I love how a dedicated soldier avenging his family and fallen brothers-in-arms gets called a "right-wing revenge fantasy" but a former hitman avenging his dog is totally fine.
I enjoy both the Terminal List and John Wick but if that isn't some flawed logic, I don't know what is.
If Top Gun Maverick starred anyone else besides Cruise they would have called it right wing revenge fantasy to. Crazy times

I started using that as a barometer for whether I should consider watching a show about 8 years ago and it's never steered me wrong yet.
If the Drinker says it good while the activists…I mean critics…say it’s bad, then it’s worth the watch

I kept waiting for that "hero" moment when the main character realized revenge wasn't worth it. I am happy to say James Reese just powered through that and just kept laying people out. Very satisfying.
Revenge has been something Hollywood's badmouthed for decades. Not becasue they have the "emotional maturity" to look past things, or really think that its self destructive, but becasue the people who write for Hollywood are too weak and fearful to take revenge when they should. They'd rather slink away, avoid confrontation, and think they're "sophisticated adults" for doing so.
That said, I'm obviously talking about normal situations, not stuff that usually doesnt happen in real life, like in the Terminal List

When you dead either way only living is a punishment. Great Show and agree very satisfying to say the least.
He went a bit overboard for my tastes, everyone even slightly involved, down to the cleaner working for the corpo gets killed. Basically 95% of the cast in the show is dead by the end and around the 2nd to last episode I thought it should have run its course. Particularly the last 2 targets on the list. Apart from that I enjoyed it though.

Each episode just kept getting better. Chris Pratt surprised me in this. Also can we just talk about the line from episode 6 about pushing a man to violence who’s spent his entire life perfecting it? Fucking goosebumps.
Episode 6: That's when they pretended infra red cameras couldn't tell the difference between batteries and a person... And "trackers" hadn't seen or heard of a drone...
That line hit hard. It’s shows like this that are done well and you can see it all the way through.

Those first two episodes did have me genuinely confused if Reece was actually just bonkers and that he killed his own family. I’m thinking like “no! There’s no way they’re gonna subvert my expectations like this! I CAN ALREADY TELL WHO THE BIG BADDIE IS SUPPOSED TO BE WTH” and then episode 3 came along and I realized that I wasn’t crazy and life was good once again
I wished it leaned more into that but there were only 8 episodes

@@thevrana Of course it won't work if you keep the same script and dialogue and just swap the gender. How many women are there that are on the ground doing special ops in real life? Now a military thriller with a female lead could work, get rid of the woke writing and and you might have a better chance to do so, and I'm sure The Drinker would say the same.
This series was surprisingly excellent. Chris Pratt was really good and he also produced it.

Frankly I did not find it so good, but maybe because it was too much of "Deja Vu" I mean every themes aborded in the series have had multiple movies about already and now they make a serie with all of it in

Many actors who blow up in comedy shows have this problem, people cant imagine them playing in real movies, comedy seems easy. John Krasinski (Jim from The Office) as Jack Ryan was also surprisingly good.

There's a bunch of good lines. My favourite is, "You guys, you wanted in on the fray. You're on the battlefield now."
Also, complex characters. Again, like Drinker said, all the staple elements of a show pike this are in there. Ben was a friend who didn't bargain to have James family murdered. Hartley realised she was in the wrong and took steps but she just didn't go far enough and it weighs on her in the end. You think Katie is gonna a pain in the a*s reporter, but she actually acts and takes steps and plays the game like I've seen journalists play. Chris Pratt has spent years making my family laugh. This show, he made them cry. Mark of a great actor who is wearing his character like his skin.

seeing the critics call it an "unhinged right-wing revenge fantasy" had me telling my parents it should be the next thing they binge XD (and binge it they did. They loved it)
Those also never fail to be entertaining.
Charles Bronson in Death Wish was smeared as just that. And it's an excellent film. It works because Paul Kersey in the first film was a conscientious objector and after he intervenes and beats up his first street robber he, like any normie who realises what they've let themselves in for, basically runs to the toilet and is violently sick.
The sequels are kind of memeworthy though.
Funny thing is it wasn't even inherently right wing in it's political messaging, assuming it even had deliberate political messaging at all which I'm not convinced it did. If there's any message to be taken from this show, it's that the government and corporations can't be trusted. That's hardly a divisive opinion nowadays lol.

