    Edit - 22/08/16:
    Seeing how this video has gained some popularity I am thinking of making a running commentary video on this track, if you guys got time please comment on what you think. Also any tutorial suggestions will be welcome, think of it like me riding shotgun in your car :).

    Thank you all so much for the kind words. I've not made a tutorial like this before and I am thrilled its got the amount of views it has. Whats best is that if or whatever you learn on this video by the end you can apply most of it to any other racing games. The only thing you would have to practice on a different game is just the mechanics, and that won't take anytime at all.
    Hakone can be intimidating at first but you guys can tackle it and trust me when you can nail every turn it will look badass! :D
    P.S Happy to help if anyone has any specific questions in regards to the game or racing.

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 8 lety

      Some of the earlier Wangan games maybe available only on PS1 (Japanese Copy) and the layout/design isn't like how it is in arcades.
      You can buy the machines however to get the most of it you would have to get 4 machines linked which is costly (£1500 - £3000+ each). Not to mention if you have the money to get them and you want to play online you would have to pay Namco per month to run per machine. It comes to no surprise that these machines are only in arcades and not privately owned seeing how much it costs to run it. I don't know how much it is per month but you can see sometimes on a machine it will have a yellow box on screen explaining it is close to running out of plays (Usually like a "No banacards banner" sign).
      Thanks a lot dude. The driving was a little rough since I made some errors in a few corners and I had the means to get a solid screen capture but the arcade head office said no even when I had explained to them how I can do it. All music tracks appear on the bottom left for Initial D + Season and Episode number.

      Glad the throttle tip helped out. You know...despite it being the most popular car in the game I had never owned one hahaha. Well, it depends what you use that handling for. Is it for Hakone specifically? Handling in general? Or it blocking?...

      Thats fantastic to hear man! Those turns are very ugly indeed, easy to catch people out. Brake half a second, off the gas and then feather it upon aiming at the apex. If you get 20 metres ahead and nail each corner you can effective pull away from the outrun races :).

    bro, thanks for posting this tutorial !! i learned a lot from this video, by using the white lines as a guide beside the road, basically i used to not to get near the rail as possible, but i'll try to unlearn what i used to do before and try out. and one more thing is the 1.0 and 1.5 (Turbo) i used to decrease acceleration when cornering, but everytime i unaccelerate the control is infrequently, like sometimes fully off the accelerator or on the range before 0.0
    btw thank you soo much for this video, already subscribed, liked. thanks man, cheers and have a good day. hope to see you post more video about WMMT ! :D

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 7 lety

      You're welcome dude, getting close to the guardrail/wall/edge is important when positioning yourself on the road, if you have been driving close to that already then you should adapt quite easily. As for turbo, yeah try first throttling off and on, get a feel for it...then experiment how much to use and how hard down or how much to lift.
      Glad it helped out for you, more videos are being planned :)

    Amazing detail,I consider myself as a rough player,never focusing on throttle control and only on speed and getting to the first.Never knew that the boost gauge can be a indicator for throttle application.Good video. Do one on C1 Inward if you have the time.All the best!

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 7 lety +2

      Thanks a lot man. One idea I had was to demonstrate more on throttle control as a method of steering + calculating how much/little to use so you can nail a corner tight.
      The throttle is invaluable in the game since the game mechanics never lets the car spin out from oversteer. Good practice is to try and navigate a track without braking and rely only on the throttle. It is do-able and it may not be faster but it will give you much sharper control.
      If i manage to get back on the game then I will do requests for tracks

    Thanks you so much dude this helps me a lot specially in Outbound.I never thought that throttle controls would make such a difference at first and now im 8 seconds faster than before.By the way,Does hitting the wall in Inbound too will help or not cuz i accidentally did it and skip some corners a bit faster

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 7 lety

      No worries my friend, I am happy to hear you shaved time off your pb, eight seconds is a massive difference. Inbound has no wall bumps at all, however Outbound has two.
      What makes for an overall fast time is pure momentum on Hakone. Skipping a corner with a wall hit may made that corner pass quicker, but the overall time at the end will be affected because any form of impact will slow the car down. The idea of the two Outbound wall hits is to kill your speed quicker than relying on your brake, and do it at an angle so that you can regain the speed just lost much faster.
      I'll be curious to know your time and what corner you did that on. You can timestamp on my video if you like so I can see.

    • @rzbd
      @rzbd Před 7 lety

      DanteDevilDan im quite a starter in hakone before so my outbound time goes from the bad 2'43 to a 2'35 but normally i go around 2'38s so i consider myself lucky that time because i forced myself to use my ZR1 to the fifth gear in the middle part which usually i sucked.(Around 9:08 ~ 9:20)
      Now the corner im saying maybe isn't correct because i did it accidentally but im pretty sure its 7:59 because i remember the tight left and the red striped road with the 'going up' type of corner.sadly i forgot my Inbound time but the bump really recovers my speed after the corner so i thought that its faster than before,maybe it is but as you said,it could affect the overall time and rhythm i guess.
      Anyway thank you so much for replying and have a nice day

      I suppose it's misleading as you certainly need to look at the meter to see what happens at first. I'm saying when you get the feel of it, you shouldn't look at it. That way you can focus on everything else ☺️

    What did you mean by minor corrections (4:03)? And how and when should you apply these minor corrections when talking about the whole game meaning every map??

