Brilliant I live about 2 miles from Peter and run a SCTO today.

I built the same thing about 7 years ago and it's been going great. Our maximum batch size is 1.2 kg. This is the only other one I've seen. Good stuff.

Can you put a video of yours up?

Thank you, very informative!! You should do some more videos, please.

Wow! Amazing video! You seem to really have a knack for teaching. Thank you so so much!

This is what I've been wanting to do.
Would you be able to share the dimensions of your "pot"?

That is legit. I have not seen a roaster like this before, and am honestly kind of surprised I haven't! It makes a lot of sense. Seems a lot like the KKTO, but with a drum instead of his agitators.
KK (kosmic koffee over at Home Roasters) has a lot of details about what he has judged to be the best roast chamber size when using a turbo oven, and his KKTO design uses an interior pot that has holes in it to allow chaff to drop down out of the "roast chamber" (see: Amazon '
8 Quart 18/10 Stainless Steel 4 Piece Multi-Cookware Set With Encapsulated Base')
. Just mentioning as it may be useful to you or someone else hoping to make this type of roaster.
I feel like the point where I would be worried this would fail, or where I would have a lot of trouble if I built it, is the entire drive shaft - motor to bolt to socket to rod. Is there some kind of trick to this, or a way to do it that is easy and reliable?
Also, could you link to the drum you used???
I would love to make something like this, it seems like it has so many good features going for it. But I think I am just too much of a DIY noob. My other DIY roasters have taught me over and over that one seemingly small issue with a DIY roaster can make the entire thing borderline useless, so there's not a lot of room for getting things "mostly" right. I have an SCTO and a flour sifter heat gun that have both been plagued by issues and don't work well!

@@DavidPx Thanks. I think I see what you mean re. a real drum -- i.e. it's ideal for agitation purposes, but it has to be mounted w/ a motor and you need to create a roast chamber around it. It definitely makes me curious about using Koffee Kosmo's ideas (pot in pot chamber, w/ insulation, includes chaff mgmt, his thoughts on the best volume to use w/ a turbo oven) with your approach for the drum. I doubt the KKTO sized pots are big enough for anything but a small drum though.
Is this the drum you got? Apologies if the parts questions are annoying. Asking as I try to copy what has been tried and works well.

In case you're interested, I have in my notes that per KK the best roast chamber volume underneath a turbo oven is "no more than 9 lt and no lower than 7 lt"

Thanks for posting the concept I now have a rough prototype using two generic stainless bowls. czcams.com/video/tPzzZy-2_TE/video.html

Again thanks for seeding the idea, my contribution is using two stainless Bowls with 8 holes drilled for chamber fab. czcams.com/video/CtwPW-ha91Y/video.html

I wish I had thought of using bowls... Soo much simpler than the chamber I made.
Thanks for posting your build! I'm happy to have helped.
