This is exactly why you should never follow a trucker too closely and why you should never pass them on the right, if not absolutely necessary. Oh, and not speeding in the vicinity of trucks also is a good idea. Yes, some truckers camp out in the middle lane. Even I do it in certain areas. But in an area like this and with these traffic conditions, there is no good reason for me to stay in the middle lane. As such, I use the middle lane only long enough to complete passes, then normally move back to the right-most lane.
If I had a dollar for every time a POV driver tried to - or did - pass me on the right when a lane to our left was vacant and available for their use, I'd be rich. This mentality of the general motoring public needs to change. This habit is why a lot of "run under" collisions involving the fronts of 4-wheelers and the backs of semi trailers occur. I've not been involved in any such collisions, personally, but I have passed by some and even assisted the occupants of a car that was involved in one before.
I watched both the spot mirror and the cam. You're hallucinating.
Nope! The camera is mounted to my door, not my mirror. Convex mirrors can't show what I can see in the flat mirror. My camera is mounted to my door, which causes its view of the rear corner area of the trailer to get obstructed by the sleeper section of the tractor. Trust me, the camera can't see what I was able to see in the flat mirror. The driver attempted to move to the #3 (right) lane at the same time that I was starting to move over there. He backed off and waited for me to finish moving over before passing me on the left.
tbh, I really don't know how or why this video is getting so many views. It's just another "failed pass on right attempt" that myself and just about every other trucker probably deals with at least a couple of times every driving shift.
Smoking something...
Chill driver.. may have been there but I didn’t see a white truck in right mirror.
1. My side cameras can't see as far around the sides of my trailer as the mirrors can show me personally.
2. The pickup definitely tried to pass me on the right, but he started moving in that direction from directly behind me a split second before I started moving back to the right myself.
3. Why pass on the right when there's a wide open lane available to the left? A truck like me is far less likely to move to the far left lane than to the right from the middle lane, plus that's which side we're supposed to be overtaking slower traffic in anyway.
4. I admit that some of my content can come across as "overly dramatic". On the other hand, I've also found that a number of subscribers and other viewers of my content find my reactions to things to be more entertaining than a lot of what the cameras show themselves. I've also had trucker friends tell me they all think the same way, and I just show more outwardly the same things that they think and say to themselves.
5. I know I'm far from the only driver who does this kind of thing. You should see what kind of entertaining things come out the mouths of other drivers when in our Safety office discussing random situations that fellow drivers find themselves in that the company-owned cameras catch.
Everyone around the world is anxiously waiting for the Robot AI truck driver. Then we can easily pass you on the left, since every robot AI truck driver will be happy to plug along in the right lane doing 50 MPH
No, that shows the impatience of the driver that passes on the right. They just don’t get it.
That made no sense at all to me.
The pickup driver tried to pass me on the right at the same moment that I was trying to move back over after passing the slower truck. The side cameras that I'm currently using are mounted to my doors, so they can't see around the sides of my trailer as well as they could if I had a good way to mount them to the mirrors. The timing of the pickup driver's failed attempt to pass me on the right and my own move back to that lane made it impossible to actually see what the pickup driver was doing, but I could clearly see what they were doing while looking in my right side flat mirror at the time.
Where was the fail?
Side camera couldn't pick it up because of where it's mounted on my truck (door and not the mirror housing). Freightliners are tricky to effectively mount exterior cameras to any other way, due to the contour shape of the mirror housings and arms.
But the white truck passed you on the left...
Not until after he tried to move to the right lane at the same time that I was moving into it.
Over here, in France, it is illegal to pass on the right.
I spent time in Italy and recall it being illegal to pass on the right there also. I think it's for very good reasons too. We get a good number of what are referred to as "run under" collisions here in the USA that result from speeding 4-wheelers rear-ending - and ending up under the back ends of - semi trailers. I think most of those would never happen, if American drivers would learn to NEVER pass on the right. Most of them occur when a truck is moving back to the right and a speeding 4-wheeler comes up from directly behind us and moves in that direction at the same time that we are.
I think its illegal in all of europe but people still do it.
@@Chris-hw4mq You're absolutely right.
@jaykilborn2508
France, and Most of Europe do a Lot of sensible things we in America just disregard.
Should be illegal here too. At least to pass big trucks like that.
