- Rod Morgenstein's instructional video "Putting It All Together."
This is one of the best instructional videos from the days before CZcams. Rod covers a wide range of topics that are important to just about every drummer.
Rod directly gave me permission to upload this video, with the caveat that he may ask me to take it down sometime in the future. Enjoy it while it's here! [This video is presented without ads, and I am not profiting in any way from it being on CZcams.] - Hudba
I got this video for Christmas in 1991. I also got a Paiste 1000 RUDE Ride/Crash that year (Rod is playing the 3000 series version).
But the video was a huge resource for me. It gave my fifteen year old brain direction, and a launching point.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing that!
The man who taught me how to count in 7/8 time!
Michel Courtemanche on the drum is something else! Kidding! Rod is so good and one of my favorite drummer! thanks for posting this! :)
I've been listening to Rod's drumming since the Dixie Dregs days. One of the very best
THE BEST drum instructional video ever.
I've been playing drums for 30 years and my main influence is Neil Peart but Rod Morgenstein with this video was my teacher......awesome drummer!
Happy you got to see it!
@@PennyLarson I think i got the VHS somewhere in the house! I wanted to rip on dvd but is better to download it from here! (I believe that this video was never released on DVD)
@@DarioDNA1 You are correct. This one, along with several 80's VHS instructional tapes, never made it to DVD. It's a shame.
I love the faces when he plays!!!
Master drummer!🥰
Went to a Rod Morgenstein clinic back in the late 90s. This was right around the release of the first album he and Jordan Rudess did together. Miss him playing the big double bass kit like he did at the clinic. Funniest part of the clinic was Rod lamenting about the character Stewart from Beavis And Butthead. Stewart was the weak, uncool kid who always wore the Winger t-shirt. It was a sore spot for Rod, lol.
I saw him a couple times around that time too, and I totally heard the Stewart story as well.
The beat he plays at 5:39 has been in my brain and arsenal of grooves ever since this video came out! I still play it all the time. And I’m 47 years old now! Plus most of my double bass techniques and fills come from me watching this video! Rod is such a musical drummer and great human being!
yess... i used to watch this many times about 30 years ago, thanks for posting. I went to a clinic of his at the time too. His attitude is as infectious as his drumming skills
You're very welcome; happy to share.
Rod Morgenstein is the man my Idol my favorite drummer killer instructional video
Thanks for posting a true blast from the past. I baught it on VHS in the late 80s and let it go when I sold my first kit I rember it doing so much for my playing at the time happy 😊 days
Happy to help! Rod is my absolute favorite drummer and his instructional materials are some of my favorites as well. This video is such a great of styles and techniques, and the few jams with Jerry Peek are outstanding.
Penny Larson Hey Penny. Rod and I worked intensely hard making this video together along with his wonderful wife Michelle. Thanks so much for posting the full version. I really enjoyed creating it with him then and watching it again now. It really hold ups up in so many ways (and keeps all that unique 80’s style alive forever.)
Rod is such a genuinely nice guy and was really committed to making a video that could really help drummers learn and improve. It’s so wonderful to read all the amazing comments people are making decades later that let Rod know he made a real differences. Great memories !!
@@evanfairbanks2629 Hi Evan, thank you for the comment! I agree that this video, and Rod's style in general, holds up well and is basically timeless. Rod's been my favorite drummer since I first discovered him. I always have trouble ranking my list of favorite drummers, except Rod - he's always at the top. The several times I've met him he's been just an absolute sweetheart. Thank you for the insight into the creation of the video!
Best,
~~Penny
My very first drum instructional video I had no idea he was left handed so I would watch this video with my back to a small TV and a mirror in front of me LOL
OMG thanks for putting this up. I had this when I was young and it taught me so much about playing. I met him in Long Beach NY a few years ago and he was so easy going. Great video
THANK YOU.. Old school friend recommended this highly, it's helping me big time!
Awesome! I'm so glad that Rod's work is still helping people!
Thanks for posting this. Love Rod's playing. Caught him with Winger back in the 90's, and owned a Premier Projector kit he once used. Spent hours watching this video and pulling anything I could from it.
Thank you Penny! The ghost note chapter is pure gold.
You're most welcome. I'm very happy to do my small part in keeping Rod's work alive.
Thank you so much for posting this. I had this VHS and haven't seen the entire thing since college (almost 30 years ago). Rod has always been one of my favorite drummers. I forgot just how jam packed of excellent content and great explanations this video is! I got the chance to see Rod play with the Dregs and Winger. Even wore my Dregs t-shirt to the Winger show and got tons of compliments on it. Thanks again!
You are very welcome! Rod's been my favorite drummer since I was a teenager. I'm very happy to do my small part to help keep his legacy alive.
I will admit that I started listening to Winger because Rod was the drummer. I thought it was amazing that this 80's rock band hired a premier, amazing fusion drummer. But I gotta say, they didn't disappoint. So I have been a fan since the first album.
@@jim.drum67 I always liked hair metal, but Winger definitely became one of my faves in large part because of Rod's drumming.
Thanks for posting Penny! This was one of the best videos - still listen to "Bring 'Em Back Alive" once a week.
Wow this is still really sick and super informative. Can’t believe I’ve never seen this over the years
Yes! the full video so I can once again can see the part at 51:00 since I lost this vhs years ago
That is a pretty great moment. :-) Glad you could see it again!