This TV show actually had realistic characters making human decisions, comments, and interactions. Nobody was a caricature, or parody over the top actor. Makes a change this day and age
Exactly, and they act like the characters they are playing. Not like the execs making the movie would act if they were in the story. Constance Wu as the journalist made all the moves journalists make. Jeanne Tripplehorn was my second favourite character after Chris Pratt. She is fully aware of her actions and realises that she didn't do enough when things got out of hand so she tries to do better after the fact, until she realises some sins cannot be forgiven. She's not just "evil corrupt government lady."
Ben IS James friend but he skips missions because he points out how his office is questioning his irregular hours. His character was also neat and complex. He wasn't just "friend who betrays".
To be fair, Chris Pratt was one of the Navy SEALs in Zero Dark Thirty. Although his role was small, he definitely did it really well and felt authentic. So although that's hardly what he became known for, I could definitely see him in something like this and it didn't disappoint!
Chris Pratt doing that movie actually got him this role, while he was doing research for ZDT one of his SEAL escorts and him got talking and hit it off. Later that SEAL met Jack Carr and asked if he could get some early copies of The Terminal List for him and a friend (Chris Pratt) that SEAL was the Actor Playing Boozer.
I love how "THE MESSAGE" is now a common phrase. People are starting to turn around in the masses and shove identity politics in TV shows back into the gutter. I want TV shows and movies to be entertaining without BLATANT politicisation of their content. I'm so glad I'm seeing classical movies and TV shows again. And ya know what? IT FEELS GOOD.
Well, this guy loves to complain about silly or harmful messages in media, which I agree with, but what I don’t get is why he complains about messages that actually make sense and are good.
Everyone is sick and fed up of "THE MESSAGE" movies and series . I used to be hardcore collector of films, I used to watch a movie or a show every single night of the week and a few (sometimes more) were really good and I'd add them to my collection when they came out. Now I can honestly say I'm lucky if I enjoy a handful of movies per year. I don't even feel the same excitement or buzz I used to feel when a movie came out. I don't know anyone in real life who actually enjoys THE MESSAGE movies/series most people unfortunately watch them because they have little choice, they come home from work or get a hour when the kids go to bed and they just watch whatever's on. I did love the black phone which I saw a few days ago though and I'm enjoying Better Call Saul

Chris Pratt’s mental and emotional conflict in this movie, along with his acting, had me crying like a baby several times throughout the show. Absolutely fantastic television in a world where it’s sorely missed.

Why do they need that crap just put the action in not touch feely shit. If i want emotional crap i'll hang out at an office watercooler in my spare time.
Not gonna lie, I burst into tears at Chris' performance when he found his family at the end of episode one. There was a grief there I didn't think he could pull off and I think it took me by complete surprise. I was hooked on the show from that moment.
Pratt was nothing short of great in this role. Very believable. Honestly his best performance imo
Contrast that to the feeling of exhilaration when he literally gutted their killer.

The best way to watch this show is actually to know literally nothing about it.
Even talking about the first episode is a huge spoiler that would kill the tension they deliver on so well.
Dude, I'm more or less halfway through and I seriously consider it to be so well written that I would buy into a Fight Club style subversion at the end.
Or maybe the implying of a possibility that the plot will take such twist is the subversion itself.
Creators of the terminal list did a good job.

Honestly I wish I hadn’t read the book first. The show is good but it can’t compare to the book and I think it would’ve been more enjoyable if I’d done it in reverse order
Right, because I really thought he killed his family, I'm only on episode 3. I saw Carr's interview on Joe Rogan a while back and just recently decided to watch it.
My father (a firefighter) loved the show, and his friend (an ex army ranger) also loved the show and they talked about it for a long while. If a ranger thinks it's good it's probably good
The market is saturated with books like this. On the one hand you have a gem like Terminal List. On the other hand, I cannot believe how they messed up The Gray Man. As someone who loves the books, they got everything from the casting to the tone of the story wrong.

@@edun4513 The books are cool. The Gray Man is almost like John Wick or Batman. Everyone knows he's a force ir an entity, even if they don't know his identity. And the quips in the movie feel more like a Marvel thing. In the books, he's way more serious. He'll say one or two funny things, but he's a soldier above all. And he's on the run, being disavowed by the CIA.
as a former Marine, this was a breath of fresh air. Love the action, and the weapons handling was top notch as well. Glad you reviewed this.

