    I have found the best results are from using a full coverage/high pigment product and just blending it into a very thin layer or mixing it with my own primer/moisturizing products to create my own level of coverage. I think that provides ultimate flexibility because you can always sheer out higher coverage, but you can’t build up a light coverage product without using an uncomfortable amount of product. Paying for the pigment is a good motto to go by because then you aren’t just spending your money on the filler/cheap ingredients in a product. I now only use the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation as concealer and foundation and it allows me to apply such a thin layer of product on areas I want coverage, and I just adjust the finish by changing my skin prep beforehand since I don’t like mixing products on my hands. It costs wayyyyy less to buy a $50 foundation that’s 1 ounce (30 mL) than it was to purchase my favorite concealer that I was using as my all over coverage beforehand (it costs $176 per ounce in comparison).

      This is a fabulous tip!! And agreed, I find it so much more affordable to work with higher pigment products and sheer them out.

    Can you do a video about primer? I definitely get a much smoother, long lasting finish with it. However, sometimes a primer and foundation or concealer will NOT blend together? It gets all goopy or pilly. I haven't been able to figure out why.

    • @twoleftfeet9626
      @twoleftfeet9626 Před rokem +35

      It is to do with whether the primer is silicone or water based, and if your foundation is silicone or water based. If the primer and foundation don't match, they will pill and go all horrible as they repel each other. Look on the bottle ingredients. If the first or second ingredient is aqua, it is water based. If not, it is silicone based

      @daynad8104 Před rokem +17

      You also may not be letting your primer dry enough before you start applying your foundation. Or, you could not be letting your skincare products sink in before trying to apply your primer. There are so many factors that go into using primers, a video isn't a bad idea.

      @@girlgetglamorous YES! My skin is dry and flaky (i'm in my late 40s) but I also have acne scars and wrinkles (yay!) and while primers have helped, they also irritate and seem to cause breakouts (no matter how hard I work to remove it). A fast application before work results in dry patches and often I just remove it quickly and then apply Clinique BB cream and go. It doesn't look great but it looks better than all foundations. Maybe make a "How to do Foundation on Skin that refuses to wear Foundation" video? Thanks for your reply and your work, my coloring is similar to yours and I find it's a little harder to get makeup to look good when youre fair? We can't take the color and amount of product that brunettes can.

      Have you tried using a colour corrector under your concealer? Colour correctors work by neutralising undesirable tones on the skin using colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel: the corrector cancels-out a lot of the unwanted colour, so your concealer can do a better job of covering it. The colour needed to correct a brown spot depends on its undertone: if it's yellowish you need a lavender corrector; if it's orangey you'd use blue.
      I hope this is helpful :-)

Creams have more pigment added than liquids, so a cream color corrector should cover better and allow you to use less product!

    So a full coverage foundation does not equate to heavier, just more pigment or more opaque? If that is the case, where have you been all my life, lol?! Or at least the last five years! Because given what you've said, I now want full coverage, not the medium I've been wearing my entire adult life. That must also be why I've been unhappy with serum foundations, nut enough pigment. I switched to those under the impression they would be better for mature skin, but I found the exact opposite, they show every pore and wrinkle, yet cover nothing I want covered. You have changed my makeup game, thank you!

    So what do you do if you’re an oily skinned gal? I feel like the more fuller coverage foundations break up and look way worse on my oily skin than a lighter coverage (which sucks bc most matte foundations are full coverage) but I just feel like full coverage looks awful. After a while. And I also don’t cake it on either. I just find the wear is not as drastic once it breaks up if it’s lighter coverage. What is your full routine: primer, foundation, setting spray etc? I'm wondering if an oil-control spray to set the foundation might help...

      @@girlgetglamorous Yes! Usually i have moisturizer and my spf under and then a primer (mattifying) then foundation, powder, spray.
      I do find that weirdly its the powder that contributes a lot to the cakey appearance. I haven't ever just tried only setting spray. I did see your video on that hack for concealer though, and I might have to give it a try. Also, any tips on how to apply it with a makeup sponge that doesn't make it look cakey? I find brushes work best to apply lightly, over a sponge, but maybe I'm doing it wrong.

