"The Great Machine" is the Traveller. When Eramis mentions that they built "idols in it's image" she's referring to the round-boi-ness of the Servitors.
fun fact: stasis is not an elemental power like the light subclasses (solar, arc and void), it's a power of control, as the voices said, you don't create ice, you halt movement on a subatomic level and and create crystals by aligning atoms
very important distinction: the eliksini/fallen weren't lightbearers, humans are the first to gain the ability to wield light from the traveler, the fallen just had a golden age of their own when the traveler was on their home world, until it got chased away by the black fleet
Video ended at the start of the Lament exotic quest. Not only does the quest reward one of the best swords in the game, you'll get to experience in-game cutscenes that explores Elizabeth's story, as well as the Brays. The ultimate goal of the Vex is eternal survival, and to this end they work to convert the universe into a pattern that ensures it. They machinoform worlds, eliminate obstacles, and some factions of the Vex, like the Sol Divisive, have taken to communing with and worshipping the Darkness, seeing that as their best chance of survival. They can calculate cause and effect with perfect accuracy, and so it's virtually impossible for anyone who isn't wielding Light or the Darkness to stop them. However, Light and Darkness are both paracausal (meaning, they don't obey the laws of cause and effect) forces. Vex can't simulate paracausality, which is why they can't predict Guardians' actions.
Just so you know, the Fallen/Eliksni, never had Guardians. But they did have a Golden Age like humanity did because of the Traveler. The Traveler has blessed many civilizations with its presence helping them achieve greatness only for it to flee when the Darkness came calling. For some reason when the Darkness came for Humanity, the Traveler stood its ground. So the Fallen have a lot of resentment and anger towards their Great Machine, wondering why it abandoned them but stayed for us and gave us Ghosts and Guardians. Look forward to the rest of your journey through the remaining seasons/expansions.

There are several stories in destiny that are never explicitly said in game as they just sort of become common knowledge over time through the lore. The origins of the eliksni is one of them as we have known about their history with the traveller since destiny 1. The origins of the Hive is another which is why I highly recommend either reading or watching about it before witch queen as there are reveals that really pay off with that information.
@@sammety1I’d actually recommend watching it before season of the lost imo, unless Byf decided to put spoilers for lost and witch queen in it I believe
The fallen never had the light, but they were empowered in some way by the traveler. The Traveler giving us powers (and not running away) is something new. Taken King lore mentions Oryx chasing the traveler from planet to planet, killing the civilizations it chose. The Traveler would subsequently abandon that planet and its people. Shadowkeep/Beyond Light basically say the black fleet has been chasing the traveler even before Oryx, possibly since the beginning of the universe
Also, a little backstory on the Fallen, their species is called eliksni. They come from a planet called Riis, which was also blessed by the Traveler, which they called "The Great Machine." However, the Traveler abandoned them when the Darkness showed up on Riis's doorstep. This event is called "The Whirlwind" by the eliksni, and made their planet uninhabitable. As a result, they chased it across the universe, showing up here in the Sol system. Riis's atmosphere was made up of a substance called "Ether", which the eliksni need to survive. Ether also affects how large eliksni grow, Captains and Kells are so large because they get more ether than their underlings, whereas lowly Dregs are just barely surviving on bare minimum ether rations.
One more thing, please ADS with the bow, please. I think you hit two precisions the entire video, and missed about 70% of your arrows. Hipfire is bad, ADS good
There's a lorebook in game (i dont remember how to earn the pages for it) that tells multiple "what-if" stories that gives Dark stories. What happens if Eris became evil through Darkness, what happens if Zavala truly lost hope, etc. I think they're stories of what the Exo Stranger saw or scenarios
A few things: When it says the Stranger time travels, it means she's lived through countless timelines where our enemies have won, trying to find a timeline where she can help humanity come out on top. In one of them, which she shares with us in a lore book, Eris Morn became the new witch queen corrupted by hive magics, and Ana Bray got corrupted by Stasis which means she had to kill her own sister... and she eludes to the fact that she's had to do that many many times. Eris and Drifter get closer in the next seasons. It's mostly in the background, but it's cute :) The big ball after the Praksis fight houses the mindscapes of pretty much every single exo ever made, including the version of Cayde-6 that existed before the collapse. I would HIGHLY recommend playing through the post-campaign stuff for Beyond Light yourself when you get the chance, there's a lot of stuff that might be missed in a video recap.
Much like Shadowkeep, there is some story after this story. You'll probably want to record yourself doing the Lament Exotic Sword quest, which explores the "secrets of Europa" as Elsie hinted at the very end of that last interaction, which was the cinematic that played after the Deep Stone Crypt raid had been completed by Guardians for the first time. There's a LOT more story to explore and more Stasis powers for you to lay claim to, so don't rush away from Europa just yet!
