There are actually four 10mm bolts to remove as well as many trim clips that aren't shown in this video. In fact, if your car is in stock condition, it's necessary to remove the front grill as well. In the process of trying to change my light bulb following your example, I learned the hard way. A few of the clips were broken in the process. Not the end of the world, but it made the whole experience a lot more frustrating than I was anticipating.
Hey buddy, watched the video yesterday to get an idea of how to do the job on my uncles car. Just came back to say it worked like a charm and thank you for providing short and accurate info so any tool armed with a flat screwdriver and a 10 socket can do the job at home. Took me 20 minutes, including all the insults slung at Subaru.
Thanks and some smart guy on tube saves me heaps of time again. Always good to get the quick way. Spray some Inox (not wd40) in the fitting and test the bulbs before reassembly.
yeah, I started doing it this way and broke a clip that wasn't mentioned. I think the guy that backed into you broke a few more clips in the process. I'm sure this guy is half way there. Info on removing the extra clips would be handy.
Listen robots, i think the man gave us a pretty good idea how to do the job. Naturally you gotta be vigilant while on the process. I had the grill thing today too, but for once, didnt act like a gorilla, investigated all potential brake points before trying to pull the headlight off and straight away noticed the grill clipses. Use a flathead to push them both out qnd you're good to go.
Done well thanks I just changed mine...2003 model is different I had to take my grill off first...that plastic part was a preK the clip broke too so I just glued it back on 😅
Have new clips handy to replace the ones you will break doing it this way. I did it this way, but my arrangement was different on my 2004. I had to remove the grill piece and I broke many clips in the process.
Thanks for posting this video! Can you access the fog light directly below the headlight if you remove the headlight? Have you changed the fog lights on the 03-05 forester?
Hey so I've attempted making a few small engine videos in the past and I always stop filming because it's too much of a chore to constantly keep moving my tripod and adjusting it for different views, and there is no way to easily remove the camera so I can carry it around. What kind of tripod do you use?
I have an ancient tripod from the 1950's that I use. I have no idea what brand it is. I don't film most of my small engine repair jobs for this reason, you're right. It's a pain. I guess you just have to take it easy and understand that it's going to take 3 times as long to do something while filming it as it would not.
I'm trying to remove the screws to the front license plate on a 03 model. They are completely stuck. I've tried with a screwdriver and pliers, and used lots of 5-56 to remove rust/lubricate. Any tips on how to do this? I'm unsure how the screws are fastened on the backside as I can't access the backside of the bumper. Should I just get bigger pliers and go for it? Or do I need to loosen the bumper?
This is exactly the same lights on the same side of my forester What is the bit you used to remove the bolts? I need to purchase one. I couldn’t get a look - too fast.
How useful are these little lights anyway? Mine have never worked, I’ll replace them anyway cuz it’s so easy but can’t really see how they’ll be useful, since they’re so small and the headlights are always on anyway
Hey, don’t know if you’ll see this, but I installed the playonmac following your video, and it worked great for a few days, but then I got 2 new games and they won’t open... They do the start up, then it tries to instal something called directx, says running for a few seconds, then disappears, any ideas? Great video by the way, thanks.

Haha, glad I could help. Swearing always makes it go faster!
Be prepared to break every single one of those clips.....smh
Or even better - use a flathead and dont act like a neanderthal and don't brake any.
If it did work for me, it will work for any other neanderthal.
Thanks. That's really helpful. Changing these bulbs is real pain in the neck

Just the video I was looking for! I own a 2003 forester in india. these videos will help me a lot! thank again.
Your trim piece is missing like 3/4 of the clips, as is your center grill. If they aren't missing/broken, you aren't changing the bulbs this way.
You can if you remove the grill, too. You must have new clips to replace the clips that were broken doing it this way.

Is it that easy to change the lenses also
Yep! Just replace the whole assembly and bolt it back down. These cars are unbelievably easy to repair.