A US military group defeated by Syrians; I do like that.
I am not American and am just about the farthest thing away from a veteran, but I still enjoyed the heck out of this show. I did not think Reece was presented as a moral paragon, since Buranek is there as a strong, daring and confident counterpart for him. The show isn’t preachy, tho. You can choose to disagree with Reece’s quest for revenge and still empathize with him. Imagine that: being brave enough to trust your audience to make up their own minds.
This was the Punisher show we never got and Pratt was as terrific as terrifying! Top notch.

The only thing you didn’t mention was the complete and absolute commitment to portray special ops guys as they really are; not just how they move and handle weapons in war, but what they’re like in civilian life. And the fact the creator of this whole ip is a 20 year veteran SEAL commander with extensive combat experience.
I noticed Pratt switching hands with his rifle as he was walking through the interior of a building (I think in the Mexico episode). I don't really know if that's a thing that's taught in special forces, but it seemed like a detail that they intentionally added in. It felt authentic.
Yes because every Navy Seal has a safe at home thousands of dollars of cash on hand. Even though they make maybe 4k a month and support a wife and child.... pffffff

you get 10-12k for entering the seals training and 40k on graduation. A commander which the character was would be paid 5.5k a month and all seals can earn special warfare incentives of a possible 1k a month. He does get a top up from his pal down south as well remember
@@SenorQuichotte I made more than $4500 a month as an E5 with more than 12 years time in service, back in 2004. He is the equivalent of a Major in the other branches, O5, and the base pay is $6112 if they come in as an O5. They can make $10,384 a month with 22 years time in service. Combat pay, jump pay, family separation, BAS, BAH, and other allowances all add up. Then you have the bonuses for signing, making it through training, and reenlistment bonuses for some jobs. For a while USAF LAN/WAN Admins were getting $60k to reenlist.
Until you hit E5 and O3 its a struggle though, not gonna lie. You barely get paid enough to do much of anything until you have 8 years and have made E5 or O3. My E5 pay was higher than O1 and O2 pay when I got out, which is very different from when I first enlisted in 1988. Back then an E9, the highest enlisted rank got paid less than an O1, the lowest commissioned officer rank. My first paycheck in 1988 was $710 for the entire month.
You'd be surprised to see what I can do with $4k a month.
This is Chris’s best performance to date imho. One that will allow him to break out of the “goofy badass” type set he was starting to get set into. Absolutely nailed it!

I’m almost mad that a 2nd season is in the works. Everyone has been scratched off the list, James is on a boat sailing away to anywhere, and the series is at a great stopping point. Some stories just need to end no matter how popular it is, which I feel is why popular shows get ruined.

Yeah but It's based on books, they are not translated in my language but from what I saw, the author wrote 3 novels on that character.
I figured at the end he was sailing to see Raife, who left the boat for them.
That’s a title problem, the Terminal List was book one of the series, there’s five books total and I guess they all expand off of the first story. The Show had a lot of things left open at the end, so it can still feel like a continuation of the story.
But he's not "sailing off to anywhere". They specifically show a map of the African coast of Mozambique, hinting that's likely where he's charting a course to. And remember that Raife Hastings is out there and yet to have been shown on screen. He owed a favor to Reece and had provided the boat and Barrett .50 sniper rifle and ammunition used in the assault on the estate in the final episode. And Katie the reporter had a file on Raife in her papers as we see the last of her in the final episode.
Lots of directions to go from here, especially with so much untapped source material from the other books in the series.
What I liked about the show was that especially the „good“ people on his list got the chance to state their motivation… Which actually made sense from their point of view… That is what incredible good writing looks like. Giving each character their own thinking and motivation that is actually understandable.
This showed Chris Pratt in a really different light. When he walks into his house and sees his family dead. You can see his whole world crumble… it’s like the human James Reece dies and the animal is released. Pratt in this and guardians of the galaxy (old marvel) are top notched in my book; when it comes to an actor, Chris Pratt really gives you an experience. (Except in jurrasic world but I blame the writers)

My father is a army vet. A grizzled old school man’s man and he LOVED this show. It was really nice to be able to sit with him and watch his enthusiasm rise with each episode. Jack Karr was right when he said these are the types of men this show was made for, and it was special to share that with my old man.

Well, The Terminal List wasn't made for soft, weird, mentally ill subhumans who can't define what gender they are and would lose a war to a dozen cockroaches. I like how Karr openly reversed the roles. This had a target audience, that being sane men and women who enjoy good content.

