Heya @Gaming Rambles thanks for the shoutout, great video! Super clear, helpful and well explained, and funny!
Re: Defender/Impenetretrable Wall trait, I'd recommend you finish this of after your one man doomstack is nearly complete (It's easier to get enemies to attack you as a single Lord because they think you are weak).
Fun Fact: To my knowledge, Kairos Fateweaver is the only Legendary Lord capable of aquiring his own defeat trait, because he fights a copy of himself in his quest battle.
Trust no one, especially yourself
Lmfao
@@baconsoup8346 that's true, i just didnt want to spoil that part for people who haven't playd that quest battle
@@katiexxii7578 Okoii spoiled it in has last video
So Kairos is the only lord able to get everything defeat Trait in the game in one campaign
This is why they should probably just allow a lord to have unlimited traits. Theres already so many ways for your lords and armies to become completely over powered unstoppable doomstacks that in the long run... does it really matter if you have more than 40 active traits?
@Channel Name id just prefer to have them all active. This is warhammer, power levels should be high.
@@trolltalwar It's also singleplayer. And it takes a lot of time to get that many traits.
How to play total war warhammer 3 optimally:
don't
Just being able to choose them or even just have some priority where inactive traits get booted to fill a slot with an active one would do a lot here.
Frankly if you've defeated that many legends you probably deserve to be unstoppable.
Litetally had no idea these traits are inactive cause once you start one you're locked in. Makes sense though but really frustrating
I had no idea there was a maximum amount of traits a lord could have, If your playing single player I don’t see any reason of not having unlimited traits unless it just breaks the game. Or maybe some kind of trait management like darkest dungeon or a simplified trait system
Quality of life the game needs,
A 1 time skill reset for lords.
Paid trait removal on lords, will prevent sane trait being build for 10 turns onward.
+5 leadership while under siege. Wow. So, while my troops are starving they are at least confident
I assume they mean when leading a defense in a siege battle?
@Helois Gevit yeah but that doesn't make for a funny observational joke
There are also those traits on certain lords that do literally nothing or are supposed to be some kind of secret trait. Removed one of those once from Karl and it removed the word Emperor from him.
There should be something like that you can get all traits, but you can swap them any time for other traits.
I think when Warhammer 3 launched he lacked that trait and was just Karl Franz
@@Ratich Don't forget there is another secret trait that if removed removes his last name...and you only get Karl.
So with all the other playable characters, elector counts, randomly generated names for lords and heroes...just plain Karl doesn't sound so cool.
@@CommanderBohn why in the world are two of his 40 traits taken up by his name
@@CommanderBohn In a world of people of big scary people with epiteths like "Ironhide", "The Witch King", "The Everchosen", and "Suneater", I'd be rather concerned if my enemy was just named "Karl".
@@joeltangjerd2828 I mean if he just introduced himself as Karl, whatever, but if he is notorious, talked about in hushed voices as just Karl. Then sure. The problem is epithets are not something you usually give yourself.
They should just turn those leadership traits into an army wide banner you can equip. If you have scored victory against a race many times before, give the banner to the army which will be fighting that same race.
Funnily enough there was a system like this introduced in Rome 2, but CA just scrapped in for future games.
2 things I’ve always hated about CA’s design choice in this game:
1. Racial defeat traits are stupid
2. For the love of all that is holy LET ME RESPEC CONFEDERATED LEGENDARY LORDS
not so bad in game 3. Warhammer 2 was for worst.
there is a mod for respecing those lords. so many people complain about things like anti player cheats, anti player bias, not being able to respec lords u got from ai who specced them stupidly, but will refuse to mod these out and prefer to suffer... for some reason...
@@meowmeow9326 because they want achievements, maybe? Or because we expect a good game for our money and if we need to mod it just to make it a fun experience then the devs have failed?
I do get qol mods, but stuff like racial defeat traits and not being able to respec confederated lords is so obviously bad that CA's continued refusal to address them is maddening.
