This variation's music is by Prince Trubetskoi, from Petipa's 1883 version of the 1881 Viennese ballet "Pygmalion". It is heard here in its original orchestration. The variation was added to Le Corsaire in the early 20th century by Julia Sedova as a variation for Medora in "Le Jardin animé". The choreography has not changed much since Petipa's time - it was notated in the early 20th century during rehearsals of Sedova as Medora - in those days she did a grand jeté instead of a pas de chat devant in the opening enchainment. She landed on the right leg in arabesque fondue. Then with her left leg she performed battement en cloche, raising the leg straight front while performing relevé en pointe on the right leg. Her combination in the middle of the variation was different - instead of performing today's enchainment from downstage left to upstage right, she performed tombé, pas de bourrée, glissade, assemblé in a zigzag pattern 3 times. Finally, she performed the same repeated relevés with developpés to the front just like she does now.