@@samwise8565 I like how the director for the film was a black woman who then decided it'd be empowering to make the protagonist a black girl because it'd be "a strong message" to have a white boy following a black girl... Just shows how sick these people are.
And what I find even more ironic is that when the film tanked and lost them over $160M, they didn't mention that bit. They just mentioned how it was a crowning achievement for being the highest grossing film helmed by a black woman...

Yeah it definitely rides the line of dorky and geeky. I know a lot of corny but great dudes who loved this. To each their own, and I’m glad it’s there.
Read the books. You’ll be even more amazed at how good the story is. The show changed some things significantly but it’s still better than anything else out there.
Low critic scores vs good audience scores is now my best metric for judging movies

Would also suggest checking out The Old Man.
That's the thing that makes this show stand out--there was no message. It was pure story. At no point did it ever feel like the cast were giving you side eye while delivering a monologue about patriarchy or BLM or the horrors of capitalism or anything like that. You could just enjoy the show for what it was.
There's a reason why this show and Top Gun have done so well this summer while everything else loaded with "The Message" has flopped. I really hope there are still enough people left in the entertainment industry who have a brain and see what The Terminal List and Top Gun have accomplished. That there's money to be made when you deliver a quality product.
As for the critics. They gave Cuties--a movie for pedophiles--glowing reviews. That says all you need to know about their view of the world.
You were right until the end. It seems you did not understand Cuties. It was a movie against pedophilia, a trigger alarm for people to understand that child sexualization is wrong. I am amazed at how hypocrites can americans be. They call Cuties a pedophile movie while americans attend child beauty pageants where 5-7 year old girls are dressed and make up as whores and that's OK.
There was a clear alternative message, officers in the military are bad and private contractors are evil.
@@Andrew_NJ Reece was an officer. Anyway, the show was a military conspiracy thriller, so of course some officers are going to be bad. And guess what, a lot of officers in the military ARE bad. Private contractors are just an easy target when you need a battalion of disposable bad guys to get mowed down.

Just watch the last episode, loved this show. It was thrilling and entertaining. It's not often that shows like this come out. Chris Pratt does an excellent job handling the weapons in the show also, he definitely had some proper training. That is one of the most annoying aspects of action movies/shows is the improper handling of weapons and tactical situations.
They might have had experts on set, I noticed many small but realistic details that shows and movies tend to get wrong
Terminal List subverted my expectations by giving me what I actually wanted: a tightly paced action thriller, absent of “the message.” A solid 4/5 for 2022.

It actually did subvert some expectations
There were some moments where I began to question the actions and motivations of certain characters
Some characters I can smell a mile away that they were corrupt to their core while others I saw as doing what they did because they felt that they wanted to do the right thing.
But in the end, justice came. In some form or another.
Yah, this is the Without Remorse we should have gotten, tbh. (i'd have prefered a near-straight book-to-screen adaptation of that fantastic Tom Clancy book, but what can i say about the version they gave us? I didn't even bother watching it tbh. I've read Clancy's Without Remorse 2-3 times and it's truly great though. Very similar sort of experience one might have while consuming The Terminal List! intensely fascinating, epic humanity in its repeatability, and oh so visceral at times that you just need to consume it a bit more slowly than some things.
I know Chris Pratt is meant to be Mr Funny Guy and all. But damn, this is by far his best performance in my book.
I watched this show with friends because I'm a reader and this is my genre. My friends, who didn't shed a tear at Infinity War ended up drying their eyes at several parts of The Terminal List. Chris Pratt nails this role and I hope it opens up more roles and avenues like this for him.
This show is so good. I thought I'd just watch an episode or two and go to bed, but I stayed up the entire night... You just can't stop. It's that good!
This show was the best new thing I’ve watched in a while. Got hooked from the first episode and couldn’t stop watching. Chris Pratt really killed it in this role. Looking forward to season 2!

Yeah, by the end I was begging for James to stop. Hoping he'd find a cure and live. And the final twist made me tear up, even tho I saw it coming
30 year career infantryman here. Yeah there were some eye rolling moments, but I really enjoyed this series in a sea of crap being offered up as entertainment. Some moments I choked up, and had to stop myself from binging through it to savor and really chew on what I watched. Congrats to Carr and Pratt.