@@volodymyrboitchouk hey if u wanna play the game and constantly get frustrated by things u could mod away then go for it i guess. there arent achievements i think, considering everyone asking for them (i havent checked bc idc about them)
There are achievements for steam at least
The problem is the cap. If they didn't have a cap on traits then it wouldn't matter
True
If you can pull off enough escapades to get your legendary Lord, through experience and time, as busted as Archaon starts the game now > then you earned it.
It'd be nice if they just combined the defeat race traits into one. Either by just starting out with a trait that gets the added bonuses as you achieve them or by combining the traits into just +5 leadership once you get like 5 or 10 of the traits.
Could maybe do the same for the LL traits, when you mouse over it just lists the benefits but with a button that gives you a list of the lords you defeated maybe?
Probably never going to happen, but it'd be nice.
☝
THIS.
THIS needs to happen with the +Leadership vs. Traits
BROTHERS,
SISTERS,
PLEASE
LEND the Likes and Response comments > get to near top or pinned , then somebody can send to CA.
Much appriciated topic, well-explained too! Wish there was greater perception on this so CA would do something about it. Hope this video goes a long way towards that. Not a programmer, but I dont understand why they couldnt raise the cap, or straight up remove it altogether. Then this wouldnt be so much of an issue, or no issue at all.
Yeah, I don't understand programming either, but if the modders can't change the cap, I don't think we can expect CA to change it. but I do think CA could take away the lousy leadership traits
@@gamingrambles That alone would be great, yeah.
Would be useful a mechanic to remove useless traits. If the player owns the Shrine of Asuryan he should be able to purge his lords and delete them, at the cost of have to stop for a turn.
This is a very important PSA for any Total Warhammer fan.
Legend's not younger brother with the clutch video upload
Great video. I def didn't think about the inactive/inprogress traits
i have nearly a thousand hours in this game and did not know that inactive traits existed. thank you.
I'm going to pretend I didn't hear any of this, as it would turn min-maxing into a nightmare.
lol yeah that's fair
I miss when Ramblo had a mustache, now I can’t even look at him.
This is goin in the book
I love this, with Enticity gone ive been dying for some obscure mechanic being explained in a short video.
Why is he gone?
Yeah, the greats move on, that’s why I’m still here

@@sonofthebearking3335 thanks mate
Thank you for the explainer 👍
Good Synthetik music during the traits to not get section.
if only there was a mod to remove inactive traits cause it's so counterintuitive
…like the Cpefic’s mod manager?? 😂
3:40: It's also a war crime to excecute your captives though. I'm evil, but I believe in the rule of law, thank you.
Great video ! people had been complaing about the 40 max for ages. Maybe next game 60$ game CA will address the issue XD
After this explanation, there seems to be an easy solution to this. Raise the max trait limit to 55.
yeah, losing your legendary lords army is usually a rap during the parts of the game that matter most: early and mid game, after that, who cares, u can just have him another doom stack waiting by the time returns
Good info, thanks
Thanks, now i know its capped at 40 and i ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. THANK YOU FOR RUINGING MY DAY
I’m doing a thorgrim playthrouhh right now and I just defeated ikit and skragg and it’s knowing that two winds of magic traits are attached to thorgrim is kinda annoying
Big oof
I guess taking a note in my phone of which LL's 'aren't worth' a Melee LL's time, in order to bring an underling backup along to do it, is very worthwhile. Thank you for the additional consideration/warning > inspiration.
Once again, mods really decuple the quality of the game!
reeeeeeeee
Total War games are unplayable without mods for me.
@@GeraltofRivia22 honestly, the only reason I stopped playing with mods, was to help preserve my save files whenever the game updates
@@gamingrambles oh yeah, that was super annoying during Warhammer 2's life cycle. Glad no more updates so I don't have to worry anymore.
They should make it so whenever you get a trait you can choose whether or not you want to keep or just say no and not get it.
That would be pretty cool. I don’t know how that would work for negative traits tho
@@gamingrambles oh well I just meant the traits you get from fighting enough of one enemy and from LL's. Ex. You are able to get traits where a lord/hero doesn't believe in Skaven and are then weaker when they fight them. You can also get negative traits from being in high chaos corruption too long. Those kinds of "natural" traits are fine and can even be reversed. It's the ones that give plus 5 leadership against other factions and other similar traits that you should get a choice on. Been at sea for a while and get an option to have the sea legs trait, that sort of thing. Then you can say yes if you'd like to keep it or no if you don't think it's worth it.
