Flamboyant, charismatic, strange, borderline dangerous...I don't trust people who believe there was a better Dr.
If you said Dr Who - I'm picturing Tom Baker!
"heroes don't learn" - t.b.
Still prefer 6 to 4.
@@The_Lightbearer_2024Colin Baker?
@@stephenroney2366 yeah
Tom Baker was the best special effect in Dr Who.
Listening to him talk, you know the universe is in safe hands
As an American this is the ONLY Dr Who I grew up with. He was simply the best
What an absolute treasure of a human.
Tom was the best. No one since has come close.
Would you care for a jelly baby?
He really was marvelous. I don't think any other doctor could have pulled off that scarf.
Capaldi?
@@chrispy3369 No. Dressed like Pertwee (when he wasn't wearing hoodies) and was dreary and anti-Royal. Disappointing and overrated. And embarrassing.
@user-un9go4qe5i Anti-Royal? How old are you? What does the quality of an actor's performance have to do with their upholding of monarchistic values? Do you think Tom Baker held up royal values?
@@chrispy3369 You totally misunderstand me. I am referring to the anti-Royal speech Capaldi's Doctor made in one of the Zygon episodes. The Doctor would never have said any of that.
All of that anti-Royal clap-trap was very BBC, very Steven Moffat and nothing to do with the Doctor or Doctor Who. I'm not sure of Capaldi's views on it, but the fact that he was willing to spout that rubbish is perhaps an indication. Capaldi was better as Malcolm Tucker. As the Doctor he just made me switch off. Doctor Who has been on a downward trajectory for at least ten years now and it seems that RTD's return has only made it worse. If anything could be worse than Chinball and Shittaker.
Oh I loved watching Tom as Dr Who growing up 😊. Good memories as a family watching TV
Legend!
One of the very best of that kind of old-fashioned, "Thespian", that seemed to dominate that era of British TV... frequently utterly eccentric, feverishly theatrical, and totally committed to throwing their entire being into whatever absolutely ridiculous charade it was all supposed to be: as if it were all a matter of literal Life or Death - often being either actual toffs, or quite dedicated to expressing a certain, resolutely toffish, sensibility......while it's very good all that's changed a bit, it can't be denied that a remarkable breed seemed to come out of the Drama schools of the '50's and '60's...
Sadly, Mr. Baker is looking like every minute of his 90 years, these days...unfortunately, the curtain does always have to come down at some point - but what a performance, Tom. Good God, man: what, a performance..👏🏻
One of my favourite Doctors, if not my favourite. But as a rollercoaster nutter I'll also always think of him as the Voice Of Nemesis!
Simply put: the Doctor *was* Tom Baker.
Tom Baker….gosh he was the best Dr. Brings back such wonderful memories. Thank you Tom
Terror of the Zygons was filmed as the finale of Tom Baker's first season (season 12) but was held-over and broadcast as the opening serial of his second season (season 13) instead.
Now an adult myself... I totally get why my mother was mesmerized by him back in the day, and I am not even on that team!!!
It's that elusive unquantifiable 'C'-word... 'Charm', which is often best delivered silently, simply a sideways glance!
Ironically apparently Rasputin had the same power, and not course Mr Baker played him perfectly. Life imitating art.
I know French woman like him. I can feel when I have been trapped by their tractor-beam, and I know right from the start it is going to be a total nightmare, but what the hell... I would rather spend a moment on the rapids than a lifetime in the doldrums. 😉👍🇬🇧
c = capable
charm is for people who aren't capable, and it's what you are permitted to recognise
I’m not “on that team” either as it were but I too am caught in his tractor beam. I wish I was that cool…
Love that last quote.... I'm concerned with saving the Universe every Saturday....❤
saturdays *rolls eyes* free west papua
Best Doctor who, for me, is growing up. 😊😊😊😊
Such a beautiful voice, he is a treasure.
Love Tom's 4th Doctor. In years to come he said he wasn't acting. I believe it.❤❤ That voice! Those curls! Mad crush on him when I was a teenager. And of course my first Doctor.
I liked Tom Baker along with Jon Pertwee, the two best doctors.
Pat Troughton was damn good, too! 👍
Tom Baker and K9 - Classic
Tom Baker was the Doctor Who I grew up with, and is still the best IMO.
This man will live forever!
Tom IS The Doctor!
Great interview and Tom can talk me to sleep in a good way i love his voice so much he have a great voice
The best Doctor.
'You have a woman's hands!!!!'🤣Bonus points anyone?
Blackadder 2😂
A true LEGEND!
The Doctor I grew up with. Whilst I was already 6 when Tom Baker started as the 4th Doctor and recalled at least some of John Pertwee as the Doctor, Tom Baker just resonated and to this day, the only Doctor who came close was David Tennant with Matt Smith a close 3rd.