I was really impressed with this show. Obviously it’s not perfect and it has a plot similar to other military action thrillers, but it didn’t feel like the show was trying to preach to me. It was just good entertainment that I could escape into for a bit, which is what movies/shows used to be. Also, I think Chris Pratt put in a great performance
Watched the show and damn it was cool. I really loved how Reese prepared for each encounter, and was stone cold, when people fought back, like the guy he had restrained with zipties, who start hitting Reese and you expect some kind og fight, bit Reese simply eliminates him with a single shot. Effective and controlled.
Such a breath of fresh air, when soldiers act like soldiers, not action heroes.
I enjoy this show so far. A rare gem to find a series like this nowadays.

A couple neighbors of mine are fairly recent ex-Army, and both use "brother" as a standard in conversation when I see them at parties/BBQs with everyone. "Hey, brother, glad you came!"

I remember back in the seventies '2000ad' ran a series called 'Mach 1' - he was a kind of cross between 007 and the 6 Million Dollar Man: he'd fight the generic terrorists and evil people but then the story went to a different level when he began to realise the people he was working for were far worse. In the end he was shot dead by the British army while he was trying to help someone escape from captivity. Amazing story and it's a pity it was never made into a film.
The only critic I listen to is the Drinker, keep up with the great commentaries!
It delivered what it promised. More of this please. Seeing Chris Pratt as as James Reece gives me new found respect of his range as an actor. Taylor Kitsch is Solid as always and even the charisma vacuum that is Jai Courtney managed to dish out a solid performance. Shout out to Constance Wu as the nosy reporter looking for the story of her life who even as a supporting character is given enough time to develop her story arc. Looking forward to Season 2.
Jai does a good job in most roles he plays. Seems to really have nailed down the bad guy role which is one of the hardest to do in movies.

Had ot playing in the background while playing mobile games. As a multitasker the story drove me in nicely. Had been resisting to watch it because I thought it'd be crappy political propaganda or something, but out of boredom and while drinking some beers, decided to give it a go. I was impressed

Yeah Amazon is nailing these. Reacher, Jack Ryan and this are all good stuff. They have some other good stuff too even in fantasy land, like Carnival Row which doesn't shy away from strong and empowered woman but also doesn't insult man, both can be competent and resourceful in their own way. It also has that cool sort of OG Star Trek or the Witcher books take on some civilizational issues, it's nuanced. I liked it. I hope second season won't be disappointing. The fact that it's original content and not an adaptation makes it even cooler.
Although to be fair, they fucked up why Venezuela is a shithole.

I finally got around to watching this, mostly because of your review. I loved it. This was on par with The Punisher, and with respect to the mental health portion, this is what Moon Knight should have been.
"I didn't make it for the critics..." should be the motto for future directors and writers.
Three things made this one of the best series ever: 1) Pratt turns out to be a master actor, 2) the action pulls absolutely no punches, and 3) there is not the slightest trace of wokeness. I will probably watch this multiple times.

Finally got around to watching the first episode. I'll admit, I wasn't expecting much, even with Drinker's recommendation. Modern action films and shows just haven't been doing anything for me. However, I am hooked. I'm just mad I watched the first episode so late at night. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to watch more, but the first episode was freaking EXCELLENT. Did such a great job of making you uncertain about what really happened and what might have been due to Pratt's character's head injury. So much uncertainty, so much trauma, and the action scenes, particularly at the end, were top-notch. Can't believe how well Pratt transitioned to a gritty, dramatic role.
This is a great series. That girl of his, with the onesie and the cape, being raised to be a real strong woman and a patriot. And then her and her mother getting killed. Shit, that broke my heart. Those flashbacks of her had me tearing up. And the rest of it, fucking awesome. I saw that interview on Tucker too, and he mentioned one of the reason why he wrote it was his disdain for the ladder climbing, desk officers who have been failing up for the last 20 years and suffered no consequences for their terrible command decisions. As a former Marine, that, I could relate to that. He makes the distinction between the line officers and the non-coms who do the real fighting and winning and the clock punchers putting in their time so they can go get on the board of a defense contractor company and keep feeding at the trough.

I hated the flashbacks, it just dragged the series on and I wanted to fast forward past them as they were incredibly boring. I also couldn't stand the childish enlisted vs officer mentality story line, it is another reason I could not stand the author.