Avoid attacking to avoid the attacking trait to clear up some space for good traits like Malakiths
well, you can't really avoid the attacking triat, I mean, how else will you get the good defeat traits...was this satire
But if you get attacked you have the defensive trait! So you can't defend too!
Simple, really. Play co-op and switch 2nd armies with your friend. Then have them initiate the attack and use your LL to reinforce. In multiplayer campaigns, both players will get the defeat traits, thus you have acquired a trait without attacking or defending?!
But you'll also start the "reinforcing x race" inactive trait.... Oh no
@@ak6427 repeat x50 per faction war
This is a level of minmaxing I wasn't even aware of. Brilliant! What other secret mechanics does this game have?
THANK YOU
Great video
Ayyy, thanks homie
in essence: "just dont do anything with your lord"
That’s Cpecific’s Traits Manager mod for those who didn’t get it.
Imagine being nurgle and getting a reduced plague chance...oh wait.
2:20 I had a campaign where i accidently had vlad defeat gotrek, whose defeat trait gives the lord unbreakable, i got lucky and only had to fight one more manual battle before i faced a fully unbreakble vlad.
lovely
nice i didnt know about that mod im gonna have to get that lol
The defensive since doing the battles with watertreasures always are defenisve is difficult too.
Ooooo, I totally forgot that
Thank you for telling me how to farm it easy 😈😂
It's downright fucking ridiculous how you can get so many inactive traits. Never knew it was hardcoded to 40 wish a mod could solve this.
Really cool video, I had no idea about inactive traits!
But about the last part, I have a neat tip how to avoid all the bad and inactive traits: don't play the game ;P
i domt know if you know the answer, but what would be the best lords to defeat for army buffs? (of i want to do a skarsnik goblin only campaign, or a skaven slaves only one)
I'm literally doing all of this for my Greatsword video. I'm working on those videos now
@@gamingrambles well then, cannot wait to see it!!
i have looked some of them up, they will send you aaalll over the map (but at least your army gets 25% magic resist
@@fonariuz141 35% if you construct the vault of nagash
@@gamingrambles didnt even think of any buildings yet, good one! now i really canmot wait to see all the buffs
Honestly a bandaid fix they could is make the almost impossible to avoid traits not count towards the trait limit, as well as the "victory over x" traits. Punishing the player for just playing the game is kinda dumb.
Dang I already get OCD with trait farming, this just complicates this more :(
Came here to ask if you can get the same defeat train on two of your lords or if as soon as you defeat them one time it gets locked to whoever defeats them?
Naw, an infinite number of lords can get the defeat trait (if multiple lords defeat a legendary lord during the same battle, only the initiating army gets the trait)
Yeah, the Trait Manager mod is a must-have to get rid of weak traits if you hit the cap. It's kinda cheating, but much better than having wasted slots.
I assume for the greatsword video you play volkmar and get franz/huntsman general to defeat you then stack a bunch of carroburg greatsword with volkmars buff + book of nagash + whatever the lord does?
....and here I thought i was being sneaky
@@gamingrambles haha I actually got the exact same idea a week or so ago which is why it came to mind
The 40 traits being hardcoded and not modable is a bit odd. I wonder why that decision was made. It reminds me of Original WoW when creatures could only have like, 10 debuffs do affliction warlocks would regularly not brought to raids because their dots would take up a slot. Then years later, Blizz devs simply changed the number or coding to allow up to 255 debuffs.
I have been to rocking mod managers for a while. Instead of farming enemy LLs, I kill them once then add it to everyone it's useful for, or deactivate it.
I might try a cheat run where I do something like this
Haha, it's super convenient. Resisting the temptation to just dump all the best traits on my people from turn one makes each campaign a real test of willpower.
They need a trait clearing item.
