- It was so nice of the Darkness to come by and give us all these friendly cryptic messages! I can't wait for our future chats with our definitely not evil new friends!
Welcome to my Destiny 2 reaction series! Today we're reacting to Shadowkeep: Season of Arrivals. I am FULLY convinced that everything bad about the Pyramids just comes from Savathun's actions.

So one more thing...
That night that the Traveller healed itself was the day before the release of Beyond Light. I remember my friends and I sat there watching it for hours. We told stories, we reminisced. We had fun. This wasn't something I think Bungie planned, but it was a magical moment for all of us that night to just sit with the Traveller as it healed.
And as a beautiful aside, one of my Clanmates in Australia spent part of her workday logged in with us that day. She would later tell me that it was mostly to spend time with me.
We've been married nearly two years now. :)
That is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing. (And also, congrats! 🎉)
Gaming allows for such incredible shared experiences, and it's why I decided to pursue content creation in the first place. ❤
The rulers are the Hive are Oryx, Savathun and Xivu Arath who are siblings. Crota was Oryx's son.
You may sometimes see Oryx referred to as the Taken King and sometimes see a reference to three "sisters." Oryx was born as Aurash who was female but later took the "King Morph" and became male.
Crota also had his own brood he grew powerful enough to do so
for the shaxx song bit, there was like heavy speculation that shaxx was currupted by savathun way back and thats why he sang the moon cheese song
9:40 "her little limp, dude!"
From one of the lore entries this season:
"I ache from the hike. Ikora says I am full of hairline fractures and deep muscle trauma. I never noticed until other pains had healed. The illusions of recovery: one pain obscures another."
Eris was a Guardian for a long time, injured and killed over and over and repeatedly stitched back together by her Ghost. When she lost her Light, her body had a lot of traumatic physical history to deal with - but she barely even noticed until after she began to heal from her emotional trauma in Shadowkeep.
Savathun was the queen of the hive by succession, not marriage
Xol's Influence: After completing the Warmind campaign, there was a secret exotic mission that could be accessed on Io with many of the enemies featuring taken versions of bosses that we had fought in Destiny 1. The reward for that mission was Whisper of the Worm, a reincarnation of the legendary and exotic weapon Black Spindle and Black Hammer from Destiny 1. The Hive operate on the basis of the sword logic which is basically the right to exist is reserved for those who prove they can exist. Which is another way of saying only the strong survive. By engaging in conflict with the worm God, we have participated in the sword logic ritual thereby allowing Xol to bind himself and his will to us via the gun, allowing him to continuously enact the sword logic upon the universe, using the guardian as a proxy. That is what Nokris is referencing.
Oh, well, that's a bit unfortunate ain't it 😅
@@terabellum (pssst, you will learn a lot more about this stuff if you.... ya know.... watch Dynasty... >.>)
The melody of shaxx's song is the main leitmotif for Shadowkeep. Throughout the year of the DLC, Savathun's Song would play every time you launch Destiny 2. That song was basically forced into every players' ears for a whole year until it festered in our brains lol
Yeah it's safe to say Savathun has been the main antagonist ever since Forsaken. She worked with Riven to curse the dreaming city and she manipulated the hive on the moon in Shadowkeep. One thing not touched on is that when the darkness took Mercury,Titan,Mars and io(yes those planets literally disappeared from the system) Calus' ship the leviathan also disappeared
I thought the Leviathan left because Calus sought out who was going to bring the next collapse of humanity and essentially be their paw so they could save themselves.
NOOOO, I NEED MORE CALUS CONTENT 😭
34:08 "where the Light takes, the Darkness gives" is a really fascinating statement, considering up to this point most of what we knew about the Darkness came from the Books of Sorrow, where it was repeatedly emphasized that the _Light_ gives and the _Darkness_ takes. According to the Hive, this dynamic was fundamental to Oryx's communion with the Deep where he learned the ability to create the Taken.
Darkness's Gift: basically what the darkness gifted us was the exotic weapon known as ruinous effigy. The only notable thing I can recall from the lore/quest is that the gun literally sucks the light out of the user if they are guardian and uses it to fuel the ammo system. Every person that tested the gun could feel the effects of it instantly, however when the guardian wielded it, banshee 44 noted there was little to no reaction and wasn't even sure if the guardian even noticed what was happening. Essentially lending credence to the guardian as being the most powerful in existence, by virtue of having access to so much light that the weapon seem to have no effect.
8:55 Yes, the seed Osiris got was used to plant this Tree of Silver Wings. There is even a medal with Osiris' logo next to it
Shaxx's song is a canonical "chant" and can be heard during shadowkeep multiple times as well as later so keep an eye out for it because it shows savathuns involvement
Terra: Eris is definitely gonna betray us
Also Terra: i don't buy that there's a traitor 😂
HAHAHA SHHHH
Fates of Those left behind (only in lore entries at this point in the game): Sloane-as stated in her dialogue. The pyramid ships came down and she started finding it with the Golden age tech she managed to salvage. Asher-he ventured into the Pyramidion, and the vex freely allowed him entry. When he reached the shores of the radiolarian lake (which never appeared in game on our strike runs of the Pyramidion) it was located on both the ground and the ceiling. And with his vex arm he pulled down the lake in its entirety crashing it onto himself. Brother Vance-he managed to seal the infinite forest in time, but not before a doppelganger got through much like the one we saw in shadowkeep, except this one had eyesight. It tried to engage in dialogue with brother Vance, but conflict arose, and Vance got the upper hand when he gouged out its eyes with his thumbs.