So I decided to give Terminal List a go. WHOA! Right from the jump hubby and I were frozen in place, staring at the screen, jaw at maximum droppage! We spent two nights binge watching the whole thing even though we had to stay up till 3am to finish each time.
Drinker is 100% spot on. Chris Pratt has achieved harmonic convergence as the super soldier out to avenge a terrible wrong. Lots of very satisfying payback against well played bad guys. Plot twists fly around like shrapnel. Action scenes are worth a second look so thank God for technology. We hit replay a half dozen times.
Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher) is pitch perfect as a heartless captain of industry and special forces wannabe. Constance Wu keeps up with the big boys as a restless reporter in pursuit of THE STORY that will nail her the fame she lusts for. Taylor Kitsch is a well rounded brother in arms willing to stroll through the gates of hell for his friend because that's what honor and loyalty require.
Everyone involved in all eight episodes did an amazing job in this compelling adventure story. We loved the plot, characters, actors, photography, and score from start to finish. And although the cast is very diverse, each member is stand alone strong. Women are determined, capable, and talented but never give off even a whiff of Mary Sue crap. There are weak natured, evil bad guys but they come in all flavors so there's no White Men antipathy either.
I am grateful to see that Hollywood can still turn out hero stories that inspire and excite. This show is going on my repeat list.
Rule of thumb, if the critics hate it, then it must be good...
I remember watching it and thinking, "Damn, it's pretty good." and nearly watching the entire series in one sitting, which is saying a lot, because almost no other show has made me lose track of time watching one in years Iike this one has. So yea, I'd definitely recommend it to just about anyone. Really good stuff.
The only recent Amazon show which kept me sitting and watching it through in one go like that was Reacher.

The Terminal List is the BEST action series I have ever scene IMO. It doesn’t get better than this. It’s a great story, great acting, directing, real men, great supporting cast and has realistic action scenes with proper weapon handling. Give me more of this!!!
A few years ago Pratt had a small role as the villain in a somewhat forgettable western called The Kid, with Ethan Hawke and Dane DeHaan. And man, was he terrifying. He's been pretty smart with his movie career, securing big roles as an affable, sarcastic, PG-13 action hero before he really branches out, but I have no doubt that he took that little cameo in The Kid just so he could show people his range. He absolutely nailed it in this show.
Its success is important. It opens the door to the Hollywood echo chamber, waking up producers to realize that there's a massive untapped market of conservative and apolitical people out there who respect (or serve/served in) the military, don't trust higher government, keep their families together, own guns, and generally don't like being painted as society's deadliest poison. Hopefully it results in similar adaptations.
We just need Amazon to notice this Ryan Drake fellow.

@@zakattk001 I actually rewatched ZDT a couple of weeks ago. He's great in it, but it's a pretty standard role for him. A couple of sarcastic lines here and there. Nothing to suggest he would someday play someone like James Reece.
Carr was an actual operator and fairly involved with the production so makes sense that it's actually solid along with the books.
Same thing with Reacher and Lee Child. If Tolkien was still alive, Amazon wouldn't be given the chance to fuck up his world.

Stopped the video at 5 seconds to go and watch the show. I may or may not comment further when I have tried it. Just want to say that this channel is the only one where I can hear someone talking mostly sense and not attacking me if they are wrong.
This is just like with the game "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order", all elements in the game are known, existed for ages, but are now reshuffeled in a grounded (within the existing universe) fun experience that doesn't overstay its welcome. No pandering to the shareholders or SJW.

With "Terminal List" I had the same, it's a grounded 'real' (for the most part) story, with a plausible series of events. No wheels that need to be (re-)invented. Just a good story that as a non-american, non-veteran, but avid gamer I could understand and 'feel'. I binge-watched it and wanted more.
“Pandering to the shareholders” is usually just making a good show that will be popular and make money.
Personally, I’m sick of the mentality in the entertainment industry that money shouldn’t matter and that art school indoctrinated “creatives” must be given free reign to make anything they want with no input from the people who’s money they’re using to make it.
That’s how we ended up with every film pushing THE MESSAGE to begin with.

@@deriznohappehquite it's not as simple as that. Part of a company's ESG rating nowadays, which is one of many ratings used to advise investors on how investible a company is, is often literally just THE MESSAGE. How "diverse and inclusive" their hiring policy is for example.
Granted that's not done for moral reasons, it's because woke news media and investment ratings companies are basically holding a gun to their heads. If they don't follow the message, then there is a higher likelihood that their company will be exposed to public controversy that could damage its value. But if they toe the line, and keep their ESG/D&I rating high, they can stay off the radar.
In other words, shareholders often actually have an incentive to support woke companies because they're lower risk.