Excuse you but GG's trait Cashing out is insane. Try to put 5 worthless lords with this trait in Castle Drakenhof on top of stacking Necromancers and you will easily hit 100K per turn from a single province. And getting Skrag's trait as someone like Balthasar Gelt equals 8 cast's of your base spell that with mediocre aiming is easy 70K of damage in battle. There are very few traits that are truly useless.
hmm fair point. *scribbles down notes
My man, please bring back the SpongeBob meme video, it was the best video ever

The trait manager mod is a lifesaver for getting rid of all the trash and/or inactive traits.
They should let you get rid of traits, just make it cost gold or something if they really want to avoid spamming it much
Are there any recommended mods on the steam workshop that helps with this?
…like Cpefic’s mod manager?? 😂 I talked about it in the video
@@gamingrambles Yeeeeah thats my bad, commented right before you mentioned it at the end :o

@@MoistyLimes it’s all good man, I’ve done the same thing before
This time in wh3.. what.. when.. where was the other time you made greatswords great again....
I honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm or a new audience member who hasn't seen my older content
This is maddening, why would you hard-code this into the game?!
That being said, I don't know if it will remain that way with mods. It might be 'hard-coded' but that is not exempt from modifications, you just have to mod the actual program instead. Modders are pretty dedicated and might get access to at least portions of the source code.
You'd need to decrypt it first but it isn't impossible, though, CA might go hard on anyone that did, which sucks. In the age of machine learning, though, we might start seeing this happen, hopefully.
I don't get why cap the number of traits you can get
How to play total war warhammer 3 optimally:
don't
Man this is annoying. Why they ever thought 40 as a number would be good enough is beyond me, huge lack of foresight. At the very least CA could remove those shitty useless traits like leadership buffs etc.
There souldn't be a cap on traits tbh
how is something like this hardcoded? that should be moddable at some point right? no way the actually give that much of a shit about "exactly 40 traits"
Bruh, I have no idea, I just heard this from Cpecific and he would know better than me
If it was possible, somebody almost certainly would’ve found a way by now. Been close to a decade since WH1 came out and extremely skilled modders haven’t figured it out for that entire time.
Should just be able to get rid of traits. Either with gold or something else.
that would be a GREAT feature
Still not fixed...
Why are the traita even limited
no link to the mod?
Type in traits. It’s one of the first ones to come up
Dont play the game to not get any bad traits
Or you just ignore this mechanic because it is annoying and breaks immersion.
Too quiet.
Stay crunchy.
What the fuck is this game?! I'm getting some serious buyer's regret, more than half the game's mechanics are invisible and unexplained by the devs in any meaningful way, and now I'm finding out that the game passively PUNISHES you for doing normal stuff that's necessary with your Armies??? This mechanic is a cool idea that has been implemented in the most dogshit way possible, and I'm incredibly upset to learn about this on top of all the other invisible crap that happens in this game.
I haven't seen any balance updates since January. The latest DLC is the most expensive one in the history of the trilogy. And to top it all off, you're screwed on mods unless you have the Steam version. I know there's a sort-of soft-hack that gives you access to the Steam Workshop, but that could be purposely or accidentally patched by the devs at any moment.
I never expected such a new game, based on 20-something years of dev history, to be so disappointing.
I really appreciate the video though, this information is invaluable. I just wish I could get a refund, this game isn't for me.
man I'm sorry to hear that. The game will definitely continue to get patched, but I don't know when or if we can expect CA to address stuff like this in future updates. Honestly don't let this video discourage you. Its REALLY difficult to hit your 40 trait limit cap. You'll probably have a short and maybe even a long campaign victory before then
I really dont get how CA can fuck up so many things. Like, many decisions are totally stupid and nonsensical. You have s great game with a great IP, why taint it with these type of crappy decisions? Minor settlement battles and layout, daemons of chaos super annoying defeat plagues, AI playing just to annoy the player instead of trying to win, victory points in sieges, totally random war declarations, the awful portal campaign, nurgle's settlements mechanics, skaven's 200000 op mechanics, battle maps often just being bad for the player or just downright sucking....
Why
This game is infested with nonsensical and meaningless mechanics
