Euro NCAP Crash & Safety Tests of SEAT Leon 2020

- Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole
- a far-side impact test, the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated by two dummies in the front.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.
Additional tests and checks have been done to ensure that the rating also applies to the SEAT Leon e-Hybrid.

The design of the center airbag is the best I have seen yet in all the 2020 crash test. The Yaris did good, too. In other cars the volume/size of the airbag is just too small. Here the airbag provides great protection for driver and passenger and prevents too much stress on the passenger's neck. Well done.
However I think that just having a center airbag even if it is not the best is enough and reduces a lot the probabilities of death or serious injuries. There are a lot of safe cars without center airbag.

eg the SEAT Tarraco which had been safer than its stablemates too.
So I did a good choice, my 2020 Leon ST FR 1.5 eTSI is not only a beautiful car, but also really safe.

Oh my god ! What a great safety level. Love to Leon as a driver 2017 Leon.
Wonder how the 2017 Leon (also own one) would do in these latest tests. New one is very impressive. I've never felt my AEB although the beep warning and ! On screen has happened and occasionally when nothing there other than odd reflection.
The seats are really good for safety definitely up there being one of the best safety cars

😆 yes, they always confuse the gears at low speeds, you’re trying to merge and it it takes the torque away by changing up, or you want to accelerate smoothly and it gives you powaaah by changing down haha.

The most basic leon money can buy so will not be DSG, the noise you hear is the car stalling where its stopping itself but has no one operating the clutch

I love the seat room . I love the space undercarriage . It’s not that easy to close but maybe it’s just me . I know certain parts have to be down but idk I have trouble all the time. Other then maybe me being the problem it is a really good stroller

You must rise side pole impact speed to 50 km/h also, then maybe that will force manufacturers to improve. At moment, year by year cars are so weak from side, except electric cars.
Hopefully a electric version comes because then I'll definitely consider it.
50 kmh is way to slow. Today’s cars are very fast. The speed should at least 70 kmh.
50 km/h is the speed limit in most European cities so they test cars at this speed

Maybe the level of safety is high, but I have been using it for a month - 7500 km and the level of quality of the electronics something always does not work, it hangs, I have it quite a pure failure, and compared to the 5F, the accountants robbed it a lot

@@WillMorgan89 The design is all made in Spain. Only many parts are taken from the VW group, where they share parts and techniques with eachother.
They will soon start selling in the USA, by the name of CUPRA, which will be a performance version of seat. Cupra stands for Cup Racing, very popular motorsport among Seat cars.

Side protection seems weakened in these generation of cars. It seems like VW AG relies on th airbags way too much! The deformation is on unhealty levels when you consider a collision with a slightly higher speed...
And you're judging that just by watching the video footage? Visible deformation doesn't tell you much of anything on its own.

up to certain speed (60 km/h) there is not much to do on a side impact. the weight of the test vehicle is 1500 kg (3300 lbs), but generally the vehicles on the road exceed 2000 kg (4410 lbs). So this protection works only in the case of a small cized car chrashing on the side.
