What are your thoughts on The Last of Us getting a physical release this summer on Blu-ray?
@@cursedfishtanx9087 it’s great!
Hearing what Vinegar Syndrome does and how much they care for film gives me a lot of respect for them!
This was about their vault, but I have to mention their customer service. They are happy to help with your problems really fast even they have halfway/blackfriday sales going on.
i was never a vinegar syndrome fan but the last year i realy became a fan keep up good work
Fabulous interview, Jeff. Can't get enough of these talks with people in the industry.
Great episode, am I the only one who thinks Oscar looks like Edward Norton?
I think a cross between Edward Norton and Nicholas Cage.
When I see a new Vinegar 4K release, I just buy... 😂
The Films At Home Podcast is essential viewing/listening.
I 100% agree. With guests or without guests, it's been consistently great
Love those guys!!
Hands down, best label around. Great interview :)
This was great,Jeff! Had a couple questions that you might have found out off camera:
1. How big is the VS archive vault and are they running out of space?
2. How does their partner label program work? Are those films released by partner labels also stored in the VS vault and VS just felt those films didn’t make sense under their label?
This was a really enjoyable episode for me. The people working in this industry are so passionate about it. I'd love to see an episode where you pull in someone or a group of people that worked on the Flash Gordon 4K. That could be a good opportunity to pull in an audio person given the iconic soundtrack.
Great episode! I felt really nostalgic seeing those film cans in the background as I used to be a 35mm film protectionist at a theater from 2001 to 2004. It's cool to hear about the detailed restoration process as well as all the horrible things that happen to film as it degrades/rots etc. This episode had more swears than your normal content 🙉. Thanks for another great episode. Your guest knows his stuff and would be fun to talk to!
It’s neck and neck with The Wolf of Wall Street!
So glad to see this!
A highly informative discussion that could have easily gone on for another hour or two! I have been a huge fan of Vinegar Syndrome for about 6 years now. They are still my favorite boutique blu-ray/4K label working today. The effort that they put into every single one of their releases exudes a ton of care and passion for physical media and film preservation throughout. I am looking forward to future discussions with Oscar at VS!
FANTASTIC episode
This was a great interview. I like a part 2 to this interview sometime in the future.
This was great! I loved it!
Hey, Jeff, could you make a video talking about how or why iTunes has much more 4k Dolby Vision titles compared to Blu-ray. Nolan’s films are only in HDR 10 on disc, but have Dolby Vision on iTunes, along with hundreds and hundreds of other titles. Why isn’t this being done for disc releases as well? Thanks.
This was absolutely fantastic.
Excellent interview! Congrats for the work! 👏👏
Just saw death force a few days ago. Really enjoyed it
Became a subscriber for the first time this year! Best company out there imo, not even close
Fantastic interview Jeff!
well worth a listen
Excellent guy to interview!
Celebrating the KNEW
Christmas bloody Christmas fricking brilliant
Great interview!!! PS(Finally on point on the lighting! It's all in the intensity and color temp.)
Great interview. From Beyond 4K was my fantastic introduction to VS.
Loved deadly manor. Great film. Great episode.
Great job on The Original Amityville Horror movie in 4K
One of the better interviews you done. Glad to see Edward Norton's younger brother is in the business too.
Great episode!!! VS rocks!
Edward Norton in Pride and Glory. Wow!
I really enjoyed this interview! So much time and talent goes into this stuff. Oscar gave a great interview and you asked some killer questions. Thanks for shining a light on this part of the process, would totally watch more like it.
Their recent 4k offerings have been great
Give Oscar a thanks
Awesome content
Thanks
I'd like to see, Phantom Brother, on Blu Ray
Didn’t know Ed Norton works at Vinegar Syndrome.
This is hot! Excellent!
I've bought some of the 4Ks of their more popular titles, like Cloak & Dagger, Texas Chainsaw 2, From Beyond, Thriller, Dead Heat and Road House. Every one of them is a slam dunk in every way.
I don't have an hour to watch this video yet, but i was always curious how vinegar syndrome got their name.
Edward Norton doing good work lately.
"Dog Tags" ??? Is that the 1987 film?? Just trying to find it on IMDb ??
I just realized this doesnt just affect movies, it also effects historical documents, historical news reels, and all kinds of videos.... this is sad!
Oscar is bringing up a lot of good points, about how they used to avoid handling the original camera negatives for fear of damage but now the scanners are much gentler. Also, that even though we might never have more than 4K, it's the compression or potentially in the future a decrease in compression that may still improve. We could get re-releases of films with improvement in compression. So there is still something to look forward to in that aspect.
Some films like LAWRENCE OF ARABIA are scanned in 8K.
@@Theomite Correct, especially films shot on 65mm like Lawrence and My Fair Lady definitely benefit from 8K scanning. But even with 4K, we're not seeing the film at its absolute best because of the compression and encoding.
@@thechairman74 Do you mean the master file off the scanner or the domestic home release version? Because on the domestic front, it's impossible because there is just NOT ENOUGH surface area on a disc for all that data. The UHD disc is the same dimension as the CD, which was originally designed to house 700MB! It's a ridiculous diameter for this media.
@@Theomite Yeah, I mean the raw scanned file prior to compression.
@@thechairman74 Well, is there a formula determining how much the scanner doesn't get? I mean, on a 1:1, what would the K rate be for uncompressed? 16K? 24K?
Please vinegar syndrome please release more titles from crown international. Malibu Beach, the Van, and Van nuys boulevard.
Jeff, what brand are those revolving media towers that you have?
And how tall are they?
WhATS UP