    I found that once I started shaving my face I got longer lasting, smoother makeup. It also helped clear up my skin. It's also easier to make sure you've cleansed your face properly BECAUSE... nothing can get left behind or left clinging to your facial hair. I normally double cleanse when washing away makeup but either way shaving your face can also help clean away dead skin cells. Guys do it and have great skin. Women should do it too 😊

    This got me wondering if my foundations are misbehaving because they are getting old? Some of them seem to be not so smooth anymore. I end up taking them off and starting over … which means I have to reapply skin care and everything. It’s costing me time and money to continue this way. 🙁

    Do the products say full coverage on them? Sorry if that is a silly question. Still have so much to learn at my age which is not young.

    • @girlgetglamorous
      @girlgetglamorous  Před rokem

      Hi Teresa! Not silly at all, great question actually! And you can ask me anything here. Most will have the coverage level in the description. For example on sephora and ulta’s website, it will be marked on the product page. For drugstore, I recommend checking out target or ulta websites to see if the coverage is listed before shopping. Most will share if it’s light, medium, or full coverage. The majority of foundations are also “buildable” meaning if you have a medium coverage foundation you love, you can usually apply a second layer as needed without it pulling up the first layer and making it patchy. So I definitely recommend checking out those description pages! I hope this helps 🧡

    I think I missed the tip? Wear test on them? How'd they hold up? Settle into lines? Make large poses look worse or covered?

    • @girlgetglamorous
      @girlgetglamorous  Před rokem

      Hi Jamie, the tip is to cycle your foundation coverage levels, based on the amount of surface tones, instead of trying to use a lighter coverage product year round. For wear tests and close ups, I have a lot of concealer and foundation videos on my channel that might be what you are looking for! This video is focused on the specific tip of light vs medium or full coverage. I hope this is helpful!

    Is it one pea size per side or for the whole face?

    • @girlgetglamorous
      @girlgetglamorous  Před rokem

      Hi! It varies based on my surface tones that day, but for this video, it was one pea size drop (one pump of the Nars foundation) for one side of my face. Generally, I will start with one pump for my whole face and see how much that covers that day, then add another as needed and build up that way to get the right coverage level. I hope this makes sense!

    I prefer using a build able cover foundation so I can use more layers only where necessary. What is your opinion?

    • @girlgetglamorous
      @girlgetglamorous  Před rokem +1

      Absolutely! Use whatever foundation texture suits you best. I love the Armani Luminous Silk and Koh Gen Do medium coverage foundations, I just tend to use a little more of them when my surface tones are coming through. The key is just to get a really smooth base and if you don’t mind using a bit more of the medium coverage product, I say go for it!

    I have tried everything to get a smooth even coverage but nothing has worked! I have rosacea and very uneven skin tone....I have tried water based, silicone based primers and foundations...I'm on a good skin care regimen but for the life of me i cannot get coverage without caking and splotches...I moisture and exfoliate....the more i mess with my red cheeks the worse they look when applying foundation...I'm not going to ever get flawless or perfection but would at least like it to be smooth....

    • @girlgetglamorous
      @girlgetglamorous  Před 9 měsíci

      Have you tried the Koh Gen Do foundations? They are used without a primer and really kind of miracle workers on all skin types. In the past when I have been on medications that changed my skin, they were the only ones that worked for me. They are a bit pricey, but not having to use a separate primer saves $ and they do go on sale.

    I am confused. I like a tinted moisturizer for my face instead of a foundation. Are you saying that my makeup will never look blended because of this? Please help? Thank you.

    • @girlgetglamorous
      @girlgetglamorous  Před rokem +2

      No, no! Just saying IF your other makeup is looking blotchy, it might be time to use a fuller coverage foundation or BB/CC cream. I cycle throughout the year: lighter coverage products when I have a faux tan (the tan corrects a lot of surface discolorations) and I switch to medium-to-full coverage when my skin is lighter and those surface discolorations are more visible. Does that make sense?

    • @girlgetglamorous
      @girlgetglamorous  Před rokem +2

      I genuinely love the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer that I am wearing in the video and have been purchasing it for 20+ years, I just tend to switch to a heavier coverage product when my skin surface tones need extra coverage, instead of using layers of the TM to try and cover them.