WOW what a find!! I'm 55 and I have never seen this. My favourite doctor, in my favourite doctors costume, not that burgundy bore
At the time the series was at it's pinnacle for millions of kids on Saturday evenings. Somehow, life seemed so-much simpler back then. So sad to see what it ultimately ended up becoming a decade later mind you. And I can't comment on the modern reboot in the new Millennium. But it was a role Tom Baker was born to play.
Maybe watch it, some fin actors involved.
@@pressureworks - Nah. I gave up broadcast television in the mid-90s, and I've never looked back.
Modern series doesn't come close to being as good as even the worst of the original run. You're missing nothing trust me.
@@pacmancdi- Good to know mate. Cheers! 👍
Agreed@@pacmancdi . NuWho has always been absolutely dreadful.
he was simply the best
I’m from Littlehampton, which is just along the beach from here. I love to walk from Clymping to Littlehampton along the beach at low tide.
Clymping beach is lovely. Also used as a stand-in location for Australia in the Troughton story The Enemy of the World!
Bloody marvellous. The master!
So familiar South England in the 70s. Cortina Mk III Estate in the background. Our childhood personified. All exteriors for "Terror of The Zygons" were filmed in West Sussex. This segment was in the village of Climping where the North Sea scenes were filmed.
A wonderful humble man
Maybe my favorite Terror of the Zygons Loch Ness monster
Wonderful, joyous stuff!
THE Doctor. The genuine article.
For my generation, there came a change in the 1980s. And it was the Dr Who producer who went out of his way to demonstrate (through a series of repeats) that other actors had done it. Because Tom had become the part. And he cast a LONG shadow over the rest of the series.
Best ever!
The Sean Connery of Dr Who.
the best dr who
hes a fellow scouser to
As was his assistant Elizabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane)
God, I miss Actors like Tom! They are so utterly Bland today, soulless corporate munchkins, surrounded by "People" and breathtakingly boring. Tom was and IS...simply awesome: a total English Eccentric in the best sense of the word. He of course, mixed with the likes of Jeffery Barnard and those old rogues in Soho, none of today's actors would ever dare to be seen in such company lol.
Watching him as pre-teen, Tom was the kind of bloke I wanted to be, but never had the courage, lol.
While My first Doctor was the wonderful Jon Pertwee, I have to say, Tom was the finest Doctor of them all.
Pat Troughton was damn good, too!
alas, he was before my time and I've only seen a few of his episodes.@@stuunitt2947
Tom's great...but let's face it... All the little boy's in us loved Romana I.
lol. The first Romana was unbelievably beautiful, I have to agree.
@@user-id6ld8cr2l
I had the strong memory of her from being a child... On a rewatch on iPlayer recently she was off the charts gorgeous and seemed like a lovely woman. The TARDIS Xmas party with her Tom & K9 on CZcams is a giggle.
he married her in real life too!! Lalla Ward
@@thomasmezei3231
Other Romana.....
Ah yes - the gorgeous Mary Tamm, who sadly passed away in 2012. 😔
sick :)
Tom Baker was the Final Fantasy VII of Doctor Who.
But is he datasofts bruce lee or datasofts zorro?
Shirley,..................there's more ?????
Possibly.
And don't call me Shirley.
Why cut it short?
The Dr.
Wow ...amazing ..and zero agenda ..apart from entetaining kids and adukts alike
I liked Dr who .
This is almost 6 months before Terror of the Zygons aired, so it must have been a tantalising preview. And not the sort of thing you'd ever get nowadays. These days you'd be sued into oblivion for even acknowledging the show's filming, as is the case for so much modern media.
02:18 guessing its running away from Nessie
I stopped watching Doctor Who when Tom stopped playing the Doctor and I've never watched it since!
Tom Baker set the gold standard for the character of the Doctor and I doubt anyone will come close to it. David Tennant and Matt Smith are close, but won't surpass Tom.
A shame all good things come to an end. Thankfully "The Tripods" filled that void but even that ended before it was finished. Good TV though as a kid of the 70's & 80's!
Yes, no time for trifles such as murder. 🤣
Weren't the triffles from Star Trek?
@@steventhomas2856
Those are tribbles, but thanks for making me realize my spelling mistake. *trifle 😁👍
The best doctor EVER. He'll never be equalled. David Tennant however, is a very close second. A shame they squandered him so badly in the so-called 60th anniversary. Doctor Who is pretty much finished now. They cater to the minority now and that's definitely not sustainable.
I think you want to say "They cater to the minorities now." Sad mate, very sad.
No. I specifically wanted to say minority. Try brushing up on your grammar first before you make a fool of yourself. Poor, very poor.
@@leonptr wow....time to let things go mate 😉
Yeah. True
Doctor Who 1963 to 1989, the best!!
NuWho (2005 onwards) has always been absolutely dreadful RTD fanfiction.
Tom was BORN to play the Doctor! The first four Doctors were legendary, with Tom arguably the greatest! New Who is garbage in comparison!
Totally agree.
You might think you're cool, but you'll never be Tom Baker cool.
