I was lucky to see a pelican on the lake on my one visit to Melton Botanical garden. Fantastic place and I really appreciated the thorough labelling of plants and trees.
I don’t live in Australia or South Africa, so these plants were all new to me. It was very interesting to watch and be introduced to these beautiful plants. Thank you for sharing.
WOW! The river red gum trees are stunning. I normally watch on my phone. So glad I used our TV today. For the big screen Also, it made the perfect backdrop for you both. Wonderful video to watch on our cold Ohio day. Thank you so much.
Gee they've done really well to get those WA plants to grow... Reminds me of Maranoa Gardens who had to set up amazing mounds and things to get some of the acacias to grow AND flower. Really, the best thing is to is get to WA and see them - it's an unforgettable experience. Those guys have all the most spectacular species of everything!!
Curiously the micro climate in Melton is very similar to parts of WA & SA so the. species from those regions thrive in the gardens! The flower season in WA is a sight to behold though!
Hello from the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin, USA! I found you recently, and am loving every episode, so entertaining! We now have snow on the ground, zone 4B (we've moved up 1 point on the scale, recently, it seems, due to global warming). I have 2 summer greenhouses. I really enjoyed the show on Oxalis, I grow them here inside in the winter. I took alot of notes on this episode. Figure maybe I can grow one of these indoors, in winter. Thank you for your posts!
Are gums the same as eucalyptus? I hear you call the trees by the water gums. Also, do eucalyptus trees smell like what we outside of Australia know as eucalyptus scent when in flower?
The common name for most Eucalytus in Australia is Gum and the scent is from the leaves. Regards Stephen

I’ve got one, not as big as yours but… I’m living in Sweden, on a chalky mountain south of Vänern, Swedens largest see. Here it flowers in mid august until frost. Nina Ahlberg
Here in the southeast US I bought a podocarpus that is native to New Zealand, a species called Totaro...I like podocarpus but am worried it won't be hardy for me here. The fellow that propagated it says it has survived our winter here in a pot for 3 years ,, but he thinks I should grow it in a container. I'm not a fan of that idea but I will if I must. I do have 2 other podocarpus which I can't recall their species and they do fine planted out, but this Totaro is a first. Can you share any thoughts about it....thanks....mda
Podocarpus totora will coped well with 4 or 5 degrees of frost but as a young tree the foliage will often turn bronze in cold weather. Hope this helps. Regards Stephen
come to find out ,,,, the gurus from the western nurseries say that this plant is not Totaro at all but podocarpus Lawrencii one called "purple king" which is indeed much more hardy than podLocarpus Totaro. Perhaps that explains why it has survived the cold winters here in the SE US.... have you ever heard of Lawrencii "purple king'........???@@thehorti-culturalists
