Trying Every Johnnie Walker Whiskey Blind

  • Some people love Johnnie Walker Whiskey. Others think it can be a bit overrated. We think the only way to know for sure is to rank them all blind. That way, personal bias and marketing is out of it!
Johnnie Walker is probably the best know brand of blended scotch. The Red Label is a solid go-to whisky as a mixer and for cocktails. The Blue Label is at a luxury price, particularly for a blended whisky. And they've got all the whiskies in between. A lot people people have questioned whether Johnnie Walker is worth the price and if the quality is there. But we wanted to cut through all that and try each whiskey blind so the marketing and image wouldn't impact our opinion.
We rank* each Diageo Johnnie Walker Whiskey:
    Johnnie Walker Blue Label
Johnnie Walker Platinum Label (Johnnie Walker 18)
    Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve
    Johnnie Walker Green Label
    Johnnie Walker Green Island Label
    Johnnie Walker Double Black
    Johnnie Walker Black Label
    Johnnie Walker Red Label
*This is obviously not our ranking, you have to watch the video for that. ;)

17:06 I think you’ve mislabeled this; he had the blue label in his right hand the whole time; he preferred red to blue. 😂 at 20:14 he reversed then in his hands and favours blue over red (there is a cut bu I assume he didn’t swap again)

Ok, there is something wrong here. Here 16:31 Blue Labae is in his right hand, and take Real Label in his left hand. After several sipping, he left the glasses in the same order on the table, and next in 17:06, the labels are in the opposite order. I need an explanation.

It goes to show that just like with food where we eat with our eyes, we also drink with our eyes. It’s amazing how tasting scores at my whisky club are impacted by the presentation of the bottles and boxes.

    • @franklampard6316
      @franklampard6316 Před 4 lety

Not so much of situations where an unexpected whisky is a hit. More often it’s where a high-end whisky is tasted blind and is given low scores. Lagavulin 16 is probably the favorite scotch for most of our members, yet when we tasted it blind it received quite low scores and hardly anyone correctly guessed what it was.

To be clear blended whiskies are from multiple distilleries. One company does the blending but the barrels come from other companies with their own distilleries, that are hand selected based on flavor profile, then combined to make a unique "blend". So they taste very distinct, because strictly speaking they are. You could create your own blended whiskey without ever entering a distillery or filling an oak barrel, by simply pouring two types of scotch together you create a "blend".

You might like the Tuath, I have a few friends who prefer them to glencairns. I just find I have to inhale too heavily to get anything off them as the are quite tall, so you end up with a lot of alchol content driving the nose. Maybe I just have weak lungs.
