work.

Topeak makes some great gear and the TetraRacks worked perfectly with the MTX trunk bags. Thanks for checking out the video.

My wife and I used to stay in a cabin at Alpine, and hiked the rail trail over that pass a few times. It comes out below St. Elmo though.
That whole area has some really awesome trails and scenery.
