Hey guys, in todays video we will be discussing a very simple funk bass line that can have a big impact on your bass playing. I learned a bass line similar to this from the RHCP song "Sir Psycho Sexy" when I was about 15 years old. It stuck with me and over time I heard remnants of this bass line and similar lines in so many different songs and jams.
Learning one bass line such as this can help you in many ways...
1. It can give you a fun musical idea to create an exercise out of for a more repetitive type of practice.
2. It can give you something to lean on in a jam session or even a writing session when ideating a song.
3. It will help finger dexterity and hand strength.
4. It helps view the fretboard in a vertical sense and horizontal perspective.
5. It can help you hear the details between all of the scales you have learned and practiced so far - combining them into one bass line that is much more practical and fun to play.
I hope you all enjoy learning this bass line as much as I did - please let me know your thoughts down below in the comments.

I've heard somewhere "make music when you are practicing music", and I think that is at the heart of this lesson.
I couldn't agree more - and what a good quote. It has to be practical, real music for your brain to believe it I think!
Great groove
Thanks so much for stopping by and listening!
No worries good luck keep going
The… SOUND on that Jazz, tho’… 😎😎🔥
Flats? DI..? Or..?
Great little lesson, man!
Thanks for watching! Flats yes - they’re about 3 years old and super dead - going DI into my Apollo X6 with a couple simple plugins and that’s it really!
@@carmeeno Thought so… Great sound, man! 👍👏 And a rather nice ‘to-the-point’ lesson. Subbed. 👍
@@ColonelJedburgh Thank you very much! and thanks for the sub - more on the way.
Carmine thank you so much for this video! It has enlightened me so much on how to perform that incredible funk sound. I didn’t mind you instructing throughout the video, I can hear you and the melodic sounds from your bass. It would be nice if you could create a PDF for us to follow as well. 😃
Thanks Joey I really appreciate your comments and happy you enjoyed the video!! The pdf idea is a really good one, I will definitely take that into consideration and as things advance I’ll work on that - I appreciate you
Great practice lesson, well done!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I appreciate the comment
This was very slick. Planning to work at this. Subscribed!!
Thanks so much for stopping by and subscribing - I really appreciate it
Carmine u the man bro!
Thanks for stopping by John Bon!
Great video! Please tell us about your great looking jazz bass! Is the neck edgeless?
Thanks for watching! Maybe I’ll talk about it one day haha - it’s a pretty basic Mexican Jazz - but man has it served me well
Good quality stuff man how long. Have u made videos
Thanks for stopping by!! I appreciate it - I’ve been making videos in a lot of different lanes for about 7 years now but just about a year into bass vids
@@carmeeno will us bass players Got to stick together so I subbed
@@ticsbassplace thank you sir! I subbed to yours as well - keep making stuff
Real Nice Bro !! Are those drum tracks available somewhere to riff over ? Thanks
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video! These are all from Splice so there is a small subscription fee but also there are a ton of breaks and beats just like this and many more samples to play to - also sometimes just searching beat style and bpm on youtube will yield me good results for playin along as well
@@carmeeno Awesome ! Thanks Carmeeno 👊🏽
Subcribed !!! How about a lesson on practice with a metronome ?
Thanks so much! Love it - anything in particular with playing to metronome? Lmk
@@carmeeno something basic. Using the metronome to improve timing and groove. TY for looking at my suggestion.
Love the idea - lookout for the topic sometime in the future - thanks again 🙏🏼
Нужно просто сыграть сначала и параллельно показать табы. И все. И просмотров будет больше. А так вы разговариваете, что неинтересно. И еще в начале сыграли незначительный кусочек.
Dude very helpful seen so many videos of different people but you exponential make more sense 🤔🤘🏼✊🏼🇵🇷😶🍺
Thank you very much that means a lot! I am just trying to keep things simple and explain in a normal way - take the intimidation and complexity out of some of this stuff.
Great video but it'd be nice if you didn't talk so much. 2 minutes in already and you're still talking😢
Thanks for stopping by, I will take that into consideration 🙏🏼