The lorebooks of this season man
Also Xôl is very much not dead. We made him into a gun and he agreed
Season of Arrivals was an absolute *banger* of a season and probably one of the highlights for me in the entire saga of Destiny. The tension is almost palpable throughout the story and I think it does a really good job saying farewell to the Year 1 locations.
The story does continue in further detail in a few different lore books, if you’re up for some reading. ‘The Singular Exegete’ has Eris’ notes on every message from the darkness that she receives. ‘Duress and Egress’ follows the perspectives of the Year 1 location vendors during the Evacuation quest. Also a good read. Tugs at the heartstrings.
From what I could tell, that compilation doesn’t include much from the main seasonal event, a public event called Contact. It’s not really important to the plot but it does have a lot of great Eris-Drifter banter, and was where a lot of the community started to ship the two-myself included. (The channel ‘A Villainous Toaster’ has a good compilation of dialogue).
Glad you enjoyed the season and I have a feeling you’ll enjoy what comes next a lot as well. If you haven’t started Beyond Light yet, I’d recommend checking out the reveal trailer before you jump into the campaign.
50:40 yes, there's some explanations but you can think of being paracausal as being magical. It's simpler that way
This is a fantastic simplification of what paracausal means. Thank you!
more reactions we eating good today
edit: nokris the character you were talking about at the start of the video is one of the sons of oryx, brother of crota, we killed him in a strike in the warmind expansion but he is a necromancer so he canonly respawns (please correct me if I'm wrong my mokris knowledge may be out of date)
also do listen to the songs yeah 1:95
oryx savathun and xivu are the 3 major hive gods and siblings i don't think we've ever gotten a name for the brood mothers that mothered their prodginy though
The reaction at 36:50 was exactly what I expected LOL
I highly recommend watching/reacting to the compilation of public event dialogue for this particular season as well. Contains quite flavorful character interactions and development that the writers still continue to build upon.
Same can be said about reading some of the *item* lore entries. For example the Ancient Apocalypse set, which you can preview in the gambit rewards, has Drifter lore that is arguably still relevant and might provide context for some character moments in future seasons.
That being said, while the item lore entries add a bit of context for some of the season stories, they're also not terribly crucial to the overarching expansion/campaign plot so passing on it is understandable.
The whole season is about the pyramid ships trying to estabilish a Connection with us, while Savathun constantly creates intereferences, using Nokris, son of her brother Orix. Infac, the mission in the court of Savathun is called "interference", every time we got brought there, it was savathun trying to block our communications with the ships. At this point in time Eris thought the pyramids were only trying to estabilish a connection, but later we'll see that this is not the case actually. About Savathun, i don't want to spoil anything, but Savathun is probably the most interesting enemy of the entire saga, we start to see a bit of her in this season and she will basically carry the entire game for a while, so it is important to understand her. She's the queen of deception, she feeds on out ignorance, on us mentioning her or not knowing her plans. She's such an interesting character, more than Orix for sure, and more than the darkness itself for me.
Savathun was actually first referenced in the Red War. She’s been behind stuff since the beginning of Destiny 2
I was there, for the reformation of the Traveller. It was a cool experience.
Also, never knew that hold-clicking on a video speeds it up before now. Thanks for that!
My advice is using that newfound speed up skill to skip any time I read the walls of text! 😅
Im glad you saw a bunch of our comments on that tune back in season of dawn! Of course, this isn't to say that you shouldn't still keep it in mind going forward ;)
I'm glad you enjoyed this season story as much as I did, and hope you enjoy experiencing the Beyond Light story that took place immediately after the traveler healed! If you have any obscure questions that need answering be sure to leave them in the description for us!
12:10 comparing the Traveler and the Pyramid ships birthed a lot of fascinating speculation among the lore community. A sphere is the most complex convex solid (in terms of the number of faces and vertices) that exists, while a triangular prism/4-sided pyramid is the simplest. This was even reflected for a while in in-game pick-ups; "motes of light" which enhanced Light-based abilities were spherical, while "motes of dark" which were an invention of the Drifter and only existed in Gambit - the main reason the Vanguard were so wary of him and of Gambit - were triangular prisms. (That changed over time though as we learned more about Light and Darkness; triangular "motes of light" show up in the Prophecy dungeon, and the spherical motes were renamed "orbs of power" and could empower both Light and Darkness.)
It's also reminiscent of the "sword logic"/"bomb logic" comparison that I believe other commenters have already described. Sword logic tries to cut everything down to its simplest form; whatever can't be cut away is all that deserves to survive. You can't cut a side off a triangular prism to make a simpler shape (and it's even shaped sort of like a sword). Meanwhile bomb logic says that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and complexity overwhelms simplicity.