Variks and Eramis are two of the oldest living Eliksni left, as far as we know they’re the only two left that were born on their home planet Riis. Eramis was there when the Traveler, the Great Machine, abandoned them and she grew to hate it when she chased after it only to find it had chosen a new race (Humanity). In her desperation and fear she sent her wife, Athrys, and their many children to another star system to keep them safe while she stayed to fight us. She still has nightmares of Athrys waking up in her pod and crying out for the Great Machine. She had been in the Prison of Elders for many years, but the day of Cayde’s death changed things. The Prison Break wasn’t initiated by Uldren alone, Variks let them get out freeing Eramis in the process. It’s why he wasn’t there to help with containment. He hoped she would stop before things got out of hand but she ended up finding Europa, the Deep Stone Crypt, and Stasis.
Eramis was originally a member of the House of Dancers, which would later become the House of Devils, where she was a decorated warrior of the house famed for her strength and leadership. Her wife on the other hand was an architect and artisan, presumably from the House of Gentle Weavers who would later become the Wolves, and was also fairly famous.
So, to discuss the Light. Many civilizations were blessed by the Light. However, Guardians are the first of their kind. The first beings who could actually wield the Traveler’s power. Even during Humanity’s “Golden Age”, there were no Lightbearers. Same with the Precursors and the Eliskni.
Destiny's cutscenes are always excellent storytelling, but knowing the lore behind them gives them ten times more weight. 8:43 in the brutal survivalist culture of the Eliksni (aka "Fallen", though we know by now that's more or less a slur), docking (amputating arms) was a common practice. Eliksni could be docked as punishment, but more commonly it was used as ritual humiliation when entering (or being conscripted into) a new Baron or Kell's service. Enemies defeated in battle are always docked. Docked Eliksni are called Dregs (which is why Dregs are the only two-armed Eliksni you encounter in the wild). Docked arms eventually regrow, but while waiting for that to happen they can be replaced with bionic prosthetics - if the Eliksni is allowed to rise above Dreg status. The thing is, it's traditionally the _lower_ arms that are docked, except in extreme cases where all four are docked at once (which is usually part of a slow death sentence that includes banishment or cutting off access to ether). Before the prison break, Eramis knew that Variks had been docked once. At one point she threatened to dock him "a second time", and his eyes harden. Now in this scene we discover he has already _been_ docked a second time, and had managed to keep that shameful fact secret. Eramis is irritated at being unable to carry out her threat, but also pleased to learn that his social status is even more pretentious (in her eyes) than she thought. 14:45 the Eliksni deify machines, and Servitors are among the most advanced of their machinery, sometimes to the point of being sentient or nearly so (like Sepiks Prime). They are also the means of production of the ether the Eliksni need for survival. A common Eliksni practice when capturing/subjugating a house of enemies or rebels was to destroy their Servitors, which in human terms would be roughly equivalent to bulldozing their temples and salting their farms. For Eramis to destroy her own house's Servitor is unheard of. There is no more powerful statement she could make to emphasize the rejection of tradition.
Also, Variks was the one who allowed the prison break at the Prison of Elders to happen. He was complicit in the freedom of the Scorn Barons, who then murdered Cayde-6. Variks wasn't directly involved, but he did allow it to happen.
Random background-lore fact: Eramis has a wife named Athrys, who was an artist of some renown to the Eliksni. Before the events of Beyond Light, Eramis sent Athrys and their kids into deep space to keep them safe.

There has been a fallen Exo. Atracks-1. In the Deep Stone Cript she successfully made herself an exo and tried to erase us off the orbital platform. As Eliksni see machines as gods, Atracks-1 could have become a Kell of Kells just by existing, which is already a scary thought. Not only could she become immortal by not aging, she could have made backups to use other bodies. Imagine an immortal machine god in the eyes of the Eliksni and now imagine how easy she could have united all the Eliksni again to destroy us. While Taniks could have nuked Europa (which would be bad, no doubt) and maybe kill another few guardians, he couldn't have that same level of influence since he despised the Eliksni house structure. (Taniks has no house) So Atracks could have been a much bigger threat than Taniks, so it's a good thing she got dealt with first Also the Traveler blessed the Eliksni with a golden age, but never the actual Light power we have. I did see you while you where playing. I killed the big sevitor I’m sorry.
I can't believe you've done this. 🤣
No the fallen were never gifted the light. We remain the only ones (other than the lucent hive) to have the light. The travaller mearely blessed and settled on some worlds. Like io, reese and the witnesses home world to name a few. It stayed with us. It fought back with us. What makes us so special no clue. But we were the first to gain light. The Eliksni never did
You should play the deep stone crypt raid
It's not a ghost, it's a pouka 👀
the "ghost" Elsi has is an pouka not realy an ghost =) you will learn about poukas later on
You lose lot by reacting to only cutscenes or in game stuff but not the lore. But it is what it is, I guess...
Yeah... I've been doing my best to absorb outside information, but these next 8 weeks are gonna go FAST before the release of Final Shape!
@@terabellum Yeah, I don't envy you.
Bro you are missing so much stopping there. You need to at least get the lament.
Oh and the "Ghost" floating around the Exo Stranger is not actually a ghost. It's a species native to Neptune. They are called Pouka.
Please please tell me I can have a Pouka. 😢 (Or maybe don't, if it is a cool reveal haha)
@@terabellum you'll see more Pouka in the Lightfall campaign. But yeah, the community was very befuddled by that little floating fish ever since Beyond Light.