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 7 lety +1

      Hey Addicters6
      Essentially yes, its a driving style so it can be used any map. Considering Hakone has more importance on corners you are likely to use it more on this track
      Here is an example: Say you did a perfect turn on Hakone on the first run, but the second run you do the same corner but 3kph too fast in the apex. It would mean you will more than likely hit the wall on the exit. So to avoid this you would ease off the gas and turn away from the wall a little. Thats what I meant by minor corrections, I apologise if it caused some confusion :)
      Give me a shout if you still aren't sure.

    Just recently started playing wangan midnight and looking up a bunch of the races on youtube to see how people take lines. I chose the Silva S15 as my starter car. What advice can you give for a beginner like me?
    Also do you believe that there are cars that are more 'viable' than others? Cause i see alot of people run Fairlady Zs, GT-R, Evo's or Imprezas. Or do you believe any car is viable and is just dependent on the driver?

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 7 lety

      Hello CreativE. Welcome to the game.
      I have a Silvia S15 too, dressed as the Tokyo Drift 'Mona Lisa'. From driving the S15, it slides a little more than you expect (surprising since its a tuner). If you're doing Hakone then your throttle control will matter a lot since the car is prone to sliding a little more than the other cars of its class.
      As for the other cars, there are some that are favourable. I personally stayed away from these until very recently since I wanted to have my own car (AE86). However there are differences: Fairladies vary a little but modern ones slide more, GTR's are good for blocking while the R35 is by far the best straight line speed car in the game, Evo 8 and 9 are favourites for their response in turning making them deadly blockers and RX-7 and RX-8 are best overall Time Attack cars.
      You can make any car whatever way you want it to be but know its weaknesses: like my AE86 is great at turning but its size makes it hard to block with. Let me know if there is anything else u would like to know :)

  • @smkapalawiyah.noufah6537

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 7 lety

      Depends what you mean. The FD is the most balanced car in the game and from what Ive heard the Z has decent speed but little inferior in cornering. Like I said I haven't driven the Z so I'm going on opinion from a friend.

      +TheGTAPhreak Ive never been asked that lol. Yes I do.
      Heel and toe isn't necessary with the mechanics of the game since, lets be honest. its highly unrealistic lol

      +DanteDevilDan i'll give left foot braking a try next time I play! have been braking with my gas foot cos i just liked that slightly more "real" feel even tho yea its unrealistic

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 8 lety

      +TheGTAPhreak Its great technique, but only when the game has a 'simulated' feel rather than 'arcade'... 90% of the game is about high speed turning, no need to heel and toe. Hakone won't need it either but feel free to try and see what works for you :)

  • @Addicters6
    @Addicters6 Před 7 lety +1

    Is it true for the whole game for every map that the less you steer (either on a straightaway or a turn) the less speed you lose?

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes overall. For Time Attack your steering has to be calculated and smooth. Don't steer any more than you need to to keep your speed up. If you do Wangan Westbound or Eastbound this will become more noticeable because the speeds are much higher.

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 6 lety +1

      Magic 740-760hp is best for Hakone. You want to be able to corner with some slide plus have that power on the straights

    • @Desh681
      @Desh681 Před 6 lety +1

      I tried it, and damn, i actually did pretty good!
      I don't know why but 760hp feels drastically different to 740; gonna stick with Balanced as much as i can.
      I'm gonna have to practice using brakes and throttle control. I've been unconsciously half-pressing the accelerator, but i honestly thought that was just me letting go of the accelerator completely; thought the pedals were just a switch, not based on sensitivity.
      Also...what speed (from 3th gear) do i need to get to, to switch to 4th gear?

      Hmm it’s not a recommended style as it limits precision and control of the wheel. It’s not necessary to have a hand on the shift at all times. I mean it’s not impossible and it can be pulled off, but it’s a different way and not worth going out of your way to learn ☺️.

      Truthfully I haven't driven the GT86 yet and my Corvette ZR1 is currently getting dressed up slowly. ZR1 is a good car but I think its a car that is a little misguided at times because the nose is low, I find it quite easy to hit the front of the guardrail because I think at first I have enough room, when actually i don't.
      As for GT86, I haven't been in but I have raced a couple head to head and it looks quite solid on the road. After I dress up my Skyline R34 and Corvette ZR1 I will make a modern version of my AE86 with the GT :)

    • @DanteDevilDan

      Hmmm. Try using it on turns where you usually let off the gas. You may find you can carry over more speed in some turns in the game or as a way to accelerate from an approaching barrier. Hakone has it more frequently so you have plenty of experimenting opportunities. If you're not comfortable with that track then by all means give my first suggestion a go. Its only intimidating because the rest of the tracks on Wangan are mostly high speed turns and are spread out giving you plenty of time to sharpen your turn. But with Hakone it happens so fast your brain at first may struggle to remember where to be at what time and what speed. Just try your best to memorise the turns and brake when needed to, don't try and aim to be quick, take little steps first before sprinting.... before you know it, you will be able to do it in your sleep :)

    • @DanteDevilDan
      @DanteDevilDan  Před 5 lety

      For TA, you have to brake a few times. 720 should be good for battles so you can regain some grip against your rivals but not the best for time attack run as you lose the speed on the straights. Plus, the timing has to change slightly since 760 & 740 rely on sliding round each corner