Finished this show last night. Loved it overall. There were a few minor bits that I would have preferred been done differently, but I'll take imperfect but unapologetic entertainment over imperfect but preachy garbage any day.

It’s funny how actors in the MCU, when given a competent and quality scrip, can actually act and well. Chris pratt in this, Chris Hemsworth in extraction and Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock. Just shows how the MCU underutilises what quality talent they really have in their arsenal. Would also love to see a review of Sherlock
Thankfully Sherlock came out LOOOOONNNNnnnnggggggg before MCU. I give Ben great props for improving his Strange accent, improved his modulation from the flat first movie to Infinity War and onward... but Sherlock's first two seasons especially were really well written. I love how sing-song UK accents are compared to what they think of as the "stereotypical US accent." I can do three, two badly.

John Carter was a very underrated movie. I went in with very low expectations, but it turned out to be a pretty good movie.
John Carter was a logically weird idea like Cowboys VS Aliens, but it ended up a pretty good film. Don't get what people have against it. It wasn't groundbreaking, but it was good. Definitely above average.
To be fair, Pratt did a great job as a SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty. That was my “oh shit the guy who fell into the hole in Season 1 of Parks and Rec is an action star” moment.
I know it wasn't "serious" but his acting in Money Ball showed me he had more chops than just comedy.
He must have a thing for SEALs lol. Even his character in Jurassic World is an ex-SEAL I think.

I don't know how many people noticed, but the guy who Reece shoots outside the restaurant when he's with Katie - That role was played by author Jack Carr himself.
I've just finished watching this show today and I gotta say, it's way better than what the critics are saying. One of the best series in the action genre in a while IMO. I absolutely loved it all in all. It was brilliant.
As a combat Veteran, I thought this show was the best thing I've watched in years.
The action in this show is high quality. There is an episode where there’s a mission to some cartel base or something and the gun choreography and set pieces are really nice. Plus the actors look convincing in their roles

Just watching Pratt you can see how natural he is behind the gun and in his combat glide. My guess is he met some Teams guys on Zero Dark Thirty during training and got hooked. Check out Jack Carr interview w/ Rogan. Talks about how a mutual friend of Carr and Pratt got the two of them together for the series. Pratt must spend a ton of time doing gunwork, probably as much if not more than Keanu. His weapon transitions and combat reloads were on point. He even chicken winged his rifle when coming around a short corner. The brass check thing was kinda overplayed, in my experience you shouldn't need to constantly be doing a brass check that often. Taylor Kitsch too, looked good in episode 5. Handled the shotgun kick well, firing 3 rounds with hardly any rise and didn't lose the buttstock out of his shoulder.
Chris Pratt did an amazing job. Some of the best acting I've ever seen the man achieve. Gripping, emotional, and authentic. This show had me from start to finish.

Jack Carr has talked about how much of a fan he is of that old school action hero style from older series like anything by Tom Clancy or even the Magnum P.I. show. I'm pretty sure he said when writing the Terminal List he wanted to bring back that old school style but give it a more modern spin, much of which came from his own experiences as a SEAL, including a run in with NCIS
So True. Sad what the worker's have done with Jane's Bond. In no universe dies James Bond die. Retire, yes, but let a bad guy take him Out...never. I'm sad what they might to do with Indy. (Bad enough there's a time heist twist).
Then he did a poor job because his modern "spin" is simply introducing implausible conspiracy theories and killing off all hope.
@@Andrew_NJ ...that's what old school action was about. No one actually buys into the story, they just show up to see good guys fighting bad guys in cool fights. And the modern spin is that that they take place in modern times, with fighting in Syria and getting intel via hacked cellphones
@@JDayMain In the 80's this would have been a forgettable action mini-series but now because there is literally almost nothing else non-woke it is being praised too highly.
The show Seal Team has them fighting all over the globe too, I was not impressed with the Syria misson in this and felt it was poorly executed. The tech aspect of this show was really weak and you can tell the author doesn't understand the subject.

Your complaints are literally what the drinker was talking about, not everything needs to be some groundbreaking literary masterpiece, sometimes people just want a fun mindless action series
