I became a welder and I had to relearn all kinds of math in order to do my job well. Believe me when I say that plenty of these workers that struggle with math & such do not do well in any industry. Theyre always the first ones laid off, etc. Thats their ability to keep a roof over their head & food in their belly gone. For the uber rich to go to mars to live. An entire infrastructure would need to be in place. They arnt going to build and make things livable there. The 1st people on mars will be engineers and builders. Even if the buildings are ready made. Theres the fact they will need joining together and the many systems designed to make life possible will need turned on tuned and troubleshot. Nothing works as intended to start.

There's a sci-fi short story about just this. Basically, one small tweak in science during the time of sail/black powder sends MOST species down the path to super easy FTL travel. Aliens try to invade planet earth with space ships that still have chamber pots and black powder weapons. They get annhialated and unleash an Earth on the space races that has nuclear weapons and... you know... electricity and indoor plumbing.

A gravity tow satellite would be fool proof. Attaching boosters physically to the asteroid would be highly problematic in a number of different ways. especially if it'snot a solid rock but instead is a loose rubble pile.
Park a satellite a few hundred yards away with ion thrusters and let the asteroid slowly be pulled toward the satellite while it keeps its position with its thrusters.
