How to Step Up to a Deep Lunge! (Without needing to shuffle!)

    Whenever I tried "the Yoga", I used to find it super tricky to just lift my leg into the positions!
    I'd exhale loudly full of desperation and throw my foot forwards, hoping that the Yoga Gods Steve & Timothy would smile upon me and divinely place my foot up beside my hand…. Needless to say... my foot always fell short and I had to resort to the shuffle of shame 😔
    BUT! It turns out I was just lacking a little bit of strength in a few places! And that was easy to work on!

    Damn you, Tom and Jenni! I did SMM last night and suddenly realised I no longer have to drag my feet up to my shoulders for lunges!

    Love this!! When I started Deep Lunge Rotations, no way could I step up with the front leg. This is a great tip...just did 10 set ups each side 💪

    In my park there's cement steps set deep with embedded stout handrails. I started just pressing my toes into flection against the first one to now reaching out a leg onto the edge of the 3rd one! Nice. From there I do many moves one of which is the deep lunge. Almost can get my elbow down to the step! I dream of a full forward split. I do twists and hip hinges and back bends too while there.
    You both are a continuing source of inspiration and guidance! Thank you. (Oh, really, try working those film type resistance bands as you walk. There are modifications for most every move you've shown! Funny thing is that many of the moves start looking like standard traditional dance moves, yoga, tai chi...)
    I'm all in on resistance bands being appraised better! The ability to vector in and adjust tensions, felt force, offers a means to target supportive tissue-junctures, like the joint. More of a 3D approach. Weights are always linear. Even dumbbells. Weight is a subset of lb-force, that always points down! (By definition).
    With resistance bands I get to vector the pulls. I vary the force too. Seems to be working so far! Much healing done.

      Yes SMM breaks things down to one side at a time so it’s the easiest way to make progress with your squat! 😄
