These are no longer videogames. They are slot/gambling machines disguising as videogames, preying on the vulnerable. This is disgusting and should be illegal. Remember that these...''games'' ruin lives by siphoning the finances of people who cannot always afford such expenses, and they do so with intensive psychological manipulation. Traditional gambling is regulated, but since the law is falling behind on practices as always, many countries are too slow (or corrupt) to recognize this new method of gambling for what it is. I hope they eventually ban this shit altogether.

I'm not defending Diablo immortal, but people at the other end of the spectrum such as yourself aren't helping gamers either. Let me guess. You don't think any game deserves a single penny from you. All the hours of gaming experience in your entire life should be free of charge to you. No game developer should ever be paid a single dollar. Right? This is the kind of consumer mentality that gave birth to "Free to play" games in the first place. If there is a good game that you've enjoyed for hundreds of hours, of course it's worth $60-$100, maybe even more. You're just cheap or broke and it shows in your mentality. Now you get the kinds of games you deserve. Go play them for "free".

Blizzard would love for nothing more than this game to be not talked about whatsoever. Just completely uncontroversial. The few thousands these guys are spending to demonstrate what a predatory design this game has, is a drop in the bucket to the millions upon millions of dollars that Blizzard is raking in, and the absolute billions per year that the mobile game industry is already making.
But what spending that money allows them to do is start up a public controversy similar to what we had with Battlefront 2, which ultimately lead to Belgium and the Netherlands passing bills that outlaw this kind of monetisation. That's also why Diablo Immortal isn't playable in those countries unless you're on a VPN.
Asmongold ended up spending like $2200 on Diablo Immortal to show us how fucking ridiculous it is. If that money goes towards making more countries aware of this and passing laws like Belgium and the Netherlands did, that shrinks the exploitable market even further and eventually forces this predatory monetisation out of games entirely.

@@korana6308 These types of mobile games started in Asia and from what I can tell are very popular there, no idea where you get the western part from. It's only now that Western companies are getting into it properly with whale games or whatever you want to call them.
I guess Farmville could be considered one of them, but I've never seen anything about it that stands out, seems like a more normal-pointless mobile game, or desktop game turned mobile, I don't know.
Still, some or many of them make more proper mobile games like CoD, Apex Legends and Battlefield.
I'm not sure about the CoD one though, I tried it and more than half the players seemed like bots. Maybe it's just filled with 5 year olds.
There are also PC games ported to mobile like Terraria, that work very similarly to their PC versions.
Whenever I see anyone having spent a lot of money on a mobile game, it's almost always a Chinese dude. Some Japanese and Korean ones sprinkled in IIRC. I assume the other Asian countries either are too poor to gamble like that or too unknown to reach global articles.
Not that I'm often reading about gambling and such, but I saw many mobile games randomly clicking through the play store on PC this one time. Same time I looked up those two games I had ads for, really weird ads eventually. I was about to write that I forgot both of them, but I'm certain one is "Hero Wars". I finally stopped getting it maybe 2 months ago, sometimes it's like CZcams can properly show you ads and other times it gets stuck on this one thing for 2 years. Hero Wars and Hello Fresh have been these long-lasting ads. If I've already seen an ad once, why do I want to see it again? If I was given more variety, I have a higher chance to come across something I would never click on, but maybe would look up 3 years from now.
A lot of people seem to play mobile games, it's uncommon for any given game to have less than 10k reviews, many have over a million. I still don't know what there is to do in these games, they're not necessarily all gambling games, but they all seem to have similarly pointless gameplay to them.
There are also pervert games, where you seem to "collect" women, busty ones mostly and if catering to pedos, little girls too. Azur Lane was one that I saw on my front page for a while, I guess because I never properly used the store, so it didn't know what to update into. It eventually updated and Azur Lane is no longer there, but it took what feels like 3 years for it to do so. I just use the play store to update already installed programs. What am I supposed to do in the play store but update stuff like the bank app and once a year the tax app I guess.
I have a crossword thing or whatever you can call it, but after a few minutes it was giving me the same words in different locations, so I quit. Not much variety there, I would've eventually been able to get through it by just using letters from words in the past. Felt like it was 25 words chosen and placed in different spots. Memorise those 25 words and the game is the same.
Even with PC-like games such as Terraria, I just question..if it's on PC, why not play it there? Why go outside and end up staring at the phone.

okay so i did some research because people are saying the usual gacha games like FGO, GBF, Genshin (as Forbes wrote) are better than Diablo Immortal. That shocked me because that means Diablo Immortal fucked up elsewhere massively. Here's from a mobile gamer perspective (i played on PC and mobile btw) :
    1. Legendary Crests are just like your usual gacha rolls but with extra steps like clearing the rift first. so far it's the usual deal.
    2. Battle Pass on top of that, Honkai Impact did this also but not a deal breaker on the surface until you see the battle pass level up purchase, Even Master Duel did not do it like that and IIRC Honkai Impact 3 does not do Battle Pass upgrade purchase either AKA you gotta grind them by playing
    3. In-game Store has something that irked me. You saw the +800% Extra Value at 0:09. other items also have this +???% Extra Value, why emphasize this unless the target is to trigger spending with these value numbers
    4. Boon of Plenty and Prodigy's Path feels like you have 3 Battle Passes in game. all have paid options
    5. The rates to get a 5/5* gem and the others is not shown directly in game, that is a bad sign there from the get go and Blizz did it first with Overwatch and remember they don't want to reveal the rates at all to the point that the chinese players gets a different MTX scheme instead because China mandated that the rates be shown totally
    6. The design decision to make players can upgrade 2*/5 gem until 5*/5 gem is clearly aiming for a pay to win scheme here, usually if you get a 3* it stays 3* forever but you can maximize for something like a 3* only squad but this is not that kind of game
    7. Farming Eternal Orbs or Legendary Crest is almost impossible when compared to other games where you can hoard your premium currency (like Saint Quartz for FGO) for a rainy day WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY later (read : sudden target banner or limited banner)
    8. Hidden caps, as Forbes wrote there are hidden caps like lower exp or a lower drop rate once you get to a certain point per day. Actively hindering your players everyday? wow........
    Conclusion :
Too many Monetization schemes that is built so deep and game design decisions that supports this type of monetization seems to be the main culprit alongside "Pay to Skip Grind" solution that is offered. No wonder people call Diablo Immortal WAAAAAY worse that the other games, and that is coming from a day 1 player of FGO.

@@GormanVidal indeed in Poe you get a limited amount of stash tabs this will allow you to judge the game for a few days and see if it's worth investing in it. If you play it for years and spent like 10 dollars every 3 months you will be done buying them soon enough. From there out it's just buying cosmetics to give money to the makers to make it a better game if you wish to do so there is no obligation.

It's not really about that, the people who get caught up in this are the ones who are prone to addictive behaviour.
For example, in people with adhd (like me), the brains dopamine regulation works differently, making us very likely to seek out dopamin inducing behaviour more than the average person. And this is exactly the type of person they are aiming at. Someone who will go into a tunnel vision when they really engage with something.
Plus often times it's not grown men/women who fall for this, but kids and teens. At age 16 I had already spent about 2000€ on "free" games that I would never play today.
It's just an immoral and manipulative business practice.