Xol has influence over us because his not truly dead. After warmind dlc, there was a secret mission where you discover xol's essence concentrated in a sniper called whisper of the worms (you can read the lore tab, not a spoiler at this point). His logic was that if he becomes an instrument of death in your hand, then the kills are attributed to him and through that he lives eternally. Oryx did something similar with a scout rifle, I think called touch of malice.
Oryx, Savathun and Xivu arath are the 3 hive gods at the top, superseded only by the the Darkness, the pyramids and the worm gods.
I do recommend watching some lore videos and recaps from byf up until shadowkeep to fully understand, a lot of your questions are unfortunately not answered even in game. You can look at the seasonal story and lore recap from him or myelin too, if those exists.
Did anyone else catch the Drifter mention Prismatic.
I'm loving this, also I can't wait to see you try some of the other content from this game with friends, like dungeons and such, also remember the warning about a carnivore disguising itself to catch it's prey, it will be important !
Okay, someone probably mentioned this already, but, yes. The light and dark are paracausal.
The Ahamkara are also paracausal.
The worms are...more complicated than that. They're more like a medium, teaching the hive about the darkness and giving them power.
Also, Yes, Savathun is called the "Taken Queen" for a while because she held control over the taken after Oryx's death, but Oryx, Savathun and Xivu Arath were originally siblings. Three sisters. They then met the worms and through the darkness Oryx became what he is.
This was all kind of old Lore that used to be more tucked away in lore books and stuff so you probably wouldn't have picked that up originally.
So Savathun and Oryx were in fact, NOT an old married couple. 😂
@@terabellumno they are siblings lol they killed each other millions of times lol they are the original powerful big 3
@Terrabellum juat wait until you get fully caught up. Oh boy. And lmao cant wait ti see the reaction to season of the haunted 😂😂 get ready for an emotional experience
You should read the lore book Unveiling after finishing Season of Arrivals. It's probably my favorite lore book, and it's the messages you get from the darkness during this season. And the way you love the messages from the darkness will just be expanded on if you read it!
Also, the Prophecy dungeon is super fun, it would be cool to see you do it!
Yes savathun and nokris made a pact they gave eacg other powers she has necromancy from him now nokris cannot die he can res himself and he’s probably a gaurdian he’s somewhere out there most likely in her new court
Keep in mind that the Eris said that the pyramids are *of* the Darkness, in the same way that the Traveler and Guardians are of the Light. We do not know if the pyramids (or the Traveler, even, in relation to the Light) are true agents of Darkness, or independent wielders with their own agenda.
So Savathune is the with queen but she and oryx are siblings. The have one more sibling names Xivu Arath. They are hive and once hive sisters. Yes Sisters unitl. . . You will disover more as you o through seasons. Crota is Oryx's son and would be savathunes nephew so to speak.
my Disciple. We have been watching your destiny journey. And we are intrigued to face you in the final shape..... Little light
My favorite season!!!
kinda sad they didnt record/show any of season activity
or a bit more of exotic weapon quest
Can’t wait to see your reaction to the beyond light dlc father this 👍
Keep in mind 30:30.
Oh damn I never picked up on that
UH OH. 💀
This is my favorite season.
it is a shame that youtube is the only way to catch up on removed paid content now
Reading is where the best lore is at, a fact that many in the destiny community still resent lmao. Again why Byf is so popular
I struggle a lot with reading due to aphantasia, but I have been genuinely enjoying reading the records prior to a season!
I think this would be an excellent point in your journey to stop with the official content for a moment, and see if you can get permission to do a reaction to My Name Is Byf's "Dynasty" video. Should be fine without monetization but maybe you can get permission? Getting a proper lore dump on the FULL history of the Hive would be very good for you at this time. I say this because you're still a little unclear on the family structure and once you know The Book of Sorrows, which is best experienced as the fan-made video Dynasty, will make it all very clear to you.
In case you don't though, just know that the Hive is ruled by three siblings; Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath. Crota was the elder son of Oryx, and it was his death on our moon that caused Oryx to invade, seeking revenge.
@Terrabellum - Seriously, if you have time even without doing a reaction video, watch Dynasty. It will explain everything.
I'm holding off on Byf content because I like to piece stories together on my own, even if I'm way off in my understanding.
(Besides, cute commenters usually fill me in on major confusions post-season anyway! ❤)
@terabellum So... so... I hear what you're saying. Here's my pitch. MOST Byf content, absolutely, skip that. But Dynasty is something special. It's a huge mega project made by a bunch of talented people, it's beautifully animated, and it only covers lore that was released way back in The Taken King. If you were playing at the time, you would already know this stuff, that's why I am so strongly recommending it. You really are missing part of the story, which is contained within 50 lore pages called The Book of Sorrows. But rather than read through all that stuff, Dynasty presents those 50 cards in a glorious fan-made super project.
Last time I'll recommend, but I can't recommend more highly for someone at your stage of the story. Cheers buddy.
For nexts videos you can add subs from the video itselfs .