Just what the roadways need. An angry guy responsible for safely driving 80,000 lbs.
I thought truckers weren't supposed to use hallucinogens while driving. Dude be trippin'.
Camera can't see everything that I can see
There was nobody in the left lanes so he should’ve definitely passed on the left… even if there were cars in the left lane it’s dangerous and stupid to pass on the right. Plus I think saw that the right lane merged closed. It’s most definitely a sign of an inexperienced driver. It’s also illegal to pass on the right in most states “if the conditions permitting are unsafe”. There are many grey areas open for interpretation with passing on the right, which is probably why it’s freaking stupid to do it! 🇺🇸✌️
Hello mate, may I use it in a compilation? Full credits of course.
Yes. Please send me the link to your compilation after you get it posted.
The video may be getting the views because people are rewatching it since they don’t see what you’re referring to with the rant. Although I did see your explanation above about the mirrors. To the average viewer, nobody can see what you’re upset about.
Semi moved right alongside a merge. Bad timing. Where was there a passer on the right? Wierd.
The white pickup that passed me on the left initially tried to move right in front of the other semi and to my right while I was simultaneously moving back to the right myself. The location where my cameras are mounted did not allow viewers to see what was going on there, unfortunately, but I was able to see through my right flat mirror what the driver was doing.
Yes, it was bad timing by the pickup driver - and is also a prime example of why drivers should never move right to pass and always move left to pass instead. The left lane was wide open. There's no good reason to NOT use that lane to overtake slower traffic, especially knowing not every semi driver in the world camps out in the middle lane (though many do).
@@ScottZaneTruckingClips-ht3xjUnfortunately there are way too many trucks that camp out in the middle lane. As truckers, we're not supposed to use that left lane so we're forced to pass on the right. I've heard that mega carrier trainers tell their new drivers it's safer for them to stay there. Maybe it is for them, but not for everyone else. It creates log jams many miles long. And then there's those 4 wheelers who want to drive fast but are seemingly scared to use the left lane...
@@2020HotShotTruckingLLC I agree with all of that and have heard the same about megas (or at least trainers at megas who are improperly trained themselves teaching their own trainees the same crap). That has nothing to do with this clip here though. I was only in the middle lane because I was overtaking a slower truck, then moved back to the right lane when I was a reasonable and safe distance ahead of the slower truck.
To be honest man, you are doing a Huge favor to the kids commenting that passing an 18 wheeler on the Right is a good idea.
You are a Much better man than I am.
I'd just let the kids keep Talking trash.
But that's just me.
Keep on trucking!
🚛🚛
Uhhh…what?
Hi Scott, how's it going? May I feature this clip on my channel? If so, could you tell me where this happened? Thanks for your consideration
Yes, that's fine. This was on westbound I-10 right at the I-8 interchange in Eloy/Casa Grande, AZ
@@ScottZaneTruckingClips-ht3xj Thanks Scott. Happy holidays!
People do that, because you wait until you’re a quarter-mile in front of the truck you just passed before you pull back over
I do that because that's an appropriate distance to be ahead of the person I'm passing before moving over. People don't have a clue what an appropriate and reasonable following distance is. Regardless, more often than not, there is a lane to the left that is available for them to use anyway, so again...why pass on the right when you can pass on the left?
And I know you're exaggerating the distance ahead before I move over, but 1/4 mile is not even close to what I really am before moving over. It's more like 1-2 full truck lengths, if even that. What do you suppose would happen if something happens ahead of me that forces me to hit my brakes hard as soon as I get moved back over, and the person I just passed is less than 1 second following distance behind me? They have no time to react, will rear-end me, and I will be the at fault driver for not giving the other driver enough space or time to get a safer distance behind me.
These 4 wheelers are clueless when it comes to safety. Especially love the ones that floor it to close the gap when you wanna get in the left lane to pass. Inconsiderate idiots out there@ScottZaneTruckingClips-ht3xj
@fatdaddio3796
Haha!
I Truly hope you are Serious!
If you want to pass 18 wheelers on the Right side.
I FULLY ENDORSE AND ENCOURAGE THAT DECISION!!!
You Will eventually learn Exactly why!
Cheers kid! Here is to HOPING you Actually pass them like that!!
I HOPE you do!
